View Full Version : Is anyone surprised Carlisle and Myers are still on the market?

Because I'm not and furthermore I think there's a chance one or both players could yet be back in Denver this year, the Rocky (today) hinted at a possible Myers return in the future if he doesn't catch on anywhere.

What's the problem with these 2??? Have their demands contract-wise been too excessive or are they just very average players who performed at a decent level in a good team or are they products of a Bronco system which promotes small but reasonably fast players and in turn neither would fit well within the majority of other franchises in the league. I suppose it could be all 3.

I'm kind of surprised, but as you said we don't know what they're asking for. I know Carlisle has had talks with some teams, at least.

I think they're both just not very good...

I wonder did Denver even discuss any kind of contract parameters with either player before they hit the market just to engage the asking prices.

I'm surprised too. They were both starters for an NFL team for 16 games. Worse players have signed, so its not that they are "not very good." It's a good question

Not that ever hit the press that I saw. I think both are just roster fillers, but I hope I am wrong and they do well so that we at least get comp picks for them and Preditor next year.

Two years ago Carlisle had a agreed to a deal in principle with the Ravens and we snatched him back at the last minute. If there was interest then, I don't see why there wouldn't be now.

Woops looks like I spoke to soon about Cooper.

Yip I remember that one. Posted on the official Ravens site then Cooper changed his mind and re-signed here.

I think its just that they are very average players that provide depth. Why pay vet minimum when you can pay rookie minimum for depth/backups?

I would have to disagree with that considering both were automatic starters for the past 2 seasons. Now they may not have been great in Broncos uniforms but they didn't suck either. It's just a case of Denver looking in a different direction this year with the coaching changes.

Ho-hum players = vet minimum salaries.

Its not too much stretch of the imagination that teams can find ho-hum performance from rookies in the draft and pay a bit less for them. Especially if they are only seen as depth/backup and not expected to be big role players.

Just cause they started for us, doesnt mean they arent viewed as depth/backup material in other teams' eyes.

The starting experience could be considered a bonus, however, players who have started tend to want $$. And if they are merely backup quality thrust into a starting role - other teams may not feel like they are worth the starting-type salaries and might feel they could get similar production for better value (aka draft/UDFA)

Coop is just average and we have more capable players on our roster right now....Myers is just bad and it doesnt help that he does not fit Bates' scheme due to not being very big

I am absolutely NOT suprised that Carlisle is still on the market. He wasn't as bad as Foster was last year, but he was pretty damned average on his best days.

Next to that sieve Foster, Carlisle did very well last year.

I expect both will be signed after the draft. When teams know what they have on hand and were they need some veteran depth. Cooper will go first and Myers a week or two later.

The Dolphins should sign Cooper, but I have no clue whre Myers should go.

Cooper I'm shocked about, Myers I'm not.

Teams lok at it this way: He was the #2 DT on a team that had one of the, if not the worst interior line play last season.

Both guys are average players and maybe they are waiting to see if more teams will start making bids for them.

Carlisle is getting plenty of interest. Seattle is showing the most...

These guys are marginal players at best. The fact that Myers even started last year is sad. Cooper has been a plugger, working up the ranks from about the 7th offensive lineman to a starter for a few years... still, I think we've taken his career about as far as it can go and if we are to get better, we must improve our right guard position. Hopefully Kuper can do that. He has potential from what I saw last year... he just needs to get his ass lower to the ground in pass protection.

As bad as the Texans line is I'm suprised Kubes didn't snatch up Carlisle.

They didn't suck and they weren't great. HMMMMM. Sounds like Denver is not missing anything by moving on. I would be really shock if Myers was to return in regards to Bates system. Totally shocked. Coop, he could possibly return.

Yeah he's met with a couple of teams but no takers yet. He'll get signed. I think what someone earlier said about him being a post-draft signing is accurate.

There were plenty of posters on here that felt we should keep Carlisle before free agency started. I find it funny that we are calling him average and marginal now.

I wanted us to resign him allright. I think he's pretty good in our system, but in most other teams where they don't run a zone blocking system he doesn't translate very well as a man blocker.

I agree, I just thought it was funny that since it doesn't look like we will resign him, his playing level and ability have diminished.

Being from Indiana, I don't run into too many Broncos fans. Are we a fickle bunch??? I try to keep a rational perspective on things.

I don't think it has anything to do with us. I think it has everything to do with him being an average at best lineman. This organization expected for a lot of years to get a lot more out of Cooper than it did, going back to when Alex Gibbs was pumping him up for the left tackle position.
