The Final Countdown. . .

It's almost only a day away, and since I'll be extremely busy tomorrow - I thought I'd post the final Broncos mock draft here tonight, so you guys can give your thoughts, hopefully enjoy it, and if you feel like it - bitch about it. Not going to go too in-depth, but I'll give what thoughts I can. I'm on a tight schedule.

First off, I'll just start off by saying this mock draft is with the Broncos staying. With them moving up, it doesn't even make sense to even do a mock. It's obvious who the likely targets are. I'm just going to assume for now, since there are no trades - that this is how it'd go down if we didn't trade up or down. It's not what I hope, it's just how I feel right now. Trying not to question anything, but I thought you'd guys enjoy. . .

Without further adieu. . .

First Round Selection, Justin Harrell - Defensive Tackle

I think Harrell is a fantastic pick here, and if we don't take a tackle in the first-round, I don't think there's much doing later on in the second and third-rounds, perhaps Paul Soliai who has that ability to do what we need to do inside; but I think our options are limited. There are a lot of positives about the kid, and he has the big frame to put on more weight. I'd hate to see this kid go to Kansas City, who is a likely spot if we don't take him.

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f150/hartcavalcade/abiamiri.jpg

Second Round Selection, Victor Abiamiri - Defensive End

I think this is a little high for Abiamiri, but I expect a run on defensive end to occur early on in the draft, so it's better to be safe than sorry. I'm trying not to rely on the Broncos talking to him in Mobile, but I feel that this kid is a legitimate target for the Broncos at the end of round two. I think he has the athleticism to succeed in Bates scheme and provides a lot of upside. Two picks in a row are spent on the defensive line, and the Bronco fan suicide meter goes down big time.

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f150/hartcavalcade/free.jpg

Third Round Selection, Doug Free - Offensive Tackle

This too may be a little high for Free, but I see a lot of teams with needs at tackle and the big time names are all there, so I too see a run at this position. I think Denver wants a guy who can fit their ZBS, who has that killer instinct and mobility - but also is larger than usual and I think Free provides this. I know this seems to be a common pick in a lot of my drafts, but I'm high on him and I think he's a legit option here for the Broncos at #70.

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f150/hartcavalcade/gattis.jpg

Third Round Selection, Josh Gattis - Defensive Back

This pick is for you Med! I juggled around the possibility of drafting earlier, but I feel that we might need to have a safety who is solid in run support and has the ability to cover. I think Gattis is one of these guys. Extremely underrated, a hard worker and a team leader. At the very least, he'll be an impact special teams player this year, but I think he could even start for us.

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f150/hartcavalcade/robinson.jpg

Sixth Round Selection, Ryne Robinson - Wide Receiver

It's a part offense pick, part special teams pick. I like Robinson's value as a slot receiver, and his ability to return. This isn't the Scott O'Brien pick of this draft, but I think it's solid value at a position on the team I think we could use upgrading (receiver) and upgrading the return game goes without saying. I think with a deep class of receivers, guys like Robinson from smaller schools will end up slipping down boards. The better for us, right?

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f150/hartcavalcade/wolfe.jpg

Sixth Round Selection, Garrett Wolfe - Running Back

Wolfe has the potential to go a lot earlier than this, but I think not getting to participate in the Senior Bowl (Although overrated) hurt him a bit. I don't think he'll be anything other than a third-down back in the NFL, but he poses a lot of value as a returner. I didn't even consider him teaming up with Free, but I guess that happens here. This is the special teams pick, Wolfe to the Broncos with their late sixth-rounder. Solid value in my opinion.

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f150/hartcavalcade/brown.jpg

Seventh Round Selection, Courtney Brown - Defensive Back

Courtney Brown is an interesting prospect. I got to see him up close and person here when NDSU played and I thought he displayed good athleticism and looked pretty good in coverage. I like how physical he is, and you have to love his combination of size and speed. He'd be a good special teamer too, and I think focusing on that aspect of our game would be important on Day 2.

ALTERNATIVE SELECTIONS

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f150/hartcavalcade/harris.jpg

If you're not a fan of Free, I like Ryan Harris' ability to fit in with the Broncos offensive line.

Definite sleeper pick, I think he'd be an interesting Day 2 selection.

Rewrite it with Calvin Johnson or Patrick Willis and I'll give you a thumbs up.

Definitely your best mock. Most of us would be happy with this draft and some people would be ecstatic.

I like it a lot Req..

DL, DL, DL!!

Then a perfect fit for our system in Free, and then a guy I like a lot in Gattis!

What a perfect Day 1.

I'm certain I'd be happier with this than what we end up with. ;)

I'm starting to think that Charles Johnson will go close to 56 - I'd love that if any chance at all.

Could Brown, Robinson and Wolf be part of special teams? I think I read where O'Brien will be given at least one pick for his input on ST's. Gattis would be good on ST's for sure.

I picked Robinson, Wolfe and Brown with special teams in mind, and the hopeful ability they could contribute as players.

