What are your top 10 favorite songs you listen to?

Mine:

01) Breaking Benjamin - Bl_ow Me Away (Halo Theme Song)
02) Godsmack - Awake
03) Disturbed - Conflict (I listen to this before every Broncos game,)
04) Disturbed - Stupify
05) Blackfroot - Train
06) Boston - Longtime
07) Buckcherry - Crazy B_tch
08) Doobie Brothers - China Grove
09) Gun's N Roses - Night Train
10) Heart - Magic Man

OK.........I have to put 11 because I listen to ROT by Dry Kill Logic and aweful lot. I love listening to this before Raiders games, right after Conflict. Totally gets you in the mood to play the Raiders. These are the lyrics to it. Perfect!

Everything I need is not really what I want.
I really really wanna see you die.
Everything I want I can't have if left up to me
Un-af-fec-ted
By all the bull**** you cause
Un-pro-tec-ted
Naked so we see your flaws
Vi-o-lat-ed
You must think that we don't see this
Dis-re-spec-ted
Just remember it's our ass you kiss
Rot.
You don't like me; I hope you
Rot.
Un-jus-ti-fied
You keep ****ing with us; we are
Hos-tile-in-side
We consider you a joke it's
Hate-mag-nif-ied
Soon you'll think that we don't see this
Strip-down-your-pride
Soon you'll feel the force of all of us
Rot.
You don't like me; I hope you
Rot.
I don't like you
Can't you see this?
Why won't you
Leave me alone?

Too hard to pick ten, but I would say Hendrix's version of All Along the Watchtower is my favorite song.

Not a huge Hendrix fan but I do listen to his stuff now and then. Mostly the song you mentioned. Hey, if you're a classic rock fan, check out this compilation I made. Went through my MP3's and made this 6 disc set. Tried to get stuff that was mostly higher tempo for classic rock standards. The slower stuff I put on another compilation. This is too hard...

1: Dream Theater - Octavarium / Iter Impius - Pain of Salvation. (I REALLY don't know... "Octavarium" is probably one of the best songs ever written, but I can't get past the feeling of Pain of Salvation's "Iter Impius"... it's just SO awesome it's not even funny! Same with Octavarium, the climax of both songs send shivers down my spine every time I hear them)
2: Whichever isn't number 1 between the two mentioned above.

The next ones, in no particular order:

Dream Theater - Metropolis Pt.1
Dream Theater - Scarred
Shadow Gallery - Vow
Sonata Arctica - The End of This Chapter
Pain of Salvation - This Heart of Mine / Undertow
Pain of Salvation - Beyond the Pale
Pain of Salvation - Dea Pecuniae
Circus Maximus - Biosfear
Rush - The Spirit of Radio

Ok so I cheated a little bit...
It's too hard to choose... but as of right now, that would be it. (it changes almost every day... but the first two are my favorites, no doubt)

Honorable mention: John Petrucci - Wishful Thinking
Eric Johnson - Trademark
And well... a whole lot of other amazing songs... ;D

5. Colon Polyp Explosion - Little White Flora

The thrash intro is unparalleled. When lead singer Lars Hiboksnizza unleashes the lyric "SNORRRTING VITREOUS FLUID!" at the climax of the intro, you cant help but release a couple of tears.

4. Vampyrica - Human Snausage Surprise

The eloquence of the chorus juxtaposed with the elegance of the melody line are simply a clinic in beauty.

3. BLOOD! DEATH! HUMAN SACRIFICE! (BDHS) - When we were kissing, I bit off your tongue

I think that the syncopation/melody on the verse is probably the most creative instrumental hook ever written. There has never been a more heartfelt thrash song.

2. VisiGOTH Parade of Emotion - Interpretive Dance: Emo

Cutting was never such a prideful practice. The VGOTHPoE create moods of unrequited tragedy,

1. Spinal Tap - Stonehenge

Any song that mentions Banshees deserves the top spot.

