Per PFT, I would love to see this guy in a Broncos uniform if he comes in at a good price.
The Washington Redskins and safety Adam Archuleta will soon part ways, according to the Washington Post. Just as soon as the Redskins figure out how to best take the salary-cap medicine resulting from a $5 million signing bonus and a $5 million option bonus that is fully guaranteed by future salaries.
The deadline for payment of the option bonus was postponed temporarily, while the 'Skins try to figure out what to do with Archuleta, a one-time first-round pick of the Rams. (And a sponsor of this site.)
Though we've got no inside information in this regard, we expect the Bears to make a play for Archuleta, since Chicago is coached by Archuleta's former defensive coordinator in St. Louis, Lovie Smith.

Sure. He was pretty good in St.Louis and then Washington ****ed him over somehow (forget what they did).
He's probably hungry to come back and prove he's still a good player. If we can get him cheap, it solves the need for a safety and would give us more ammo to move up in the draft with.

Isnt Archuleta more of a Lynch clone? IŽd rather have a ballhawk.

He was never that good and was a workout warrior during college that hyped him up. There is a reason he is available and its because he can't cover worth a sh!t.

He screwed himself over in DC. Got outplayed by his competition and then pouted because he felt entitled, just because he was paid the big contract. I would not want him. I am not impressed with the effort.

Not saying Skins fans are the sharpest knife in the drawer, but they can't get rid of him quick enough.

Pass.
Archuleta is a strong safety with limited cover skills. The Skins front office tried to make a free safety out of him. It didn't take.

Definitely pass on him... When replacing Lynch we need to find a guy who can do both coverage & run support...

The Skins paid him like a rich man's version of Lynch. He was the highest paid safety and he only played special teams. What a bunch of idiots.

He would have been drafted in Denver if the Rams didn't swipe him out from under us. Shanahan was big on the kid at the time. Instead, we ended up with Middlebust. (of course, the Bills or Giants probably would have swiped him if the Rams hadn't, so it's all academic).
Archuleta takes a lot of crap he doesn't deserve because he's gotten a lot of hype. He isn't a great all around safety but he also isn't a bad safety in general.
If Lynch was hanging them up and Coyer was still our DC I'd be all for signing him. He's very similar, a better athlete than John but lacking the awareness that makes Lynch such a field general. In Coyer's system where one of our safeties has to often play run stopping assignments Archuleta would be a pretty good player.
That ship has passed now though. Bates likes cover safeties that protect his man covering CBs. I'm worried how Lynch will handle that and he's much better in coverage.

Have I mentioned how much I love the hire of Bates? Because I love it!

Washington didnt screw him over. Archie got his payday and decided he didnt need to play at a high level anymore and therefore was benched.

Other than being white , Archuleta isn't close to Lynch. When they time him they use a sun dial. Trust me, I live in STL. He couldn't cover Saragusa. Thats why Washington didn't play him last year. Some dope turned the tape on fast forward and Snyder saw it and said I gotta have this guy !!

Me too. Everyone on this board has talked about how great Bates' D did at producing sacks from the DEs but there has been very little mention of the fact that he ran the Dolphins' D when they were generating tons of picks between Madison, Surtain, etc.. We now have a better CB tandem than he ever had there, Bailey is clearly superior to either of those two in their prime and I'd take Bly over Surtain in his prime and probably Madison too. Add to that a superior #3 CB than Fletcher in Foxworth and the same with our #4, Paymah.
I only worry about our safety situation for Bates. Lynch doesn't fit his ideal but I think a field general like Lynch will find a way to fit in well. I don't think Ferguson and Lynch can both be on the field in Bates' coverage schemes though. Brandon has potential, but will he have the same speed after his injury?
Regardless I like how we're sitting, but if we add Nelson in round one or one of Weddle/Wendling/Piscatelli (SP?) in round 3 I'd be pretty damn comfortable expecting around 18-24 picks from our DBs. Wouldn't that be awesome?
