View Full Version : Has your online experience made you less of a fan? Overkill?

Has it?

Ten years ago, were you talking about the Broncos 365 days a year with twenty buddies a day? Were you? I don't think so. Now, with the advent of the internet and message boards, you probably discuss topics concerning your favorite team, oh, I don't know, about 300 days out of the year or at the very minimum, spending hours daily reading about your favorite team.

Has it become too much for you?

Has it become overkill?

I love the Broncos as much as the next guy, but for the first time in years, I haven't spent real man hours reading about the draft and who we should select. I am just sort of blah about it. "LIke yea, yea, whatever we do,we do... whatever."

Ten years ago, when it was much harder to get information and discuss what issues revolved around the team, it was easy to stay fresh. When football season ended, so did the fanatical fandom until you picked up your street & smith draft preview and that was that. Come April, you would watch the draft and then wait for training camp. Along the way, you might have a couple of conversations with some buddies about the Broncos (but probably a rarity if you lived outside of Colorado) and that held you over until the first preseason game.

But now? Now, you have 50 people just like you because of the internet/message board and its BRONCOS BRONCOS BRONCOS BRONCOS BRONCOS... Who is going to be the third string tight end? Can Patrick Ramsey hold? Are we going to take a backup long snapper in round 6? Rumors, rumors, rumors...aarrghhh!

Yea, it was great the first couple of years, and it still is great, but has anyone else experienced overkill with it all?

It has made me more of a fan...well, more informed anyway. I don't know any hardcore Bronco fans so coming here is great for me. I can't get enough news and rumors. I'm a geek.

Yea I agree with you a little bit. 10-15 years ago there was no ESPN news or NFL Network to give you more information than you can stand. I love the Broncos, but I try to stay away till about this time of the year and then come back when training camp starts. I like to be surprised back in the day,but now you now 2 weeks ahead of time who the free agent or draft pick you want. Its cool though

The more I read here, the more I realize that nobody really knows ****. There's plenty of people here pimping their "football knowledge", acting like they have the Rosetta Stone of football speculation, but it's all a guessing game. Every bit, of it unless they're talking football strategy, which I rarely see here, talking about the one gap slot off-tackle pull right, Tampa two system, X's and O's, etc.

The rest is hot air. But I keep coming back.

It has made me more cognizant of the fools that are out there, Gonzolay. And the mullets suck also,

Blueflame

Quite the opposite, actually... the more football knowledge I have; the more I want. If anything, perhaps it's free agency that has fans feeling kinda "blah"... when our favorite athletes could be playing in another city by next year... or even next month, it's very difficult keeping track of who's where and the personnel on our own favorite team's roster, much less our rival teams' rosters.

This has been perfect for me, broncos 24/7 with fellow brothers and sisters, nothing better. Props to the orange mane.

Im kinda with you on this one. There is no point in posting all day every day. garbage in garbage out. You are specially right on the draft thing. I haven't read up anything on anyone, there is really no point, atleast to me.

I can't wait for it though!!
I just use it more for the breaking news.

Living in California the mane does three things for me.

1 Keeps me up to date on my beloved Donks.

2 Good for laughs.

3 Gives me confidence....there are people stupid as me....and a bunch
more ignorrant.

Actually a really interesting question, but i say my passion is the same. The only thing that has changed is my indifference to a mock draft. I used to love reading them, but now after reading 100's, due to the net and such, i couldnt care less about them. I find myself researching possible picks more though because of the accessibility of info.

Honestly, I've become more of a fan and it has not been overkill for me. I've learned more about the game than I ever imagined...and I learned that about 90% of those who talk like they know everything about the game actually know nothing. I'm a die hard fan, always will be.

I love the fact that I can come on here, read about the game and shoot the breeze with others who have the same fascination as I do!

What she said ;D

Without this board, I never would have met so many great Bronco fans (and others) and I probably wouldn't be planning at least two games a year as my vacations! It's been addicting...but in a good way...;D I can honestly say without TJ and Meck our experiences at the tailgates (in Denver and out) would have never been the same! Now, we go as much to see everyone as we do the games.

What really burns me out is working for a website/magazine that covers the team. I'd rather just be a fan...when times were simpler.

Some of it seems overboard for me. Like when they were tracking Jerry Jones' private jet during the beginning of free agency to see who could potentially be signed. The jet was in St Barth's when TO was signed. It threw people for a loop.

Finding this site has made me more of a fan.

Their is no "overkill" on Bronco football!

I do, however, think their is overkill on the Draft...but then again, I don't get into college football so...(except for the Boise Bronco game...)

I only got smacked down once , by a viking fan , I was bítching about Plummer , then he leveled me with , you Bronco fans are spoiled cause of Elway , and you bastards will compare every QB to him , so no one will be good enough ......... I mentioned real men dont wear purple , but he had me with that Elway statement ;D

Easy one...who beat them in 98 when they were suppose to go to the SB...and gee, what was the score of the Giants playoff game vs. the Vikes...Hmmm....41-0?

I'm a more knowledgable fan due to this site... But I do get real tired of football because of it as well. I mean, I love football, but I just can't talk and talk and talk and then re-hash the same topics with you guys over and over again.

By the time football season is over, I'm ready for it to be. I just get burnt out on it. 2 years ago especially. Now obviously, I would have loved the Broncos to beat Pittsburgh in the AFC Championship, but when it was all said and done, I was so ready to follow the Nuggets and the NBA, and needed a change of pace.

I don't bother as much with who the Broncos could select because Shanahan always picks his shares of unknowns, anyway...LOL

Talking about the Broncos all the time on this site has actually made my fandom even stronger. Living in Chiefs territory, we don't get much news about the Broncos...

The problem here is a supposed Broncos' fan calls them Donks. That is like calling and Asian "Oriental". It is deragatory to us real fans. How about you change your name so u dont look like a Faider fan.
Gonzo, one of your better questions ive ever seen from you. Yes, it can be overkill but off season threads about the Broncos keep the dry months flowing. I just relax on it and see what happens come Saturday. So much talk on it last year and Mike pulls a gem out of left field.

Speaking as a UK guy, I can't tell you how much of a difference the internet has made. Ten years ago there was one weekly paper you could buy, but most newsagent's wouldn't stock it in the offseason - in fact, it was hard enough to find during the season!

Very occasionally I would be lucky enough to get hold of an imported US preseason review magazine with a team-by-team breakdown, and if I was really lucky a breakdown of the draft choices! It was almost impossible to keep a detailed track of what the Broncos were doing personnel-wise outside of the really big moves.

These days, i get to know exactly who is and isn't with the team, and find out about stuff pretty much the same time as everybody else. True, a lot of the stuff Iget nowadays is retreads and garbage (particularly from Burger Bill) but even than has the upside of reassuring me that there's no new newsI'm missing out on.

More options is never a bad thing. Its true there's a lot more information readily available about the NFL than ever before, but that just means you have to be more discerning in whose opinions you trust.

Overkill? NEVER! ;D

I wouldn't be as big of a fan if it wasn't for the internet. I do need a break from this place sometimes... but I will always come back.
I can never get enough Broncos football. If the regular season lasted 10 months, I'd watch it all the time with a smile in my face and be bummed when it ended cause I'd be left wanting more.
I haven't been a fan for a LONG time (5 years now), so that may be why, but I don't think I'll get tired of it anytime soon.
