View Full Version : If this guy can play Sam LB ... why not Jarvis Moss?

Kiwanuka is the same height - and 15 pounds heavier than Jarvis Moss:

When I watched Moss on video, he reminded me of Demarcus Ware. Maybe consider a hybrid 4-3 Sam rushing LB - at least to start?

Moss has enough athletic ability to play some linebacker. That doesn't mean denver will try it but I think he could do it. He has quick hips, long arms, runs well and is agile.

Probably because the Broncos don't have Strahan and Umenyiora already in place at DE. They're putting Kiwanuka there because they want to get him on the field somehow.

Yes ... those are much better DEs.

But Elvis is fixed at DE now, and Lang and Ekuban are both above average ... so why not get creative and try to replicate a Merriman/Ware type 3-4 OLB pass-rush demon? If the Giants can do it in a 4-3, maybe Bates can get creative with it. We need a Sam after all, don't we?

I really think Broncos will leave Moss at Dend.

You're right of course .... just trying to think outside the box.

I don't see Moss doing this at all. He's not built for power like a linebadker and he got only 13 games starting experience in college at DE, meaning he'll have a steep enough learning curve as it is. Asking him now to lean a completely different position doesn't make sense. Also, his ability to succeed is completely related to pure quickness and speed moving forward to beat much slower OT's off the ball and get to the QB. Moss is extremely weak in the upper body. As a LB he'd have to take on blocks from tight ends, FB's and tackles while trying to read the flow of the play, seek out the runner and pursue to the ball, not to mention coverage responsibilities. Who knows if he can do any of that mentally yet, and his lack of upper body strength would be detrimental to him at LB much more than it is when he's simply trying to run around somebody. I think he should just concentrate on getting bigger and stronger and get as many reps as possible in practice and whatever time he gets on the field. Hopefully he'll at least provide the pass rush we need from the right side allowing Elvis to move over on 3rd downs to the other side and give us two solid rush ends on obvious passing downs.

I think we're just stuck with only two good LB's this year in all probability.

Which ones are those? Did we sign some guys I didn't hear about? Because, our good linebacker was just released.

Point taken...I guess I should say two "starting" linebackers...though I think DJ has potential at MLB...Gold?... I'm not so convinced he'll be any different in this scheme.

Yeah, except for the whole having talent, athleticism, and football instincts thing.

Moss will be a situational rush end for us this year and contribute on our special teams (kick blocking). He'll add weight and within a year or two will step up from that situational role into being a full time starter weighing around 265-270.

We did the same thing with Reggie Hayward without good line coaches and a good pass rush scheme. Moss has twice the talent of Hayward. He'll be a gamer.

Overall I'm expecting our DL to start next year aligned as Crowder, Warren, Thomas/McKinley, and Ekuban for first and second downs, then Crowder and Ekuban come out on 2nd and long or 3rd downs when Moss and Dumervil take over.

We're going to be bigger and more talented in either case, but it'll take a little while for us to get these young guys fully up to speed.

Bingo! Give that man a ceegar. Besides, Moss doesn't have the most impressive tackling stats I've ever seen.
