If Al leaves, and most of us probably hope that he doesn't, we need to move DJ into the middle and let him shine.

This is bull**** considering Nate already extended his deal last season for an additional 2 years. He's already under contract for 07 and 08.

I am hoping MLB for DJ. What is his weight though?

I've been saying the same thing over on Broncomania.
Nov. 4, 2006 - 1:59 p.m. ET
Broncos signed LB Nate Webster to a two-year contract extension.
Webster hasn't dressed for a game yet this season. Al Wilson's backup on paper in the middle, Webster is now under contract through 2008.
It is possible that his contract was further extended beyond '08, or there was some kind of contract restructuring (giving him a raise, possibly from his $800k salary).

Nate actually did a decent job when he filled in for Al last year. I'm excited to see if he can raise his game even more...

He was terrible in his one start against the 49ers but I'm prepared to give him more time.

Is anybody excited by this signing?
Off season with the Broncos is always fast and furious paced. I don't have any clue what all the issues are with Al Wilson but I hope it works out for him.

It's an old story folks just rehashed because some numpty from Sirus thought it was a recent development due to the ongoing Wilson trade saga.
Webster signed his extension in November.

He didn't look real capable. Not exactly a natural. Should be playing ST's, maybe he would learn about angles and such. I'm not so charitable as you.

We had most overratede LB corps in the league.

Which is why the team is trying to shake things up some, I guess. DJ seemed like he would be a one man gang in his rookie year, I don't know what happened after that. As for moving DJ to MLB, he's never played there, was only an LB in college for two years I believe and that was OLB, never played the middle. It's possible he could thrive at MLB, though.
Ah well, it's another unit that needs an upgrade. I'd sure like to see a stud LB drafted this year, but there's only so many picks.

Whoops! I spell like our LB's make big plays.

In Bates system, is it possible for a linebacker to get an interception?

Depends if they get decent pressure on the QB and force checkdowns into their zone. None of these guys have ever had good ballskills.

That's about the size of it. Fast, and.......that's about it. DJ seemed like a gem in his rookie year, we'll see if Bates can make him into a gem. Quite a shakeup in the D staff:
Coaching Staff
Mike Heimerdinger - Assistant Head Coach/Quarterbacks
Jim Bates - Assistant Head Coach/Defense
Rick Dennison - Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line
Bob Slowik - Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Backs
Joe Baker - Linebackers
Jeremy Bates - Wide Receivers/Quarterbacks
Ronnie Bradford - Assistant Defensive Backs
Jacob Burney - Defensive Line
Dwayne Chandler - Assistant Strength and Conditioning
Charlie Jackson - Defensive Assistant
Bill Johnson - Defensive Line
Pat McPherson - Tight Ends
Scott O'Brien - Special Teams Coordinator
Jim Ryan - Offensive Assistant
Greg Saporta - Assistant Strength and Conditioning
Ryan Slowik - Special Teams Assistant
Jimmy Spencer - Special Teams Assistant
Bobby Turner - Running Backs
Rich Tuten - Strength and Conditioning
Steve Watson - Associate Head Coach
Kristi Nichols - Assistant Coaches Secretary
The two LB coaches - Coyer and Kirk Doll - are gone. I don't know who the heck Charlie Jackson is. Burney has been here a couple years I believe.

Webster sucked in the last game against SF. Basically he looked like Al Wilson in the second half of the season.

21 assistant coaches is ridiculous.
We've got three coaches just for special teams.

I liked what I saw from Cameron Vaughn in pre-season last year, and think he has some potential. Nice size, and seemed to play wtih speed.
I'm sure if they're shopping Al they have a plan to improve the LBs either through the draft, or by shuffling the deck. I think moving DJ inside could be a really nice start in improving the LBs. Patrick Willis would be a nice addition also.

SoCal and I were discussing Vaughn as a possible SLB plug in next year, the thing we like outside his size and good speed are his game smarts.
