Tackle Doug Nienhuis of the Frankfurt Galaxy and Greg Eslinger of the Centurians have their first game this weekend. There are other players, but these two are the ones I want to watch and see if they've grown or changed in anyway.

Greg is listed at 292 but he still look skinny in his bio.

Anyway, maybe one of these guys will pan out.

This guard looks interesting:

It's not great, but it's some kind of football to watch.

Teyo Johnson? ugh!~

I really am not interested in most of the guys who were out of football. If you can't be a backup somewhere, I find it hard to believe that NFL Europe is going to turn your game around.

I have a neighbor that is playing in a league lower than NFL EuropA. They play in Italy. He played at a JC college so it tells you not many will get a chance to make it big.

They do play some over there. I suppose it's like Soccer her where people play and there is even a league, but it's nowhere near any of the other pro-sports. I bet the Colorado Mammoth draw more people than our Soccer team does.

Can't we sign another power forward and try to convert him to a tight end so I have a rooting interest in NFL Europa again?

Yes I read in PFW that Nienhuis has an ankle injury, info's pretty sparse though :S Also, McAlmont was actually placed on his team's practice squad. An NFLE practice squad...ouch. Definitely pumped to see eslinger though.

When did it get changed to Europa and why? Why not NFL Germany?

Because Amsterdam is in the Netherlands?

They actually play at a lower non-NFL Europa standard in most countries in Europe but the level of the American Football here is way below what you have with soccer. (There is some serious money floating into English soccer from US sports owners, including Stan Kroenke, and you've got to believe that that will also have an effect on the US soccer market eventually.)

The Eurobowl or EFL is actually one continent-wide competition before or during teams' internal country seasons for champions or vice-champions of national leagues.

If anyone is interested, details (in English) are here: http://www.eurobowl.info/

And a very familiar face playing in NFL Europa here:

Wow, thanks! Those teams are kind of fun to read about. Cool to see the sport grow there.

Teo Johnson and Lamont Reid lost on their debuts in NFL Europa. Johnson had 2 catches for 17 yards whilst Reid had 2 tackles and 1PD.

Eslinger was the winner in this match-up with the Cologne Centurians. They gained 157 yards on the ground with 2TD's and only gave up 1 sack.

157 yards thanks mostly to the awesome performance of Chiefs runningback Derrick Ross.

He can run like that behind a center-less line? Really? That's awesome. Better trade LJ for something good because Ross is going to take all his carries and get 2K this season.

Apparently he is the only one who can take credit for pass protection as well.ROFL!

Did anyone here actually watch the Cologne game? I'd like to know how Eslinger looked, did he get pushed around much?

TV highlights programme is coming up in an hour or so, so I'll see if I can catch anything about the Broncos.

Just to remind myself (or anyone else watching):
Eslinger C 53 Centurions
Nienhuis T IR Galaxy
McAlmont G PS Galaxy
Johnson TE 85 Sea Devils
Reid CB 24 Sea Devils

Q RB 20 Sea Devils

Added: OK, just from the highlights. Eslinger controlled his area on every single play shown - the Cologne OL created brutal holes and he was doing the pushing and not getting pushed.
Johnson was active around the ball on some plays shown, but none of his receptions were highlighted. Reading up on the preseason, he seems to have had a pretty good one so far, though.
Reid got burned for a TD in the corner of the endzone.

And Q had a nice outside run and one excellent punt or kick return. Sea Devils seemed to be rotating RBs and he was being replaced by heavier runners when it got serious.

Oh, and over 20,000 spectators.

I watched the game and looked at Eslinger very carefully. He was very technically sound. He moves really well and he's great bursting onto his assignment and holding on. Very quick and uses his hands well. He has bulked up some, but not enough to play at the pro level IMO. He didn't have a tremendous amount of power in his drives, and while he didn't give ground very often, he didn't push anyone around. I think sending him to NFLE was dumb because he looks to have the technique but needs to bulk up more - unless the Broncos don't think he's worth keeping and just sent him away for fun.

I watched Eslinger again today. Same thing. He's got great hands and great feet. He rarely slips or falls and does a great job keeping his block in front of him. Still, he doesn't have much push or power and never overwhelms opponents with his strength. It looks like some of his line calls didn't work out either.

Their QB Erik Meyer is really very good. He's incredibly accurate and has great feet. Unfortunately he's only 6'1".

And that Chiefs running back Derrick Ross fumbles a lot.

I thought he did well today considering his tackles are awful especially the guy on the left side Alston. I never seen Eslinger get beaten once in pass protection.
