View Full Version : Why would we trade above pick number 10 or so?

So I'm looking at the latest mock drafts, and I just don't understand this talk about trading for pick number 2. Do we need a big-time qb? No. Do we really need a number one receiver? No. Do we really need an ot? Sorta, but it doesn't seem pressing.

Looking at this draft, it appears that the top 5 or so picks will be those positions. And it looks like the positions we really need, dl and (depending on what happens with Wilson) lb, have a number of guys in the 5-15 range who will all be judgment calls as to when they are taken, who is taken first, etc.

Am I missing something, or would it be a waste of value for us to trade whatever it takes to get to draft number 2.

That's a great question. The only answer would be is if there is a guy at #2 who Sundquist just can't pass on. If Calvin Johnson were to put up Jerry Rice like numbers in his career, wouldn't it be worth moving up to #2?

I agree, however, and think we should stay at 21, move down, or only do a modest trade up to snag Okoye, Branch, or Carriker. That would make me happy for at least the next two months.

We probably could move up, but not into the Top 10. Mid-teens will get us the D-lineman that we need...

Calvin Johnson is the only reason tbh, I dont see any other clear cut needs besides D-lineman and going all the way to #2 for that isn't necessary.

Like Denver can go from 21 to 2 without selling the 2 farms. It is not happening next dream.

Why would we you ask? We wouldn't. There you go. Now you have your answer and my charge is only $99.00 per answer. Please mail your payment to my favorite charity (Red Cross). Thanks.

Because there have been numerous articles/rumors about trading for the number two pick. My charge is only $299.99 for straightening your ignorant ass out. You can pay it straight to your mom because I owe her some money anyway.

well that escalated quickly.

but seriously, I'm one of those people who say draft in bulk and hopefully one or 2 hits. Like we did with CB a couple years ago, fortunatly all 3 hit.

I'm actually not a big fan of picking in the top ten. The contracts are so bloated it's not worth it. There is a chance for great players, but unless it's a potential HOF player at a key position that sees action almost every down (Left Tackle, Wide Receiver, QB, Defensive End, Corner) then I'd rather stay put. As it sits right now, I'd only trade for Calvin Johnson or Joe Thomas. Other than that, those other guys aren't worth the money and the ones I like second best are rumored to be slipping anyway. (Jamaal Anderson, Alan Branch)

I don't see the Broncos trading up that far if at all. Who will be in the 10-20 range worth trading extra picks for anyway?

Give me Carriker or give me death!

Give me Carriker or give me death!

Man, I'd really like him too. I think Charles Johnson is a good prospect as well.

Alan Branch, Jamaal Anderson, Laron Landry, Adam Carriker, Levi Brown, and possibly Adrian Peterson.

Peterson isn't really a need for us, but if he fell to that spot it would be hard to say no.

I'm on record for not liking to trade up into the top 10. IMO...we got there at 11 last year in some masterfull moves. You give up way to much, and then spend 25m signing bonus before they take a snap?

If top 10 picks are so great, why do crap teams get to draft high and continue the be crap? The only team that breaks that rule are the Chargers, who fluxuate between crap and semi-crap one and outs.

There is a good chance Carriker or Barnes will be there at 21. I'm in favor of taking Pittman if he's there in round 2.

21+56=13
21+70=15

I can see 21+70 trade up but. 21+56 for 13 better staying put.

I believe Landry, Adams, Johnson, Thomas, Anderson, Willis, are all worth moving up for. Of course it always depends on the price. Why move up? Look at recent All Pro rosters and see where most were picked. I bet most of them were selected before 21.

Your post got me thinking a little, SureShot, and as you can see, the majority of the 2005 and 2006 All-Pros wasn´t picked before 21 ... I ignored Punters, Kickers and returners ....

Nice work Jens. Very interesting. I guess I should say the most dominant players in the league, ie LT,Champ,Manning,Urlacher,Peppers,Jones,Seymore. My point is we need a true dominant badass playmaker on defense, and those type of players are picked before 21.
