Not to start 'the' debate, but this game looks like the type that would really shine with the ps3's superior hardware.

I doubt it. The PS3 has a better processor, but the 360 has the advantage in memory. Most developers say its a wash.

Looked really good. I hope they tried to add more detail, instead of trying to go bigger.

I thought that in a lot of ways the series took a downward turn with San Andreas. Sure, you could technically do a lot more, but the world wasn't as cool and didn't have as much character as in Vice City.

In Vice City, I felt kinda like a bad ass driving around with all the 80's music and neon. In San Andres, I just kinda felt like a punk. San Andreas lacked a soul, something that made VC a much better game, IMHO...

San Andreas, in a way, was too big ... and sometimes it was a little tedious to drive long distances.

San Andreas is the best of the series IMO. For me it's actually kinda hard to go back and play Vice City without all the cool features introduced in SA. I really dug the SA gangsta theme too, much more so than Miami Vice.

IV definitely looks awesome.

I downloaded the video from the first link, but it's just a black screen with sound. Do I need to download a special codec or something?

Updating your Windows Media Player to v10 or v11 will usually fix playback problems for .wmv files

lol GTA graphix are always so throw back. Everythings still blocky and they are on pretty fast hardware now. Too bad b/c Oblivion and Saints Row look so good, and they are both big games where you can walk around wherever you want like GTA. Still will be sweet, I'm not sure how much more hectic the game can get.

I have Windows Media Player 11, and I've had this problem with some other video files in the past, too. Any other ideas? I mean, it's not completely black in color, kinda purplish. Like light black (if that exists) so you can tell there the borders of the video would be within the program.

As for the game itself, I find it interesting that they're actually setting it in New York City, as opposed to a fake city modeled after a real city (VC - Miami, SA - L.A.). Is the cityscape going to be realistic to NYC? Like street names, curves and turns of the streets, bridges, islands, etc. Or will it just include the major landmarks like the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, etc. If they're actually putting the game into an existing city, I would hope they make it very realistic. Otherwise, people who know the city will be disappointed, like "Hey, that's not where that street actually leads to!" and stuff.

At the highest quality setting the video is huge. Unless you have a pretty quick internet connection it's going to take some time to load up before it plays anything.

NYC = LBC it says Liberty City in Gold on a building. I still would have perfered london as all the other cities were based on city names in the 2D series and th last 2D game was GTA: London 69'

right when the dude says I've sold people look under the boat's name (Plattypus) it says Liberty City I don't work for Rockstar I just watches the video and I can read! It won't be NYC beause they would have to pay to much for the likeness rights, its just like how mustangs in GTA are called Stallions. the Statue of Liberty will probally be called the "lady of virtue" or some sh!t like that. As for the trailor looking bad the game doesn't come out for months the game designers have time to clean up the game's rough edges, and the pedophilia and beastiality comment while funny how does it relate to a video game? I just don't see it.

It's adult entertainment, I'll give you that. But it's a brilliant simulation and near perfect sandbox for some dynamic and immersive game play.

If thats the case then sign me up for the teenage donkey show!

Looks pretty great, I'm sure R* will deliver as always. Nice to know that this franchise is branching out to multiplatform release too, one less game you need to try factoring into the "which system to get" debate, we can all just enjoy it amicably.

I've created a great new game. I call it Grand Theft - Baghdad: The Insurgency. You get to play Abdul, the Al Queda insurgent launching rockets at passing truck convoys. If you are lucky enough to catch a truck driver alive, you get to saw his head off with a kitchen knife. If you can get through the first, convoy attacking level, you get to create and lay your own IEDs. Blow up children and old ladies in real time! Snipe American soldiers! Hang their burning carcasses from an overpass. It's a gas! Filled with dynamic and immersive game play.

The game does exploit the facets of American culture that you might not like, the fact of the matter is that sex and violence are what sells in this country.

If you have a problem with the subject matter of the GTA series am I to assume you have a similar problem with the NFL. Its a product that constantly entices consumers with the lure of "the big hit" and once a week it highlights its most violent moments.

Don't try to portray those who enjoy games like this as pedophilias or promoters of beastality. Those things are despicable and it pisses me off that you would even mention my name in the same sentence as pedophilia.

