This is not necessarily correct. I've known several women who made better money than their ex's and they ended up parting with quite a bit upon their divorces as well. Unfortunately, you are looking at scenarios where the men were in the position to make more than the women they were married to. It goes both ways in court.

Laws starting changing in the 70s and most states had changed their laws to 50-50 accumulation (time married and or together) by the late 80s.
