Saw a show on NFL or ESPN and they had the all time best draft steals and TD was 3rd. Nice. Bob Lanier was 4th and I didnt see who #1 and #2 were.

I'm sure Tom Brady was #1.

Damn, I was watching it too and fell asleep right after TD. I wanted to see who #1 and 2 were.

I'm sure it wasn't on their list, but St. Louis getting Albert Pujols in the 13th round of the MLB amateur draft has to be up there with the great steals of this generation.

I caught the very end of the show, Tom Brady was #1.

What's the complete list?

I assume they don't count since they weren't actually drafted.

Cutler slipping all the way to 11 will end up being the all time greatest steal.

Johnny Unitis was drafted in the 19th round by the Steelers (that's the smartest move ever), then cut before the season started (that's the dumbest move ever)...picked up as a free agent while playing semi pro for $6 a game...the rest is history.

It's something that is kind of hard to quantify though isn't it?

People always point to someone like Davis, Mecklenburg, Brady, etc. as evidence you can get great players in later rounds.

But how many players in late rounds became great on a crappy team? Bad teams grind up high round players and good teams make players out of lower round picks.

I'm not so sure it is just about finding a steal. Those same guys might've been out of the league as anonymous as they came in if some perennial cellar dweller called out their names.

Meck was a 12th rounder. He has my vote. Greatest 12th round pick ever.

I think Bart Starr was a 17th round pick
