Now that the Summer is coming to a close, thoughts of football are starting to pop up again in the collective mind of the American sports fan. Training camps. New coaches. Rookies. Hopes and expectations. And soon...

Cheerleaders.

As familiar as most fans are with the new crop of rookies entering the NFL, there seems to be a general lack of awareness concerning the new crop of sideline ladies entering the league this year. Here at WTB, we feel that it is just as important to be familiar with Lauren Gardner as it is to be familiar with JaMarcus Russell. Thankfully, this is a problem that can be easily rectified. Here is a look at this year's top rookies:

If there is a Rookie of the Year favorite, my vote would no doubt go to Lauren from the Broncos. Maybe I just have a thing for redheads, but Lauren is by far the best looking new cheerleader in my opinion. In case you wanted to know a little more about Lauren, she recently won the title of "2007 Face of Champ Car" which evidently involved her posing in a bikni. According to the Champ Car website Lauren is "21 years old, and a full time student. She would like to get into broadcasting."

Gorgeous Lauren Gardner of Denver, Colarado, USA, was crowned the 2007 ‘FACE OF CHAMP CAR’ in Mexico City during the Mexico Grand Prix. Lauren is 21 years old, and a full time student. She would like to get into broadcasting. She has won the opportunity of a lifetime with a $10,000 appearance contract from the Champ Car World Series. Lauren will be flown to at least five Champ Car World Series races in 2007 making special appearances, media calls and being treated as a VIP.

MEET LAUREN GARDNER

University of Colorado Student, High School Softball Standout, Cheerleader for the Colorado Mammoth, Miss Grand Prix of Denver: there have been a lot of titles that Lauren Gardner has held in her life time, but as the Champ Car World Series campaign shifts into full gear she is preparing to embrace her newest title, 2007 Face of Champ Car.

Lauren was a fan of the Champ Car World Series long before the Face of Champ Car contest made its debut at the Grand Prix of Denver last season. She inherited her love of racing from her father who took her to her first Champ Car race when the Grand Prix first rolled into the Mile High City in 2002.

"Having the Grand Prix in town taught me a lot about racing," Lauren stated. "My dad loves racing and he is also a big fan of open wheel racing in general. When I was little he owned a 1972 Corvette Stingray that he used to show, and a 1971 911 Porsche, which he would race just for fun. Sometimes I would tag along and watch. He would go to Laguna Seca (Calif.) every year to watch races.

"Every year since the series came to Denver, he has taken the whole family. We would always sit in Turn 9, because that seemed to be where most of the crashes happened. At first my sister and I thought it was the coolest thing, but the more we learned about the series and drivers we didn't want to see them crash. So I was into Champ Car before the contest."

"The evening gown competition on the final day was interesting because you got to pick your dress and show your own interpretation of evening wear, which was interesting because some girls picked some really revealing dresses" Lauren recalled. "I had no clue what to wear, so I wore this long dress that I actually wore to prom my junior year of high school. It was kind of funny, because I felt like I stuck out like a sore thumb!"

Even with her perceived wardrobe flaw, Lauren's knowledge of Champ Car won the judges over and she was presented with the title of Miss Denver Grand Prix. After that point she had to wait about four months to find out if she would be the next Face of Champ Car. At first she was nervous to meet the girls she was competing against, but when she arrived in Mexico City she was in for a pleasant surprise.

"At first it was intimidating meeting all the fellow winners," Lauren recalled. "We had all been to the website and had been looking at each other's profiles. It was so neat, Miss Edmonton was my roommate and she was great. Actually I was surprised at how much more laid back that competition was than the one in Denver. We got along really well and became very close; in fact we still are in contact with each other."
