View Full Version : Did Bly's contract create cap room?

Noticed his 2007 base salary got reduced from $4.3M to $1M (http://www.nflpa.org/Resources/ActivePlayerSearch.aspx?id=26986). Anyone know how his $16M guaranteed is being doled out?

They might of put in a fully guaranteed bonus into next year when they have more money. I dunno.

Maybe they are doing something similar to how they did Javon's deal last season. Give him the low base salary for the upcoming season, wait and see if he is worth it and then give him the big payday next season.

If I remember right he got a 5 mil signing b and if that is averaged over the 5 years then that should have give us 2 mil in cap space

Yes. I'm no capologist, and no doubt Eddie Mac will be along to clarify in a moment, but with Bly signed to a long term deal, his cap hit is spread out over the length of the contract (five years) reducing the hit.

More money to pay that top ten pick.

I don't like top ten picks unless one falls to say...11.

Go to Oakland then.

BTW, we didn't draft Elway. Still, that was an exception to the rule. Denver was allready sitting in the top 5.

No ****. I'm well aware how Elway became a Bronco. This goes back to my point that this team needs gamebreakers, not depth. A most true gamebreakers are taken in the first ten picks.

So Mock why don't you tell why you believe the Broncos are creating all this cap room.

Broncos will always be looking to create cap room. I think all of you are right. The extra room is for Sauerbrun, a possible high draft pick, the draft picks as they currently stand, any late FA addition they may wish to make, any injury replacement they may have to make. You never know as fans exactly what they money is for, just be glad Broncos like to spend it sometimes.

They are spending it as fast as they can create it. Rod Smith, Bailey and others. I can virtually guarantee we are done in FA.

Last time I looked we are 9 mill under the cap with an estimated 3-4 mill for draft picks. Whats the other 5-6 mill for?

I've been scouring the net since he signed the new contract and not one source have mentioned an inkling about that $16m in guaranteed money and how it breaks down.

I do know this though. Since the beginning of time not one Broncos signee (with a sizeable chunk in guarantees) have gotten all that loot up front. Henry didn't it was split between this year and next year (50%) to be exact and Graham didn't, he got approx $10m this year and will get $5m next year.

Bottom line IMO this move saves some cap room because he was already on the books with a hit of $4.2m in cap room this year.

If they broke tradition and gave him all the $$ this year then his cap hit would be exactly the same.

You have to remember SS that $9m is just an estimate corralated by myself based on the little pieces of info that sometimes squeaks out to the RMN or the DP.
