View Full Version : Who did you hope that we draft in 2006?

I remember being caught up in Bunkley -- can’t say I know how he did, and who got him.

I was VERY disappointed that we went after Cutler, some kid from an Ivy League school, that I had heard little about. I think know that I was wrong, plus we got Marshal, a great TE, and an undrafted RB who contributed. So, here’s to the hope that Garcia has the wisdom to not have to visit Best Buy again this year.

Like many others, I loved Vernon Davis. Only time in my life I wanted VD. Knowing what I know now I would take Cutler over anyone in that draft including Bush.

Bunkley was a huge disappointment this year for the eagles...something like nine tackles all season

i really liked antonio cromartie...i was fascinated by the fact that such a talent could be had so late in the first round b/c of injury

Sadly enough, I ate the Chad Jackson BS to the grave, although I did point out in my write-up a day or so before the draft and in numerous other posts, trading for Walker was more likely, but I was high on Jackson.

Here was my list of targets last year with explanations. Hit on some, missed on some.

Great job, SoCal. I can tell you did your homework.

I hate the White, DeAngelo picks, but beyond that, they seem to be great. If we even have a shot at Bunkley, I'll go crazy.
Well I called those guys as busts. :approve:

I did miss on Bunkley too, though. Seems like he's a colossal bust. Oh well.

i also really really liked leonard pope in the second, so when we picked some TE i had never heard of with pope still on the board i was a little ticked...

Laurence Maroney or DeAngelo Williams, but I guess Cutler is good enough.

Few may remember, but I PUSHED HARD for us moving up into what I thought would have to be the top 7 to grab the SEC's Golden Boy!! As a UT alum, I watched him hand the Vols their helmets in 2006, and I thought to myself then- Man, this dude is better than VY or Linehart!! I really didn't know if we would go for him or not, but I REALLY REALLY WANTED us to do so!!

When it was announced we had moved up and drafted him, WOW, I WAS ECSTATIC!! Naturally I'm very happy now and believe Jay will be the next great Bronco star!!

This was my dream draft from 2006:

First, Winston Justice is still on the board at 15, so the Broncos trade their 15 and get the Jets 29, 71 and next year’s third. (This is a dream draft, okay?) Then the Jets (who I presume take a QB at 4) get Justice.

The Broncos then draft:

29. Marcedes Lewis, TE, UCLA
(Looks like he needs a little more seasoning down in J’Ville)
37. Tamba Hali, DE, Penn State
(Looking good. 8 sacks, 1 int – too bad he’s being wasted on the Chefs)
61. Taitusi Lutui, OG, USC
(Broke into the Card’s lineup and stuck for 15 games)
68. Pat Watkins, S, Fla State
(Played in 14 games and got 3 ints for the Cowpokes)
71. Babatunde Oshinowo, DT, Stanford
(Got into one game when Ted Washington went down. Still a ?)
119. Mike Hass, WR, Ore State
(Drafted by the Saints, now on the practice squad of Da Bears. I still have hope for this guy)
126. Brandon Marshall, WR, Cent. Fla.
(He’s doing okay)
130. Mike Bell, RB, AZ
(He’s doing okay)
161. Jeremy Bloom, KR. CU
(Who knows? Yanked his hammy and sat out ’06)
198. Drew Olson, QB, UCLA
(Practice squad of the Ravens, Europa ball for Amsterdam)

I was sure it was Haloti when we traded up to 11. Had we stayed put I wanted a combo of Maroney and Hali. I also thought we'd pick Pope in the 2nd and was mildly upset when Scheffler's name came through.

I thought we would trade up for Vernon Davis.

Thought we would stay put for Chad Jackson, Santonio Holmes, or Maroney.

I thought Maroney was the cat's meow, and would have been the pick. Turns out he would have been if the Cutler deal had not been possible. To say that I am pleased with Cutler is a colossal understatement....

I did not fare so well last year only hit one Bronco pick-
http://www.orangemane.com/BB/showthread.php?t=41292

15. Broncos: Chad Jackson WR/Florida (glad that didn't happen)
37. Broncos: Joseph Addai RB/LSU (would have been nice)
61. Bronccos: Mathias Kiwanuka DE/Boston College (guess he went a little earlier)
68. Broncos: Dominick Byrd TE/USC (much happier with Tony S)
119. Broncos: Bernard Pollard S/Purdue (chefs can keep him)
126. Broncos: Elvis Dumervil DE/Louisville (I am a genius)
130. Denver: Tavarias Jackson QB/Alabama St.
161. Denver: Johnny Jolly DT/Texas A&M
198. Broncos: Marvin Phillip OC/California

To get two right considering the number of options out there was not bad at all.

I remember pushing for Manny Lawson and Mathias Kiwinuka, but I did have an eye on Chad Jackson and Vernon Davis after their combine performances.

Yeah, but Bell wasn't drafted. Oh well. ;D
