The thing I'm worried about is the FO's penchant for acting out of desperation. As absolutely ridiculous as this trade is, the idea that the Skins could blow the #6 or a player like Sean Taylor for more "Magic Beans" is not beyond the realm of possibility.
I do believe that the Redskins tried to orchestrate a straight-up Springs/Bly trade with Denver that the Broncos ultimately turned down. The thing our FO has to remember is they have the upperhand in these negotiations. Bly wants to be in Washington. He refuses to extend a contract with Denver. Denver has given up Tatum Bell, George Foster, and a fifth rounder for a guy who doesn't want to be a Bronco. This is worse than the TJ Duckett trade! Now they're scrambling to get something for the guy rather than just get one year of production out of him. A smart FO would simply tell Denver "Springs and cap relief for Bly. Take it or leave it." and if they left it, then forget about getting Bly at all (or until 2008 when he's a FA and he won't cost anything other than a contract). However, the Redskins like to negotiate against themselves. I have this funny feeling it's going to be...
Gibbs: "Springs and cap relief for Bly."
Bly: "Sounds fair to me."
Shanahan: "Are you kidding? Bly is greatest CB in the history of the NFL!"
Bly: "That's a good point."

Shanahan: "Joe, you're insulting me."

Shanahan: "Keep going."

Gibbs: "Do you have a QB? We could give you Jason Campbell."
Bly: "Obviously not. Joe..."

Shanahan: "Joe, I like you. So, I tell you what I'm going to do... you throw in your 2008 first rounder too and you've got yourself a CB. But only because it's you."
