Vince Young would make the Chiefs defense look like a pop warner team. Not when he throws, no. But I await seeing him run against the D with giddy anticipation.

Pretty true...just like nearly every year most of the Donk fans are outraged when some national publication predicts they aren't a top 5 team yet year after most years they are usually correct. I remember the cry of bloody murder at the beginning of last season when one predicted they wouldn't make the playoffs..."idiots", "morons", "can't believe they have a job" etc.etc... Your post reeks of ignrorance.

First of all, we only have one 36-year old guard. We've already got his replacement in line.

Since there was **** in free agency for wide receivers, we'll be drafting one and hoping one of our young prospects come through.

We signed our right tackle last year in the middle of the season. I'm not surprised you were ignorant of this fact...

We're definitely building something in KC. We're not the friggin' Raiders.

The problem is that the cycle continues. Your stout defense of the 90's fell apart just as you were gaining a powerful offense, now your offense is falling apart while the defense improves again.

I'll say it again Blob...and you know it's true...the Kansas City Chiefs will never be better than slightly above average as long as Carl Peterson is running the show.

watermock
04-13-2007, 01:14 AM
Your building an offense that will soon be wistfully remembering the past when King Karl ignored the defense when they had an excellent window.

I'm not sure Bobo understands that the offense will get even worse this year under Hermie. Does he understand why he was run out of NY?

Look at these signings:

Kansas City Chiefs

New free agents: LS J.P. Darche (Seahawks); LB Donnie Edwards (Chiefs); LB Napoleon Harris (Vikings); OT Damion McIntosh (Dolphins); DT Alfonso Boone (Bears); S Jon McGraw (Jets).

Retained free agents: DE Jimmy Wilkerson; DT Ron Edwards; QB Damon Huard; TE Tony Gonzalez.

Trades: None.

Departed free agents: OT Jordan Black (Texans); LB Kawika Mitchell (Giants).

Released: S Sammy Knight; OT Kyle Turley.

The offense has two weapons, Diaper Boy and an aging Gonzales. If you took time to pull your head out of your ass for a few seconds, you might notice you didn't sign a single FA WR or trade for a single WR.

The days of a dominant OL, Trint, Priest Holmes, a Gonzo in his prime and Quitterson making a last tatoo are gone.

Meanwhile Denver has gotten a new franchise QB, new WR's, changed RB, enhanced the TE position.

How did that Kyle Turley comeback work out Bobo?

I might not be an expert, but other than Donnie Edwards who had been all the team allready, I barely know of these free agents.

Compare that to Denver. Bly, Graham, Henry among some other lesser names.

Compare that to Denver.

Both teams addressed a few needs through free agency. You can't build entire teams through it.

I'm not surprised you were ignorant of this fact...

...especially since you think Donnie Edwards is replacing Kawika.

Sorry, Wiegmann is 34 and plays C and according to Grunhard, considering not playing. So what happens when he and Shields walk like Roaf?

Please inform me who the other tackle is, since Jordan Black is leaving..this I am not familiar with.

You young WR prospects are crap.

Obviously Harris is playing MLB which means Edwards goes outside.......the question is, is the upgrade of talent for the LB crew significantly better than having Mitchell at MLB?

I am far from ignorant on the subject of mediocre football teams. One thing I know for sure is that KC has not won a playoff game in 14 years and have not been to a SB since I was still sperm.

I can appreciate your points here, but you failed to mention that Denver has neglected to address one of, if not the worst defensive line in the league. Not to mention that your LB corps could be much on the decline this year.

Denver fans keep throwing up Graham like he's a premier free agent. He was a back up in NE to a half ass TE corps. The only reason you think he's so great is because Denver paid him like he is. They should have went with the D lineman instead. It may have actually improved the team.

When you can sign Daniel Graham to provide a boost in the run game and team him with Sheffler, it is a significant signing.
Plus, DL FA class was not deep and led by Kerney who, if you think Graham got overpaid, is extremely overpaid.
Throw in the trade for Bly and Henry signing, it really makes the offseason look successful.......especially when you are considering the jewel of KCs offseason is a LB in his mid 30s or Nap Harris who was not resigned by Minnesota!

Daniel Graham was never used to his abilities in New England but that's beside the point. He was not a backup either. Ben Watson caught more passes than Graham did but do you think that may have had something to do with Graham's well known ability to stand in and block. It's been established for some time that he was one of the top free agents this offseason. I think you are underestimating the effect having a 2-way threat at TE on the line opposite Tony Scheffler. In the grand scheme, the 15 million guaranteed on a $30 million contract is a lot. $80 million for Nate Clements and $40 million for a 30 plus coming of an injury pass rusher in Patrick Kerney. We made a run at Patrick Kerney and lost out but it's not that they didn't try to address it. He was the only real 4-3 D Line of note in FA this offseason. I hear they are showing interest in Kris Jenkins and there has been a lot of talk about us trying to trade up for an impact D Lineman in the draft.

All that said, you are correct... we still haven't addressed D Line in terms of personell but there is this...

Research shows no team might have improved its pass rush this offseason more than the Broncos.

Say what? There has been concern in Denver because the team loaded up on Jay Cutler's side of the ball this offseason without adding a pass rusher. The lone defensive line acquisition, Alvin McKinley, is a run-stopping tackle who comes out on third downs.

Yet, in new defensive boss Jim Bates, the Broncos might have made their most significant pass-rush addition since, well, Elvis Dumervil in last year's NFL draft.

Check out Bates' résumé: In 1999, Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor had 2 1/2 sacks in his third NFL season. The next year, his first with Bates, Taylor had 14 1/2 sacks and added 18 1/2 in 2002.

The Dolphins' other defensive end during that period, Trace Armstrong, went from 7 1/2 sacks in 1999 to 16 1/2 in 2000 - the only time he made the Pro Bowl during his 15-year career.

"We play different techniques with our defensive ends," Bates said. "There's several ways of doing things, and we always adjust to the personnel."

To those who would argue the Broncos don't have a Jason Taylor- or Trace Armstrong-caliber defensive end, there is Adewale Ogun- leye. After playing sparingly as a rookie in 2001, Ogunleye had 9 1/2 sacks for the Dolphins in 2002 and 15 1/2 in 2003, then left for Chicago, where he has been unable to match his production under Bates.

In 2005, Bates' only season of directing Green Bay's defense, end Aaron Kampman had 6 1/2 sacks after getting just seven in his first three years. Last year, Kampman improved to 15 1/2 sacks while employing the Bates-taught fundamentals.

None of those defensive ends came near the rookie production of Dumervil, who last year had 8 1/2 sacks in 13 games.

I think it's pretty obvious the Broncos have been more aggresive in trades and FA. We'll just have to see how it pays off in the next few years.

I think it's a little premature to be picking offseason losers right now. The "we signed more free agents than you" arguement is a proven loser.

However, this makes it a little easier to predict winners and losers!