Charles Johnson at #56 would be nice as well.

Req - if Branch and Harell are both there at 21, who do you favor?

(To me DT is one of the hardest positions to judge.)

I love the Harrell & Free selections!

Solid Draft. I like Harrel at #21, he is better than Moss; but i would also be happy with anthony spencer.

I've been saying for the last few days I think the Broncos likely end up with either LB Harris or DT Harrell with their top choice.

If a choice between Harrell or Branch, I'd take Harrell because his motor is never a question and he showed he'll play hurt. Branch has periods where he doesn't come to play and that's a concern.

I'm expecting quite a few WR's to be taken in the 2nd round.

I'm just not a fan of Wolfe. He's so small, and it's not the height, it's his weight. I guess if he can be like Glyn Milburn, he'd do alright.

If we get anything close to that draft I'll be one happy dude.

Nice draft. I was in an interactive mock on patsfans.com last week and took:

Harrell
Abiamiri
Marten (OT, Boston College)
Clowney (WR, VT)

so we're on the same page. You picked your "clowney" later on with Ryne Robinson, whom I also like. If Gattis was available in my mock, I would have taken him over Clowney.

I like Harrell over Branch. I like Abiamiri over the likes of Charles Johnson, Dan Bazuin, Tim Crowder, Brian Robison, Quentin Moses and probably over Moss as well. I really only like Anderson, Adams and Spencer more than Abiamiri.

I would really like that draft. Like you, I'm not real big on Abiamiri, but he's got a nice skill set and I'd be OK with him at #56. I love Josh Gattis and I really hope we pick him...I'd feel more comfortable if we took him at #70 as I don't think he'll last until #86. I think he is extremely underrated and in my opinion will be the 2nd best safety to come out of this draft when all is said and done (after Landry). Only thing missing from your draft is I think we definitely take a LB somewhere, the two signings today notwithstanding. I think Antwan Barnes might get a look in the 6th. Siler may be available on the second day depending on what mock you believe (I've seen him going anywhere from the 2nd round to the 7th depending on the mock).

It's not bad but the positions drafted make too much sense and I don't see Shanny saying going down the line with picks like that and going "DT check, DE check, OT check, S check" and so on

I have learned to expect the unexpected with Denver and am just going to wait until Saturday and stop guessing who we could pick.

This is a really tough question.

I'd take Branch, but it's not by much. I think he is just more talented as a player and if Bates and Johnson can help him get really motivated, he'd be really special. I think had Harrell played all of the season, he'd of proven to be a better player but him getting injured and missing 10 games or so (including Bowl) sort of has hurt his stock.

I think Branch gets a lot of stuff put on him he shouldn't, but I would be glad with either.

Not to draw a comparison to a former Vol, but I see Harrell being able to have John Henderson success in the NFL. Maybe not as good, but damn close.

Branch overall though, but as I said - not by much.

Great pix. They are all on my short list of wants...at least until robinson. The only change I'd make is Crowder of texas over Abiameri if he'd be there.

And harrell is much better than Branch. I love how he played 1 more game after the injury cuz it was vs florida before he called it quits for the season. W/o the injury, he'd be a top 8-15 pick...and still may make top 15.

Give me Crowder or Bazuin instead of Abiamiri, but I'd take it.

I'd go with Harrell over Branch as well. DTs are so hard to grade, if I'm going to take the risk and pick one high I'd rather it be the guy with the the top end motor and work ethic (Harrell).

love the day one! nice job req...

not sure how i feel about day two though....would like to see a big body DT picked late on day 2 for a little more depth as i think we need more than one new body in the middle of the line. also the second day is the time we find our offensive linemen too...

Nice job, I think the Victor from ND is much to high, and I would rather target one of the WR's that slip or Weddle. Good job overall, I like the Harrell pick.

My "Wish List" is:

1. Harrell
2. Marten
3. Crowder
3. Bazuin
6. Breaston
6. Studdard
7. Darby

Big Guy, you know I am as high on Crowder as anyone, but it was made with the belief (this mock) that Tim would go about 10 picks or so higher. I'd rather have him though, for sure.

Best mock I've seen. You address our 4 biggest needs in day one (DT, DE, OT, S). I think all of those eclipse LB as needs with DJ in the middle and one of Webster/Vaughn/Green/Holdman at the strongside. Plus, we already have plenty of project LBs, so taking one in rounds 6 or 7 makes little sense. overall, a SOLID draft.

Well done, Req. Your best one yet. I like all your picks. They all have shown production in college and have upside as well. Excellent work.

Great draft. We don't have a prayer of getting Willis or Calvin Johnson. I guess there will be no Ricky Williams draft.

I would be very pleased w/this draft. Maybe Crowder instead of Victor and some huge DT instead of Courtney, but I've been high on Harrell, Gattis, Free, Wolfe, and Robinson(MU guy, which is good:)) all along.

Courney Brown would be a great 7 round pick but think someone will draft him in the 4 round. All other picks are real solid.
