View Full Version : Did the Broncos just miss out on the trade of a lifetime?

Dallas just literally traded the 22nd pick for pick 36 and a 2008 1st rd pick to the Browns which by all accounts could very well be a top 5 pick in a far deeper draft class.

Instead we traded up to 17 for a need position for a player many feel could've been there at 21.

I somewhat feel that if we'd have stayed at 21 a similar deal could've been on the table that would've made the 2008 draft one of the most exiting ever in Denver's history.

Ah well at least we have Jarvis Moss so he better fvcking perform.LOL

Yes, but who knows the circumstances surrounding it. We arent there talking on the phones so who knows what was happening behind the scenes.

I think so...To move up four places for a guy who would have been there at 21 is stupid. To know that the Browns were looking to move up and give their second and a probable top 10 next year and not make that move is asinine.

Yes they did... But they obviously wanted Jarviss Moss. Lets just hope he pans out.

It's really too bad we didn't stay and make that trade.

On the other hand - it wasn't Moss' decision - we should expect a #17 pick performance - not a high second and a 2008 first out of him.

Moss will be an elite pass rusher. He may have been available, but I'm glad we did not risk it.

I called the potential trade at #10 when the phins skipped on Quinn. I think denver really messed up by trading up four spots, if they could have stayed put they get a lot more options, and probably could've made a trade with cleveland or get the same player in moss....Damn ahwell, can't do anything about it now.

Yes, that Cleveland pick is top 10 minimum and possibly top 3. Cleveland plays Pitt, baltimore, cincy twice and Cleveland plays in the AFC. I want to barf after I finish my 18 pack...

Don't pass judgement on Moss until he has played a down in the NFL. He could end up being a bust, or he could potentially become a star under Bates.

With Moss I keep seeing Jason Taylor. Still don't think he's worth an extra 3 and 6 though.

Pointed out in the other thread, since Dallas isn't likely to draft Quinn if they keep the pick and there was a decent chance the Chiefs would, Cleveland may have zeroed in on that 22nd spot to move into. So it may not be as simple as saying the Broncos could have got the same deal Dallas did.

The Broncos paid more than the trade warranted, but it's still early - last year we didn't see the Cutler pick coming and it's turned out well (so far).

a little disappointed...trading for future firsts is probably the single best way of getting excellent value in trades....but we all got our wish with d-line in the first...lets see what happens with the rest of today!!

Exactly.

You guys didn't miss out on anything with Cleveland. Dallas held the key spot and just happened to be in the right spot at the right time.

I'm happy Denver picked Moss (I don't think very highly of him) and moved up to grab him to boot.

You won't be happy when Moss is exploding off the ball and disrupting Mr. Happy Feet Rivers.

You are correct. I wouldn't be happy with that but I don't see it happening. Time will tell...

Scheff said the Cleveland were on the phone to most of the teams between 12-22. He also said that they'd offered a deal to Jacksonville when they were on the clock with our original 21 pick. It could well have been the original offer of an 07 3rd and an 08 1st.

Well it all depends then on how Jarvis Moss turns out. He plays a position which the Broncos have the biggest hole at, his strength is the Broncos weakness... the Broncos made the decision that this guy is an impact player who can help them this year and they didn't want to wait until next year. I think there would have been some angst about the D-line if the Broncos didn't get someone in the draft who had the potential to help. We'll see...

Yeah.... Miss out on a player this team really needs (DE) for a pipe dream hope of us trading with Cleveland. Cleveland knows we do not need nor would draft a QB, so why eould they have traded with us in the first place? Also last time we traded for a future 1st round pick the Skins had alot better yean that anyone thought and we did not get anything near a top 10 pick.

Be happy with what we have for a change.

How old are you? I ask because I think the Elway trade is the trade of a lifetime.

1983

Baltimore Colts: Traded No. 1 for G-T Chris Hinton, QB Mark Hermann, G Ron Solt.

Denver Broncos: Acquired QB John Elway.

Verdict: Solt and Hinton were good offensive linemen, but Elway guided the Broncos to five Super Bowls, winning two while being named the most valuable player of Super Bowl XXXIII. ... TRADE HELPED: DENVER.

Relax, eddie. Next year will have to take care of itself. To speculate that scenario when there's good players available this year isn't sensible. Moss may have been available at 21, but there was plenty of other good players available at 21 also. Denver needs players now, not next year.

Denver is not the strongest team in the AFC, they need players now, not next year. NE had two first round picks and a ton of 3rd rounders, Pitt was picking ahead of them, Houston and the Titans also. There was some pressure to keep up. It wasn't a horrible deal. I would have liked to see Denver trade up in round 2, but look at the prices some teams paid to do so.

Granted, Denver could have stayed pat, traded down, but then? They miss out on an impact player.

Yeah well, just because the Cowboys got a call about trading up doesn't mean Denver got the same call.
