Bills near a trade of Spikes

No mention of Denver in the article.

Makes me wonder if there is a chance Denver could be trading for Spikes?

They want to get rid of Al Wilson and are clearing up a large chunk of cap space by the Javon Walker bonus.

They want to move DJ inside.

Takeo is a strongside backer. He is 30 and has had some injuries the last few years though.

That would allow Gold to stay at weakside.

Just a thought......nothing more.

His achilles injury in 2005 scares me, as he may not ever be 100% of the backer he once was. But he started to come back into form later in the season last year.

I also was thinking of Spikes as an option.

He would definatly add leadership and nastiness that we would be lacking with Wilson's departure, if it happens.

So you're prepared to take on Spikes $4.5m base this season but not Al Wilson's $5.2m???

Champ and Lynch provide all of the leadership that that unit needs.

No more big money linebackers.

Get some talent in the trench.

I am not prepared to do anything. It's not my money.

I think Takeo has 1 year left on his deal. I am sure if he gets traded he will get a new deal.

Spikes, 30, is coming off a mediocre 2006 campaign and entering the final two years of his deal but should be healthy now a full year removed from his torn Achilles'

Eagles | Team showing interest in Spikes

John Murphy, of Yahoo! Sports, reports the Philadelphia Eagles are showing interest in possibly obtaining Buffalo Bills LB Takeo Spikes, according to a league source. Spikes would need to pass a physical and negotiate a new deal. The source believes the Bills could receive a mid-to-late round choice in the 2007 NFL Draft if both conditions are met. The Eagles would likely move Spikes to the outside if they acquire him. The team could also move him inside and make LB Jeremiah Trotter more of a two-down linebacker.

From the article on the first post:

Numerous teams reportedly were interested in acquiring the 30-year-old former Pro Bowler, but which one ultimately would win his services still was not known Saturday night. Spikes is entering what likely would be the final year of his contract with the Bills, and a trade may involve Spikes agreeing to a new contract with his new team. The Bills have an option to pick up the last year of Spikes’ contract, in 2008.

He was one of the top ten linebackers in football for a period of time and he can play any LB spot effectively. The recent health issues are a major concern, but he was a virtual iron man prior to the injury that wiped out most of his 2005 season. His biggest asset is his versatility.

Funny how Philly & NY would want Takeo who has had season ending injuries instead of AW who missed a few games. Stupid if you ask me.

Is that Puslunsky guy from Penn State an inside or outside LB?

The guy looks like a beast and if he is an outside LB, DJ can move in, and if he is an inside LB then he has Webster to back him up and split time with while he learns the system, and DJ can continue to progress as the Strongside LB.

He will be there at 21 if Denver stands at that pick and doesn't trade up.
