1st Round
Paul Posluszny LB PSU
Very instinctive player with great speed and first step quickness. Also very good in over-the-middle pass coverage--one thing that was horrible last year. Excellent tackler who sends his man to the ground with a thud. A strong team leader, due to his leadership role at PSU. Solid pick and will sure up the Lbs for a good 10 years. Has knee problems, which needs to be checked out before draft, but scouts say that he is better than 100%.
2006 -- 116tkl. 3sack 4.64 -- 40 yd dash
6-1 5/8 - 238lbs

2nd Round
Steve Smith WR USC
As his predecessor, Steve Smith of the Panthers, Smith uses speed and agility as his main weapons. The newly signed Brandon Stokley has a one year contract, and health issues. These two WRs play in a similar way, fast and over the middle. A young, fast WR will sure up a 3rd option for many years. Added to great hands, Smith is an above average down field blocker, just like our great over-the-middle WR ED McCaffrey. Size and some character problems have limited his ability to excel, but put in the right situation, he will blossom as a player.
2006 -- 71rec. 1083yds. 9td 4.44 -- 40 yd dash
5-11 3/4 - 197lbs

3rd Round
Brandon Mebane DT Cal
With great strength and quickness, Mebane penetrates the OL very well. Has great pursuit and tackling abilities and stops the run very well. Lacks height but makes up for it with strength and quick feet.
2006 -- 52tkl. 4sack 10.0tfl. 5.16 -- 40 yd dash
6-1 1/8 - 309

James Marten OT BC
Smart blocker with fabulous hands. Gets a good lock to his blocking assignment. Great height but lacks strength and foot quickness. Needs improvement in mobility, but a good off-season in the weight room and with pro coaches will make Marten a solid OT. Gets the job done. Might go higher in draft, but probably will be able to be picked at either 3rd rounder pick.
6-7 ½ - 309 5.08 -- 40 yd dash

6th Round
John Wendling S Wyoming
Aggressive player with outstanding speed and pop. Great hitter and tackler with smarts and leadership. Not as fluid or agile, and lacks instincts, but a year with the master, John Lynch, will get this kid into playing shape.
2006 -- 78tkl. 4pass blocks 1int. 4.48 -- 40 yd dash
6-1 1/4 - 222lbs

7th Round
Abraham Wright DE Colorado
Pretty quick DL with a solid frame, that could use strengthening. Had 11.5 sacks as a senior, along with 57 tackles. Could be a sleeper and maybe some day a big time DE.
2006 -- 57tkl. 4tfl. 11.5sacks 4.87 -- 40 yd dash
6-2 - 242lbs

IF:

Justin Medlock K UCLA
Daren Stone S Maine
Jake Kuresa OG BYU
Jeremy Clark DT Alabama

How about Yamon Figurs? He's a dangerous return guy. we could use a 4th to 7th round flier on him, don't cha think?

Here's my take for what it's worth...

1st Round
Paul Posluszny LB PSU -- Only if we trade down. I think DT/DE is much more of a priority and there is good value for DE at #21.

2nd Round
Steve Smith WR USC -- I don't think that there is a need to do a WR this high. We have good starters and decent depth with the pickup of Stokely. Also, this draft is very deep at WR and we will be able to get value between rounds 4 and 6.

3rd Round
Brandon Mebane DT Cal -- Outstanding pick.

James Marten OT BC -- Once again, a need being addressed and getting good value.

6th Round
John Wendling S Wyoming -- I would dance in the streets and shout Hallelujah if Wendling were available in the 6th round. He won't be. But, we do need a S at some point.

7th Round
Abraham Wright DE Colorado -- Addressing the DE spot is good, but not near soon enough. Denver needs at least 2 impact players on the D-line in this draft.

IF:
We get our 6th round pick back from the Dolphins, possible picks are

Justin Medlock K UCLA
Daren Stone S Maine
Jake Kuresa OG BYU
Jeremy Clark DT Alabama -- Out of all of these I would go DT because of need.

Not a bad mock at all. I would address the Dline much sooner, and if you want an impact S, that pick will have to be made at the latest in the 4th round.

I don't think Pos is a great fit here. He's a weakside player, and maybe a fringe inside player. I'd rather wait and get a guy like Stephen Nicholas (strong take-on player who can blitz) on the 2nd day, if we draft an OLB at all.

There are a number of wideouts I'd rather take in the 2nd than Smith.

Mebane might be undersized for Denver.

Marten is a nice pick, and great value.

Wendling won't fall there because of his measurables. I think, if we go safety, we need someone who can supplant one of the starters (most likely Ferguson). We already have a wealth of depth at the position, and a few nice projects, so drafting another fringe player late in the draft would be borderline pointless.

I agree with JCM that we need to address DE much, much earlier.

needs to be a DE.

I love Poz at #21, but he has no "knee problems". He had his knee injured once...and surgery wasn't required. He's 100% and a raging badass. The best LB in this draft. Makes ZERO sense that he's not projected in the top 10, when AJ Hawk was top 5.

I would be surprised to see Wendling drop into the sixth round, but I would be very satisfied with a draft like this.

I like Posluszny's versatility and intelligence.
Steve Smith wouldn't be my first choice among wideouts, but he would be a welcome addition.
I love those hard nosed third round linemen. I would be thrilled if our third round looked exactly like that.
Like I said, I don't think Wendling makes it that far, but if he did, I would be ecstatic.
I would be happy with Wright as a project DE in round seven, too. Poor measurables, but 11.5 sacks last year.

James Marten is really good. We have success with Boston College linemen. ;D Wendling isn't dropping that far. I'd take him with our second third. Crazy? Perhaps, but we don't have a fourth, so do what you gotta do.

what is the deal with Marten!! im so sick of people having him in their mocks...he is slow and not athletic enough for our scheme.

He's big and has good feet. You're right, though - he's probably too immobile for us, but he seems like he could be a good right tackle.
