View Full Version : Why We Should Trade Sideways

This is the only rational plan next week:

We send #21, #56 and #70 to the Giants.

The Giants send us #20, #51 and #81.

The draft is 20 deep and we would be cutting things close, but we're still in the safety zone.

The next talent dropoff is at 50 players. We'll be sitting at 51, but I'm projecting a reach or two. Detroit @ 38 seems like a safe bet.

By the way, the Giants are little weasel bastards. Check this out:

Linebacker Al Wilson Still on Giants Radar? (http://nfl.aolsportsblog.com/2007/04/20/linebacker-al-wilson-still-on-giants-radar/)

Maybe the team doctor who flunked him will be on vacation when Al comes in for his next physical.

If Wilson passes a physical after the Broncs released him I would cry bull****. If the Giants sign him do we get compensated at all?

What about my draft plan?

Is it not magnificent?

This is the kind of "out of the box thinking" I look for in my draft. Brilliant Slappy :)

This is SO funny: I got here by clicking the "Next Thread" link at the bottom of the previous one, so I didn't see the title of this thread ... and I'm reading and reading Slap's post and trying to understand it. I even fooled myself that I understod it for a minute!

:~ohyah!: I actually thought, "those bastard Giants are gonna sign Al after all - why should we deal with them?"

Buff got punked! ROFL! LOL

Great idea Slap. Make the must trade guys happy and keeps the don't give up draft choices guys happy. You should be a labor arbitrator.

Just a footnote on Wilson by the way. We haven't officially released him yet.

Do IR players still count against the cap? If not...make it so.

Can we try and trade every Bronco for draft picks? That way we will have so many picks that we are bound to draft at least a couple good guys. Just imagine what we could do with like 20 or 30 draft picks. ;D

Indeed they do.

Now, here's a plan that will guarantee something at EVERY POSITION...thus, this place will be one love-fest of self congratulatory back slapping.

First, Denver trades down with...say...Philadelphia.

Denver picks up Philly's first, third, and both 7th rounders.

Denver trades Philly's first to Chicago for Chicago's 2nd, a fourth and the Bears' 2nd in 2008.

We then trade our second round choice to Dallas, for a fourth 3rd, a fifth & a seventh.

We trade the Chicago 2nd to Seattle for a 5th third, fourth 4th, a forth 6th and yet another 7th.

Once we reach the third round, we can trade all those thirds for 4ths, fifths, 6th, and sevenths until nearly the entire second day is all Denver picks.

Imagine the drama...Mel Kipers' 'value board' would be a veritable guest list of future Bronco legends.

Who could tell how many Terrell Davis's', Marques Colstons, Tom Nalens & Karl Mecklenbergs we might find? Hell, we found enough Marcus Nashs, Willie Middlebrooks, Travis McGriffs & Paul Toviessi's on day one.

Reverse the curse, I say.

It's a gold mine waiting to make us rich...I'm tellin' ya...it's 'The Way To Glory'

LOL That's an interesting idea. We know there are some hidden gems in the seventh round. Let's keep trading until we own the entire round! Ha!

Sure it is. Everybody loves you. Now drop the mouse and back away from the computer.

Hell, something like that could happen. Apparently, there's a lot of potential starters/decent depth players available in round 2 and 3. Also, these are guys that can shore up the ST's. Teams don't trade up in consecutive years often seems to me, costs too much to get one impact player.

If we trade down far enough, we could corner the entire 2nd half of the 6th and most of the 7th. :wiggle:
