"Footnotes

... Offensive tackle Erik Pears made an extra $258,422 as part of the NFL's performance- based pay system. Pears took over for Matt Lepsis after he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in October. <b>Pears will compete with Adam Meadows and second-year player Chris Kuper at right tackle. Shanahan said Lepsis is on schedule to return for training camp.</b>"

I didn't even know that this was a possibility...Is this just Billy Willy talking out of his ass again? or maybe they are trying to find a way of getting both him and Holland on the field at the same time...

They're also building in front of him. With the return of Matt Lepsis at left tackle, the Broncos are planning to put 300-pounders Erik Pears and Chris Kuper on the right side.

Yes.

Burger Bill is a fool, but Kuper did play some tackle in college. If the goal is to get the best five on the field, this would give the opportunity for Holland to start at RG next to Kuper.

From what I have read on this board anyway, Kuper has been a steal. What a great draft. Reportedly, the team is quite pleased with the 6th rounder.

1 11(11) Jay Cutler QB Vanderbilt
2 29(61) Tony Scheffler TE W Michigan
4 22(119) Brandon Marshall WR UCF
4 29(126) Elvis Dumervil OLB Louisville
4 33(130) Domenik Hixon WR Akron
5 28(161) Chris Kuper OG North Dakota
6 29(198) Greg Eslinger C Minnesota

Add in Javon, it's the best draft in ages. Yeah, we had an extra first we obviously thought would be closer to Washington's slot this year, but that's why they play the games. Apparently, the ST coach is enthusiastic about Hixon but time will tell. I haven't heard of any setbacks, but obviously, there has been at least some atrophy.

BTW, the article is written by Klis, who has at least a rudimenatary understand or give a rat's ass about the team.

We have to protect that Cutler guy, he'll stand it the pocket and take the hit. That's admirable, but we don't need him in a walker next to the crypt keeper in 5 years.

Soooooo, what you're saying is that Billy Willy contradicted himself in two of his own articles on the same day? Classic.

AHAHAHAHAHA, they are moving Chris Kuper to tackle?

Can you imagine any possible scenario in which we do not take an OT in the first round? Good gawd, moving a 6th round Division 1-AA guard over to tackle in the NFL? YEAAAA! That's going to work.

I dont know whether I should laugh or cry. That is terrible. Chris Kuper? Tackle? Wtf?

"But...but...but Gonzo, we are going DE, or better yet safety, in the first round." Get f out of here.

One article says in passing that they are going to build around kuper and pears on the right side and the other article specifically mentions Kuper competing for the starting RT position.

Got to go with the article that is more detailed and specific. Kuper is competing for the RT position. And besides, we didn't sign Montrae Holland for no reason.

People seem to forget that till you get to the next level, you never know if a draft choice will step up to the table. I also think that Graham might have a future at tackle in the future. I see no reason not to test Kuper at tackle at all.

Consider your source Gonzo.

If you want to jump off the ledge go ahead.

And if you want to be deaf, dumb and blind regarding the pathetic state of our OT position, go right ahead.

"Build around Kuper and Pears" NEWS FLASH!! You don't build around scrubs.

The jump to the NFL from North Dakota State or wherever he went is tough enough, but moving to OT would be tougher yet. They like him at guard, and I imagine he stays at guard. He doesn't look like a prototype OT. I'd rather have that classic 6'6" 320 pounder in there.

I submit Rod Smith and Matt Lepsis, Mecklenberg, Nalen...those are just off the top of my head. Your an idiot.

By your criteria, Gerald Warren should be a dominating DT.

That's all fine and dandy Footsteps, but they don't come a dime a dozen. Let Millen deal with Foster.

Kuper isn't going to play tackle, he's going to play guard. You people ****ing overreact to everything. Regardless of where he played (UND not NDSU) he was a standout and has the physical tools to dominate for us.

Gonzo might be a bitch, but we're going to take a tackle early, that's a given. I just don't agree it's first-round.

LOL...You and burger bill should meet, then maybe he'll eat you and save us the trouble of having to read your idiotic posts.

Why are they scrubs? Because of where they were drafted? In that case I guess TD, Nalen, Lepsis, among others are considered scrubs.

I forgot TD....and Cecil, altho undrafted was starting to really make a mark before he got hurt. Again, you just don't know how much the mind controls the body,..sometimes players were so dominating against the kiddie league they think they can just roll into the pros and expect the same results. Difference is, everyone there was a star in college.

I know for a fact that they like Kuper. Give him a test at tackle at least. The article DID say he would be TRIED out at RT. Sheesh.

I believe we can get one around the 10th pick in the draft.

I think its more likely that's its just a brainfart by williamson and if he'd spotted it he would have corrected himself. I suppose it would be a remote possibility if Lepsis doesn't make it back, but i think the whole reason we pretty much let Carlisle go was so that Kuper could drop into his spot.

Nothing would shock me this offseason however.....

I don't know. Lord knows I'm the biggest supporter of Kuper around here and I can understand why he'd want to make a switch because tackle pays better than guard or even center. However I don't know if Kuper has the arm length to play outside. He certainly has the talent and the strength. I'm thinking they are just trying to get their most talented players at their most critical positions.

The fact that we only heard this Kuper at tackle thing in passing in this article suggests to me its just a mistake. Again, the general fan trying to rate an offensive lineman is POINTLESS. How can Gonzo call Kuper a scrub when he hasn't even taken a pro snap yet? How can you call Pears a scrub when he did a decent job playing the tackle position that is not his natural one. Friggin relax, if the FO really thoght we were screwed at the tackle position, they would have thrown money at a free agent like they did a few years ago with Flozell Adams (before he signed back with Dallas)

Kuper is going to be very good. There's nothing wrong with grading players if you've seen them play and/or practice at some level. There's a number of people on this board whose opinion I trust on a variety of personnel.

As for Gonzo grading players, that's a case where you just have to consider the source: A racist, attention-whoring drama queen.

Straight from the horses mouth in a reply to an e-mail I sent this morning...

<b>RE: DenverPost.com: Burns retiring to start coaching career
Williamson, Bill [BWilliamson@Denverpost.com]

Probably guard first.

Are the Broncos really trying Kuper out at tackle? We haven’t heard anything about this before. Do they seem him as more of a tackle now than guard? JJ</b>
