Hope it would never happen but just got to thinking this while reading about the Ramsay signing
Would Shanny put someone in just to hand the ball off for the rest of the game?

I predict Shanny will carry 3 QBs this year. Mostly because there will be fewer Tight Ends.

Absolutely! Rod has been our emergency QB off and on over the years. So my guess is that he would come in, pass for at least 350 yards and 3 TDs and show us that he's still THE MAN!! :notworthy

Yea then half the posters in here will start saying that we have to ship Cutler out and start Rod because 'stats don't lie' :D

Preston Parsons.
Rod has been our #3 gameday QB for a while, so he'd finish off that game handing off play after play. Then Preston Parsons would get his shot the next week if needed.

It won't matter who the #3 ends up being. If two QBs go down, our season is over...
Answering the question, Shanahan would make an emergency signing of anyone who's available at the time...unless Preston Parsons is still on the roster.

Darrell Hackney (he's on the roster)
(6-foot-0, 240 pounds) is a first-year quarterback who spent his rookie season in 2006 out of the NFL after Cleveland waived him Sept. 2.
Hackney entered the NFL with the Browns as a college free agent on May 5 after finishing his career at the University of Alabama-Birmingham as the school’s all-time leader in career passing (9,886 yds.).
Hackney played 41 career games (38 starts) at UAB, completing 694-of-1,246 (55.7%) passes for 9,886 yards with 71 touchdowns and 33 interceptions. He was a first-team All-Conference USA choice as a senior in 2005 after leading the conference in passer rating (144.5) and total offense (298.6 ypg.).
Also Marshall played QB in high school

I suspect Hackney or someone not yet on the roster will be on the practice squad. Parsons has used up his PS eligibility.

didnt Shanny once say he always has Danny Kanell on speed dial ready to go? (I hope the Broncos never have to resort to this option)

There was a situation a few years back with Plummer injured and then I think Buerlein got his finger snapped which ended up with Danny Kannell starting for us.
Rod was our emergency QB then, and we came scarily close to the prospect of actually using him.
Luckily though Danny Kannell took the team on his back, we made the playoffs and won the Super Bowl that very year.
Or maybe we didn't.

If that happened...wouldn't they have to make a trade with Tampa? Doesn't Tampa own his rights for the next three years?

To answer the rest of the game issue, if all the QB's went down they would run alot. Probably fastest guy on team would get the snap then
RUN!

What happens is if Cutler goes down for any amount of time Denver needs to go scout college prospects for the next year.

I'm still rooting that somehow, some way, Jesse Palmer finds his way onto our roster.
It's the whole "First Canadian to start at QB in NFL History" thing...

Shanny went down to two QBs saying that he's never had to use three in a season, and then Buerlein went down in relief of Plummer and Kannell had to be quickly re-signed and thrown in there.
I think Shanny learned his lesson right there. We will have 3 QBs on the roster this year. Luckily also the primary backup isn't in his late 30s so may last a game or two....
However I'm also hoping that the emphasis on better pocket-protection this upcoming year will ensure that whoever is back there will have a chance of playing OK. The QB is only as good as his offensive line allows him to be.....

We actually have three QB's on gameday. The practice squad QB dresses and is considered the "emergency" QB. I don't know of this ever happening but I've read this, and I've seen the third guy for Denver dressed on the sideline.

Parsons will be ineligible for PS this year, so Hackney or someone else can take that role. Hell, maybe Rod can switch postions and get on the PS for us, they say he does put some zip on the ball.

Yeah, we usually carry a qb on the ps. Don't look for it to be a retread like Parsons though. Shanahan will bring in a few guys and whoever flashes some potential in training camp and preseason will get the practice squad spot (like BVP did a couple years ago before he crumbled with live bullets).

I thought the Emergency QB cannot come into the game unless he is listed Active on the game day roster.
I know shanny has deactivated the 3rd string guy for last 2 years.
Only option if all active QB's go down is for fastest guy to take snap & run.

The 3rd QB is the one exception to the gameday active roster.
Almost positive about the PS thing.
