View Full Version : Question about hard currency vs. cards

I remember many years ago, people yapping about the Clinton administration wanting to push cards (debit, credit, etc) more and more to the public so that they (government) could eventually control us because we would eventually have no hard currency and therefore, no actual monies. If everyone had a ton of these little plastic cards and no cash, gold, etc, they would be powerless and at the governments whim. That's all of the rhetoric I remember anyway.

I know I'm not stating it the way it was always being presented, so apologies, but would some of you folks with knowledge chime in on that and say why it could or couldn't happen and what the advantage to the government would be, regardless of political affiliation or who implemented that strategy.

I imagine it was just right-wing paranoia at the time, but is it even feasible?

Cheaper with Cards , it cost alot of money to print money ........ I dont use but 1 card , and that is a com data card , I pay for my fuel , oil , repairs ,Cash advances of 200.00 per day ,through this card , the money then is takin out of my settlement check .....
it is alot easier then carrying Cash , alot safer ........Makes bookkeeping alot easier also .......

Cheating the property tax's would be killer. Cash keeps us free from 100% of the tax burden.

Exactly how does using cash keep you from income taxes, sales taxes, use taxes, and the various and sundry other taxes that we pay on almost everything?

unreported income I guess , doesnt help with those things you mentioned , but you dont have to pay taxes on the unreported income ......... I am just damn glad Denver passed the stadium tax for our beloved Denver Broncos ........

Unless you're getting income as cash-under-the-table, you're still liable for Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid, etc...

And that Bowlen Tax - I wonder how well it's being paid off. It's been more than 8 years... IIRC, Coors Field was paid for by this point. I rather doubt that Bowlen's Up The Taxpayers' Field and Corporate Entertainment Resource (BUTTFCER) is paid off...

when you buy a car from someone, you pay 5000 cash, and report 3000 on the title to lower the property tax, no checks or deposits for proof of purchase price, there are many other examples, I learn all this from the farmers and rich people out here and how they do things

So you save a little tax on a cheap-o car. What about all the other taxes you pay? Cash-and-carry doesn't get rid of those...

Plus you take the risk of going to prison for tax evasion to avoid having to pay a few more dollars in taxes on some heap.
