If you really listen, he sounds more religious than you think.
Disheartening that he was massacred after possibly his best work ever.

Good tune but religious?
Here is a quote from Lennon about that song.
Speaking in more radical terms, Lennon also said the song "is virtually the Communist Manifesto, even though I am not particularly a Communist and I do not belong to any movement. You see, 'Imagine' was exactly the same message, but sugar-coated... 'Imagine' is a big hit almost everywhere -- anti-religious, anti-nationalistic, anti-conventional, anti-capitalistic song, but because it is sugar-coated, it is accepted."
# Years later, in 1980, Lennon said, "That should be credited as a Lennon/Ono song, a lot of it -- the lyric and the concept -- came from Yoko, but those days I was a bit more selfish, a bit more macho, and I sort of omitted to mention her contribution, but it was right out of Grapefruit, her book, there's a whole pile of pieces about 'imagine this and imagine that.'"

I understand that opinion completely. But noone can deny we might all be better off without religious bullshiat.
I'm comfortable being a Christian, but the song has a point. I don't think God wants us to fight like children throwing toys, or in the modern sense, thermonuclear weapons.
I'm perfectly aware of the Easter Bunny being banned. That's not the point.

I was never big on the title track to Imagine myself...I found many of his other songs to be much more interesting than that one, but to each their own. Myself, I always equated it to The Beatles The Long And Winding Road, meaning it's soft, slow and heavily ladened with strings....the perfect formula for putting me to sleep. One good thing about it is that Yoko is not howling anywhere in the background.....a rarity when it comes to Lennon's solo work.
