Cincinnati Bengals left tackle Levi Jones is still sporting a gash over his left eye from an altercation in a Las Vegas casino two weeks ago.

And he says ex-Steelers linebacker Joey Porter is not the only one to blame.

Jones told the Cincinnati Enquirer that he was jumped by six other men from behind before Porter hit him. Porter, now with the Miami Dolphins, was cited by police for misdemeanor battery and released. Police said the players, rivals on the field, exchanged trash talk at a casino blackjack table before the fracas.

Jones called it a "cowardly act," the Enquirer reported.

"[Porter] got my attention from the front and wouldn't get near me until the six guys jumped me from behind, [then] he took part," Jones told the Enquirer. "What started everything was the dude hit me from behind. From then on, I had to protect myself. I was attacked by seven guys. I don't know what man is going to withstand that, especially with an NFL player involved."

"It was like that, it was problematic for me and my family, especially when the true story wasn't out there," Jones told the newspaper. "The particulars about how everything went down, I mean, ESPN, all they wanted to report was Joey Porter hit me in the face."

Jones, who did not need stitches, would not say if he would file a civil suit, the Enquirer reported.

"We'll see how it plays out," he told the newspaper.

The 2005 ACS poll results show "white" population at 90,229 and all other categories added together at 91,362. There are margins of error and the poll has shortcomings but it should give you something to think about.

I remember growing up in a white neighborhood and within three short years the entire neighborhood was black. How did that happen? Once the first wave of black families move in by simple happenstance, the rest of the 100 or so families put their houses up for sell and the only people that would even come out to the neighborhood were black house buyers. Houses sold for well under market value. Why? Because white people CANT STAND being around black people.

What a weird dichotomy that neighborhood was: out 20 or so surrounding subdivisions, you had this one black, big "blight" of blacks taking over. The rest of the city became scared ****less and within 10 years, the whole SECTION of the city became black and the whites built a whole new city to north out of rough timberland. They practically built a city that had not existed to escape the blacks. Ooooh, the black boogeyman.

His portrayal goes to far, but the underlying assumption that white flight occured because white's didn't want to live in the same area as blacks is obviously correct. White flight exists today, but is no longer the dominant demographic changer it was in the 1970's. First, because federal legislation outlawing and monitoring illegal lending practices like red lining have been enforced, and second, because a new generation has grown used to diverse communities. The suburbs are no longer thoroughly white anymore. Most big cities also now have significant numbers of whites actually returning to inner city areas to upscale appartment and town home communities that have been built on the land formerly occupied by slums, but renovated through all kinds of urban renewal development projects...and these community living islands charge big bucks for the priviledge of being close to the downtown business district. Dallas has a number of these communities existing just blocks from urban blighted areas.

Well Asians, Hispanics and Jews were not the people moving out of the inner cities in the '70's. These other ethnic groups that are mostly non indigenous, which is what a lot of Hispanic, South American, Asian, and Eastern European ethnic groups largely are....first generation immigrants who band together to share resources. That's obviously a different scenario than blacks moving out of economically depressed areas into the suburbs.

The whole idea of "their community" is no longer something this country wants to or should tolerate. And if you notice...the most thoroughly segegated community in America is still the black community because so many people are unable to leave due to simple economics. You can find mixtures of all kinds of cultures and peoples throughout almost every area in most big American cities, including blacks...but you will almost always still find very large numbers of cities that are nearly 100% black. In Dallas, only very small sections of this metropolitan area of nearly 5 million are completely white, completely Asian or completely Hispanic, but huge sections of Dallas and Fort Worth are overwhelmingly black.

When I moved into my little neighborhood about 3 1/2 years ago, it was about 50/50 white and black. Then the housing market went crazy. A couple of folks who had bought houses 10-15 years ago turned around and sold them for almost a quarter million in profit.

The buyers were almost completely investors - people buying properties to turn around and rent out. It is, afterall, an entry level neighborhood. Almost all the new buyers were latin as were their the new occupants.

Suddenly, the neighborhood emptied out - excepting me and a few others. Out went the racist white flighters and the well meaning upwardly mobile negroes - who were only cashing in on a great economic oppurtunity and were NOT leaving an area where new minorties were taking over - and in came the latins.

My neighborhood has become a melting pot overnight. My kids - evil whities - have subjected, err, play with children who are from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salavador, Palestine, and Algeria, and who only knows where else. And since no one - overtly - seems to care about ethnicity, everyone gets along just fine. Imagine that!

I have a funny story to share about the Porter Ass Shot (PAS). I had barely been working at Centennial Airport when that whole thing went down. He got released from the hospital pretty quick afterwards. He flew back to Pitt on a Saturday. I got a call from Porters agent on my emergency phone asking for assistance in barring any media from getting near the plane they chartered. Of course that is part of my job so I was glad to assist. Well the time came for his departure and they paged me. I met up with the jet blocking the cabin door with my crash truck so no one could take pictures. The ambulance pulls up and out walks Joey Porter still dressed in those hospital gowns. Only problem I just happend to see him as he was climbing into the jet.
