Great Draft picks!

I’m very pleased with the Broncos draft picks. To the average fan I guess taking Defensive Lineman and Offensive Lineman isn’t as exciting as picking QB’s, RB’s or WR’s. The biggest need we had was on the DL and Shanahan played it smart this year and went for position need. Some have criticized Shanahan for trading up to make picks but I’m thankful he did. Moss, Crowder and Thomas should have an immediate impact. I said before the draft he should pick DL and then go for OL since we lack depth there with the lost of Foster. Harris could play either Tackle or Guard a big bonus since we need big bodies for the running game and pass protection.

The concerns about Thomas’s drug use and character are a concern but taking him in the 4th was not that big of a gamble. Had he not got into trouble he was projected to go in the first round. Many may forget but Warren Sapp had the same issues coming out of Miami and he ended up being a great player for the Bucs. If he fly’s right he’s the kind of player who could have as much impact or possibly greater than both Moss and Crowder combined. Guess we’ll have to see what happens in camp and during preseason. Replacing Al Wilson isn’t going to be an easy task but hopefully with the picks the Broncos made today the pass rush and line play will help out whoever we plug into to replace him.

I’m convinced we got much better as a team on D today. I can’t wait for camp to start and see what all 4 can bring to the Broncos.

Calvin Johnson may or may not come in like a Lion.

I’m so glad the deal fell through and that we didn’t break the bank for Calvin Johnson. The hype around this guy to me may be overblown. If you look at the history of WR’s taken in the first round few turn out to big impact players, especially right away. Johnson will be facing stiffer opposition from DB’s who are faster and stronger than he faced at Georgia Tech. He looks to be a stud but the Broncos were smart not to trade away the future for 1 player when the help they really needed was on Defense first.

Brady Quinn a franchise QB?

The hype around him was as bad as Johnson and maybe less deserved. Quinn has the tools, came from a good school, which played big time opponents and played in a system ideal for the Pro game. Still the jury is out on Quinn, maybe he makes it in Cleveland maybe not, and to me he’s no lock at this point. Do I think the Dolphins made a mistake by not taking him? Yes. Anyone who thinks Green will carry the Dolphins to a playoff berth let alone a winning season is out of their mind.

JaMarcus Russell, a sheer matter of Survival …

Too bad he went to the Raiders. The Raiders have so many problems at almost every position (most important on the OL) that if can survive the meat grinder for 2 or 3 years maybe he can help the Raiders win. As long as Al Davis is the Owner, General Manager and behind the scenes Head Coach for the Raiders don’t look for any immediate miracles from this kid. He’s good but he’s not Superman.