I'm not an immoral person because I enjoy playing GTA, just as watching football does not make me immoral. To judge others is not in my nor your job descriptions as Christians, so I'll keep my thoughts on hypocrites to my self.

Since GTA III came out the number of cars stolen in this country significanly decreased.

While correlation does not prove causation if the actual number of insurgent violence, or violent reilgious fanatiscm decreased because of a game like this than I'd be all for it.

I'm not a Christian. Far from it. I see a very big difference between a safety laying out a receiver and the celebration of some thug pulling some innocent, unarmed woman from a car and punching her face into the street until there's a puddle of blood - even if it's just a depiction of the act. Football is a physical competition among equals. Your analogy would only work if the other team consisted of little old ladies. GTA is a glorification of violence that is the moral equivalent of bestiality and pedophilia, and other blights of our culture. Religion aside, it's a blatant assault on the core values of our society.

I think it might have more to do with the fact that auto makers are making far better anti-theft and recovery systems for autos.

March 29, 2007

Investors at video game publisher Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. ousted five of the six board members up for re-election Thursday, including the chief executive, who was booted from the boardroom and the executive suite.

After years of management gaffes and embarrassing marketing stunts, frustrated shareholders said a boardroom shake-up was the only way to correct the accounting and ethical lapses of Take-Two, publisher of the popular, murder-your-way-to-victory video game “Grand Theft Auto.”

In “Grand Theft Auto,” players shoot pedestrians and police with reckless abandon. Another hit is “Bully,” about a slingshot-wielding 15-year-old at Bullworth Academy boarding school, whose motto is “Canis Canem Edit,” Latin for “dog eat dog.”

New York-based Take-Two is best known for a version of “Grand Theft Auto” that included a hidden, lewd scene that sparked a 2005 congressional uproar.

Programmers at many game publishers hide bonus material or tricks that players may unlock with special codes. “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas” had a modification distributed online known as “Hot Coffee,” which allowed players to download modifications to reveal oral sex scenes.

The House voted 355-21 to pass a resolution asking the Federal Trade Commission to investigate Take-Two and its subsidiary, Rockstar Games. Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Target Corp., Best Buy Co. and Circuit City Stores Inc. pulled the game, which was the top seller of 2004.

Take Two initially said the scenes were not part of the retail version of the game but were created by third parties. Later, the company acknowledged the scenes were contained in its version.

James Steyer, CEO and founder of San Francisco-based multimedia ratings group Common Sense Media Inc., said the unceremonious ouster is long overdue.

“If you look at the content of what these guys have distributed, it's so offensive and inappropriate. It's not surprising to learn they had committed massive acts of fraud at the board and CEO level,” said Steyer, whose nonprofit rates video games and other content for violence and other factors. “The chickens have come home to roost for this company – and I say good riddance to these guys.”

You have backdated options, hidden porn, accounting issues and mismanagement. You have management that was at best incompetent and at worst dishonest.

Violence is violence even if it is in the form of competition with similar body types. Would you not classify the "games" that took place at the Roman Forum violent? Just because you can label something "organized" and "regulated" does not mean that it can't be violent.

Football is violent, players are seriously hurt all the time some even have died. Yet on Monday Night Countdown every week we get the 10 best hist from the week before on "Jacked Up" and we fans love it.

This is one of the most blatant glorifications of violence in our culture and its something that is broadcast on network television at least they check ID's before you buy videogames. Once again I am extermley offend by having you placing my morals in the same group as child molesters.

You are a flat out hypocrite for chastising the glorification of violence if you are a fan of the NFL. Violence is Violence no matter the justification or content in which it occurs. If you have a problem with GTA fine don't buy the product, don't you think for one second that you know anything about those people who do.

Violence is violence? On what planet? By that rationalization, if somebody spanks their child's bottom that's the same thing as decapitating their grandma? Comparing football to the gladiators is really overblown. In gladitorial combat, the goal was to kill and/or maim. In football, the goal is to score a touchdown. The exercise of consciousness allows you to easily distinguish these gradations. It's called discretion. Rationalize whatever you want. I'm not judging the people who buy the game. Obviously, your own guilt is working you over. I'm judging the game itself. It's a putrid piece of morally bankrupt garbage. If I didn't believe in free speech, I'd ban that piece of crap faster than cheetah spit and lock up the aholes who wrote it.

Say...one involving gangsters and the workings of their mob family and lifestyle?
