The Denver Broncos cut defensive end Courtney Brown after the former No. 1 overall pick failed his physical.

It was inevitable. I'm guessing his career is probably over. Poor guy, the injuries got the best of him.

Just strange. He wasn't injury prone in college and he couldn't stay healthy to save his life in the pros. Some guys just wear down, I guess.

Not surprising, but this should free up a couple mil of cap space, right?

He was pretty good in 05 when healthy. What a shame.

Guess this means we go DE with one of the first two picks?

With our offseason signings, there isn't any room for an injury-prone Brown. Good luck with whatever he decides to do with the rest of his life...

I doubt there are any savings. Last year, Courtney agreed to a deal (over the objections of his agent) that was very, very team-friendly. He seems like a really great guy and a team-first guy, it was very sad to see him constantly beset by injuries. I wish him all the best in his future.

One wonders what would have happen had he been drafted by a team that knew what they were doing.

This of course pretty much necessitates a DE in the draft if for nothing else than depth.

Good luck to Courtney. Class guy who couldn't buy a break in terms of injuries. He would be a great guy to bring on as a "special assistant" and develop into a coach.

I was always pulling for Courtney. Hopefully he'll something to enjoy now that his playing days are done.

He'll be sorely missed. The run D was a shadow of itself last year without him and Pryce.

His cap hit this year is $1.7m so there will be some savings possibly all as the deal he signed was incentive layden without a signing bonus.

Hey, was Courtney the one who pushed a ref in Cleveland, when the ref threw the beanbag that hit him in the eye?

Wow, I'm surprised people are so sentimental about this guy. I have no idea if he's a nice guy or not he didn't get much run in the local media. Beyond that he couldn't get on the field enough so time to move on. I know I wasn't counting on him to contribute much next season.

He had a decent season with us in 2005/06 and was very solid against the run. We were No2 or No3 in the league that year.

Bad luck for a good guy. I was hoping he'd make it back. He certainly played a role in the run to the AFC championship.

In college he was about 265, then bulked up to 290 in the pros. I always wondered if that extra weight isn't what hurt him.

This doesn't change anything (ie real cap space/draft strategy), this was a formality. I honestly dont think he was ever in the plans

I'd bet he can still catch on somewhere if he agrees to an incentive-laden deal. Lots of teams still have needs at DE and won't refuse a viable alternative.

That would require passing a physical right?

Yeah, but I think passing the physical can sometimes be a sign of your value/cost to the team as much as your physical health.

That's why I've seen players pass a physical within a week of when a previous team flunked him.

Draft A DL? DL, DL and more DL. Oh, and more DL.

Denver is known IMO, for letting players with little chance of playing again the facilities for rehab and to say goodbye to teamates on their own terms. Nothing illustrated this more than House. TD is another example.

It's a shame, obviously, when bad things happen to good people. This isn't unique to sports, it's called life, or death I guess.

Too bad for Courtney... it sucks that he just couldn't seem to stay healthy enough to achieve his full potential.

That's why I called Clelin stupid...but I wonder....did he decide to bulk up like that?

I don't remember where I heard it, but I was always under the impression that butch davis wanted him to bulk up. F'in butch, he failed at everything.

Jim Bates probably didn't care for him anyway.

Courtney made plenty of money in the NFL. Good for him and his new career.

I feel badly for Courtney...if only because he so desperately wanted to play.

I think the guy probably should have called it quits a year ago...maybe two, but he couldn't let it go.

I really hope he doesn't try to hook up with another team...maybe his family can finally intervene.

His physical ills extended far beyond the chronic knee degeneration...he had serious back problems as well...and I do mean serious.

Probably the most pleasant, gentlemanly Pro player I've ever met.

I wish him the very best.

CB should be all right after football. He's had a decent career and will collect a nice pension. Unfortunately, he doesn't fit Jim Bates system. Not at all shocked he's gone now. When Bates was hired, I expected Brown to be dumped immediately. Heck, if he wants to continue his career it is better to be released now rather than later. GL to him.

Nope. That was another Browns players whose eye never recovered. A bean bag did that? What are the odds.

Good Luck Courtney. This guy was like King of the Browncos. Everytime they were mentioned as a group his name was always first mentioned.

Thanks Wabbit and all the well wishers. Class acts.

No doubt he was one of the more classy guys in football. Reminds me a lot of Jake Plummer in regards to his views and priorities. I wouldn't mind the team finding him a spot to remain with the organization. Classy guy that can teach the young fellas a thing or two about respect, humility, and being a good citizen.

Good Luck CB!

Where were you when Rudi Johnson, Larry Johnson, Tomlinson and Gore tore our defense a new asshole in the 2nd half of the season last year. If Pryce and Brown had been here and fit to play that would never have happened.

I was to busy screaming at Al Wilson, Ian Gold, john Lynch, Dwill and DJ Willimas miss tackle after tackel in those games...

I feel bad for the guy, cause he does seem nice and all, but 38 tackles and 2 sacks over 2 seasons (1 really, but from a personel viewpoint 2) isn't exactly leaving a gaping hole in the defense. I don't think this changes anything for the Broncos, cause they couldn't count on Courtney for depth anyways. I'm not knocking the guy, it's just reality. His body hasn't and isn't cooperating.
