NFL stars will join Sheriff in shaved heads event
On Friday, March 16, at 11 a.m., Sheriff David Weaver, commissioned
deputies, members of the 18th Judicial District Attorneys Office and civilians will be shaving their heads to support the St. Baldrick's Foundation. St. Baldrick's raises money and awareness globally for childhood cancer research through volunteer-driven events that pair great fun with this worthy cause.
These participants will be shaving their heads in front of cheering supporters to experience themselves one of the most stigmatizing public aspects of cancer-losing one's hair from chemotherapy treatment.
This particular event will honor Isabella Ackerson, the daughter of Investigator Niles Ackerson of the Sheriff's Office. Isabella lost her battle with infant ALL/MLL Leukemia on December 27, 2006. Isabella was only six months old.
The eventwill be held in the Jury Assembly Room in the Robert A Christensen Justice Centerat 4000 Justice Way, Castle Rock.
There are now over70 people signed up to have their heads shaved on the 16th. The event will also be attended by a few active NFL players. We are also very lucky to have 3 members of the NFL Alumni in attendance.
Again, the Sheriff is going to brave the blade and shave his head. To make it more exciting, the person that donates the most money in the name of Sheriff Dave Weaver will get to take the first swipe at his locks with the clippers.
We are excited to have 3 NFL Alumni that will be at the event: Leroy Mitchell, Doug Widell, and Ken Lanier.
One of the show stoppers though is that Sam Wilder (Super Bowl Champions Indianapolis Colts) will be getting his chest waxed by Tom Nalen (Broncos). Sean Tufts (previously with Carolina Panthers) will be getting his head shaved.
At this point we have over 70 people that will be shaving their heads for the extremely important cause. We have also added a few officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department to list that will be graciously shaving their heads for the kids.