They're touring right now, I went to see them in VA and MD. Two hours and fifteen minutes of each show, it was pretty impressive. Apparently Zakk is donating a good portion of the ticket sales to St. Jude's, he's committed a million dollars to the hospital. SDMF.

Incidentally, the opening band, Sanctity, bothers me. I just don't like them.

Today it's "Lights Out" by the Angry Samoans.

"Lights Out"

There's nothing more you can leave behind
So forget about seeing, get into your mind
Everything looks better when the world is black
Grab a fork, make the first attack
Lights out!
Poke poke, poke your eyes out
Lights out!
Put a pen in your hand, poke your eyes out
I can't see too well, what's it all about?
Well I dunno man, did you poke your eyes out?
Sure thing, I did it today, startin' to get hip to the lights out way
Lights out!
Poke poke, poke your eyes out
Lights out!
[Put yourself on the floor], roll all about
If you poke too far you reach the front of your brain
Fork in your mind can drive you insane!
Don't worry much, just let it rip, today your eyeballs do the lights out trip
Lights out!
Put a pen in your hand, poke your eyes out
Lights out!
Poke poke, poke your eyes out
Lights out!
Put an ax in your head, poke your eyes out!

I recently saw a cool coverband at the Oriental here in Denver...The did Dark Side of the Rainbow. I have done it with the album...but never a live band...it was awesome. It was a pretty good ripoff too..only thing that disappointed for me was the start of Any Colour you Like. It just wasn't ....trippy enough. And no vocalist for Great Gig...but they had a nice Sax for it.

While we are on the subject of music, is anyone here as upset over the song choices Chris Daughtry chose for his new album as I am? Yeah I know he was an American Idol contestant but the dude has got the perfect pipes for rock music. When he sang that song (Hemorrhage) by Fuel last year, it was even better then the original. I thought for sure he would have some nice grungy heavy stuff on his album but it's ALL top 40 material. It's so, how do I say, um.......Nickelbackish. I'm hoping that once he fills his obligation to Fox and American Idol, he can then make the album he really wants to. He needs to get some heavier stuff or IMHO, he'll be a complete waste of talent.

And since nobody else has given props so far on these two songs, guess I will throw them up there since they rock hard and are vcool.

Rammstein - Bang Bang
Drowning Pool - Let the Bodies hit the floor

Wow ... Jimmy Page played guitar on Helter Skelter? I did not know that. I'm not questioning the accracy of that, but I feel certain I would have read that by now. ???

And I listed the entire 'Side 2 medley' from Abbey Road on my list:
Sun King
Mean Mr. Mustard
Polythene Pam
She Came in Through the Bathroom Window
Golden Slumbers
Carry That Weight
The End

Admittedly it was one of FORTY+ songs I listed, but it is there

And Nice avatar HH!

That's part of my old hood over there (there and down to the Federal Theater, over to Pecos, back up to 84th or so, over to Westy area and back down to Goat Hill to Regis. I've probably seen 50 or more movies in the Oriental.

On 50th and Federal used to be a place called The Scotchman. It was the equivalent of Tubby's in Hollywood Knights or the drive-in in American Graffiti. Best and hottest rides in Denver were there. It even had it's on radio station playing non-stop music :)

I just think it's impossible to be able to list any definitive favorites when it comes to this...my collection is so large and rotational, that it's simply just not possible to select anything and list it in a 1 - 10 type of format.

XTC - Dear God

What a song this is...Partridge's greatest achievment IMHO. This is no Metal sideshow, dimestore Satanism done as a provocation for a reaction, it's a well thought out and honest questioning of religion that cuts to the core of it's very essence. Even better is the video, where the lyrics were subtitled so no mistake could be made....even after all these years since it's release, I can't remember another song that causes so much debate when it comes to matters of faith than this one did...and still does. Check out their album Black Sea if you get the chance...still my fave XTC album to date.
