I read a thread here a while back but I searched for it and could not find it so I apologize.
The information I was looking for in particular was regarding some people living in other areas and calling Directv and telling them they are moving to the Denver area but want to keep the billing address the same. Kind of a way around getting Denver locals which I would love to have.
I remember a discussion here regarding this.........has anyone done this recently and does it really work? What do you have to tell them besides the obvious, I am not a good bs'er so if they throw me a curveball I will say ok.

My situation was a little different than yours. I didn't have access to any HD locals here so I used the search function on DirecTv's site to find a rural area that was eligible for East/West coast HD locals, found a rural rd and used it for my address (just made one up that worked in their HD search) , called them up and told them I located my dish in my hunting cabin there and wanted the HD locals.

If that doesn't work, an off air antenna usually hooks right into your satellite receiver.
You can go to: www.antennaweb.org and put in your address and it will tell you which way to point your antenna to get all the channels.
HD locals off air are actually the best quality signal available (when you have a good antenna).

Yeah I understand you can use off air antenna's..........what I would like is the local Denver channels, rather than the local Bismarck channels.

Yeah I understand you can use off air antenna's..........what I would like is the local Denver channels, rather than the local Bismarck channels. You can get you a map of say Weld county (out lying county from Denver), find some rural rds, and make up an address on one of those county rds. Call them up and tell them you located your dish there and need the local channels for that area.
Make sure whatever you choose shows what channels you would get using DirecTv's local channels finder (http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/packProg/localChannels.jsp?assetId=900018) first.

I live in Colorado Springs and have my DirecTV addressed to mom's house in Denver. Works like a charm! (CS local TV sucks!)
However, I understand that the locals are only pushed on Sats that cover the area east to west. AKA. you cannot get Denver locals in Florida because the Sat that covers Florida does not have the Denver sigs. ND might likely use the same Sat as Denver.

Actually in all honesty there was only two games (maybe three) that were not carried locally here in Western North Dakota.......Denver is basically the local AFC team here. If I could get better reception over the air in the city I would probably be alright with it but its a pain and also, there is some cool local programming Broncos related on CBS and stuff down there and that is why I would like the most.

Great info Slug.........thanks for helping out but I just thought of something, like another poster was saying........I bet I am going to need a different dish. DISH customers around here have to have two cuz the locals are coming from a separate sat.
I live just a mile inside the county line of Maricopa/Pinal in Arizona. Direct TV says that if you live inside a major city, they have to abide by the FCC rules which means you have to get the local channels of that major city. If I lived on the other side of the county line, I then could get what ever local channels I wanted.
I too am most interested in how I can possibly get Denver local channels. Not just for the Broncos games but I want to see the coaches show, and all the other sports shows locally about the Broncos. They never talk about them down here and I want that.
Does anybody know how I can get Denver locals living down in Mesa, AZ? I know they can get them in fine because once I ordered them on my mother in laws TV to watch a Broncos game and she lives just 50 miles further out then I do. What was cool is you don't have to forfit the local channels of where you live, you just add on local channels at $5.00 a month for each set of locals you get.

I have some friends that live in Canada from April to September and live in Dallas the rest of the year. Their DTV is registered to their address in Dallas. In the summer, their "local" channels are Dallas while in Canada.

Do some DTV subscribers who get local channels in rural areas get locals from a second dish..........I say that because the Dish Network subscribers around here have to have two dishes on there houses......the locals come from a different satellite.

i'm in north dakota and have the local channels with 1 dish. you wouldnt need 2. it just has to be an updated enough dish that can receive local channels.
You used to have to have 2 Dishes or an intenna to get HD locals with Direct TV but not now. It all comes through one 5LB Dish.
My question is this. If I got an intenna, to use for my Phoenix local channels, and told DirecTV that I was moving to Denver, and got the Denver local channels through my Dish, would that work? Still not sure what I would tell DirecTV. Wouldn't I have to change the azimuth and all that crap to find the new satallite, maybe not, their close enough where it would probably be the same hunk of metal in the sky. Just not sure what I would tell them on the phone, moving? Would't they want to come move my stuff? I am serious about doing this. I want Denver local channels man. I don't mind paying the NFL ticket but you not only have to pay more every year for that but to get all those games in HD you need to get the extra channel also, which is another $100.00. I think I paid close to $400 last year and got to see 3 damn games on the ticket. They block it out if it's on local. They do show quite a few Denver games here but you know how it is, I can't miss even one. Don't want to keep paying $400 to see a handfull of games and I hate going to the stupid bar with other lame fans from some other team.
