Sauerbrun's return still possible

The Broncos haven't necessarily lost the chance to bring back veteran punter Todd Sauerbrun.

The NFL Players Association is fighting a technicality in the original contract Sauerbrun signed with the New England Patriots in December. If he wins the grievance, Sauerbrun will become a free agent and can sign with any NFL team. Sauerbrun has made it known his preference is to play for the Broncos.

Sauerbrun agreed to a one-year contract with Denver on April 3. The deal was matched by the Patriots, who had the right of first refusal. The unusual clause was written into the contract Sauerbrun signed with the Patriots. However, the NFLPA will argue how the language was presented in the contract, said a source with direct knowledge of the situation.

The grievance is planned to be heard in Boston next week. A ruling is expected before the April 28-29 draft. The NFL Management Council will represent the Patriots in the case. Sauerbrun punted for the Broncos in 2005. They cut him last October after he served a four-game NFL suspension for using a banned substance.

Carlisle talking to Texans

Free-agent guard Cooper Carlisle arrived in Houston to meet with the Texans and head coach Gary Kubiak, formerly the Broncos' offensive coordinator.

Carlisle is expected to fly to Oakland tonight for a visit with the Raiders.

Carlisle has visited Seattle and Tampa Bay. The Broncos have expressed interest in bringing back Carlisle, who was a starter for them the past two seasons.

Denver's only other free agent, defensive tackle Michael Myers, said he is hiring Drew Rosenhaus as his new agent. The Broncos would like Myers to return.

That contract seemed kinda sketchy, Pats will be penalized dearly, hmm?

We help ourselves and stick it to Belicheck and the PATSIES. Win, win situation. Good luck to Sauerbraun.
He obviously does NOT want to be a PATRIOT.

What surprises me is that the Patsies want to keep him, given his clearly stated desire to play elsewhere. That implies the ONLY motivation for matching the offer is to stick it to Shanny

I assure you that Bellycheck holds no ill-will towards Shanahan. "Ill-will" does not describe it.

The one team I want the Broncos to beat every years is the Faiders. The second team is the mullets, and the third are the Pats. I don't know of the Broncos play the pats this year or not, but I hope they meet at least once somewhere along the year, and the Broncos beat them due to an amazing punt by....... (Heh, heh)

The Patriots, who won't pay their star corner, are fighting over an aging punter (of which they have 2 others on the roster). Someone tell me this isn't Belichek scheming against the Broncos in his smelly grey sweatshirt?

They are getting really wierd about personnel moves in NE. The past few years, they don't pay anyone but Brady. Yes to Adalius Thomas. No to Asante Samuel. Fight over Sauerbrun. Pay up for Welker. Wierd stuff.

That whole East Coast area has a lot of real headcases in it, from Washington to Boston......

NE doesn't want to keep him. They want to keep him from us.

Really though. All this drama over a punter? It must be the off-season.
