Dude, fix your poll.
You can't have an MVP discussion without having Dirk's name in there.
How can you seriously have made this list with frickin' Billups and Bosh in there but not Nowitzki?

Chris Sheridan's words from ESPN.com on this:
Award front-runnersposted: Sunday, March 4, 2007 | Print Entry
filed under: Josh Howard, Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Kapono, Brandon Roy, David Lee
A year ago at this time I was making a case that Tony Parker deserved serious consideration for the MVP award, which may have been a bit of a stretch, but not a huge one at the time.
Fast forward to today, Sunday, March 4, and there is no reason to look for a worthy alternative, as I did a year ago.
As of now, Dirk Nowitzki is the NBA's Most Valuable Player, hands down.
Steve Nash was his equal a month ago, but Nowitzki has separated himself from his old best buddy as the Dallas Mavericks have strung together a team-record 15 consecutive wins. Nowitzki has scored 30 or more points in 12 of the past 27 games, shooting a shade under 52 percent over that span, and the Mavs have gone 16-0 when he has reached 30. Nowitzki also has already eclipsed last year's total of 35 double-doubles, notching 36 and barely missing a 37th as he had 24 points, nine rebounds and seven assists Saturday night vs. Orlando.
A few more stats: Nowitzki is shooting a career-high 50.4 percent from the field and 42.3 percent from 3-point range after posting career-best percentages in both those categories a year ago, when he finished third in MVP voting for the second consecutive year. Also, Nowitzki is shooting an astounding 53 percent in the second night of back-to-back games, leading the Mavs to an 11-0 record in such games.
With all that being said, there are still six weeks left in the regular season, and we're not handing this thing to Nowitzki just yet.
A strong case can still be made for Nash, beginning with a look at the Phoenix Suns' record without him: 2-4.
Nash, the two-time defending MVP, is averaging career highs in both points and assists, and this is the sixth consecutive season -- yes, sixth -- that Nash's team has led the NBA in scoring. He is seeking to become the first player since John Stockton in 1995-96 to average at least 11 assists at the age of 32, and his shooting percentage is an unfathomable 53.6 percent.
In other words, Nash is having an ever better season than he had the past two years when he took home the hardware, which makes it even tougher to bypass him in favor of Nowitzki.
But the Mavs' 50-9 record trumps all other arguments ... at least for now.
Nash still has a chance to overtake Nowitzki, but it's going to take more than a few losses by Dallas to even things out.
The poll should have Nowitzki, but its not like it matters much. Nash is quite possibly the best player post-Jordan, his only real challenge would be Shaq in his prime.
Nash is a lock first ballot hall of famer and one of the top 10 best point guards of all time.

This MVP award will be the biggest no-brainer in a long time. Cling to hope while you can because Dirk is leaving no doubt in the minds of voters as to who the MVP is this season.
The Mavs are on pace to win 71 games right now. 71 WINS!
That would be good for 2nd in NBA history...second only to Micheal Jordan's greatest accomplishment in the regular season. In fact, Dallas is building a season on a stack of broken NBA records. Personally, I'm not expecting Dallas to win 71. Im expecting between 67-69 wins. A record of that significance (good for top 10 in NBA history...better than the showtime Lakers) will pretty much guarantee an MVP for Nowitzki. Even the doubters cant frown on Dirk if he places himself next to Jordan among the all-time greats.

With 23 games left in their season, the 50-9 Mavs have already clinched a playoff berth.
Yes, that's right.
Dallas has clinched a playoff spot only 59 games into the season in the ridiculously tough Western Conference.

Yeah, Dirk is next to Jordan, alright.
BTW, the Bulls record* came against a pitifully watered down 30 team league.
The real record was set against a 17 team league. (http://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_1972.html)

The Mavs are winning on a pace only bettered by the 72-10 Bulls. A record of 70 wins would put Nowitzki in a classification with only Michael Jordan's Bulls. It would also put him in a classification with your favorite Laker greats.
Nowitzki plays with no one on the level of Pippen, Rodman, Grant, Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, Chamberlain, or even Gail Goodrich. Dirk has no McHale, no Parrish, no Dennis Johnson. He has no Marion, no Stoudemire, no Ginobili, no Shaquille O'Neal, no Yao... not even a Lamar Odom.

Dallas is doing their thing in a brutal conference. Say what you want about the Bulls, I'm not going to argue with you about "watering down"...you could just as easily argue that today's athlete is much more skillfully refined. It doesnt matter to me one way or the other. Winning 70 games is a great accomplishment no matter which way you slice it. It's only happened once.

The "if you take player x off of team y, you can see the difference, so player x must be MVP" argument works for any of the MVP candidates.
It's really not a unique or a very compelling argument at all.
On a similar note, if you take Nash off of his team, do they get better? That's precisely what happened in Dallas.

Maybe he should yell "hibachi" every time he takes a shot or blow on his fingers after he makes one. You know, things that get you talked about on ESPN and whatnot.
It's a shame that people can't seem to accept a guy who doesn't try to stand out with anything other than his play. Instead they just call him boring.
This situation isn't unique to Duncan, Joe Sakic gets the same treatment from the media. Hell, they call him "Quoteless Joe."
When all is said and done, Duncan will be one of the top ten players to ever step on a basketball court.

I think the best players post MJ have been Shaq and TD.
I'm a Spurs fan but I would give the slight edge to Shaq because he was dominant during his prime.
Yeah, it's a shame TD still doesn't get the recognition he deserves but he likes it that way.

The media once praised players like Duncan above others because the values were different in the media and in the communities.
In the world of rapid-fire highlights and dirty laundry, hibachi sells.

If Lamar played in Dallas, he would be the #2 option behind Dirk and probably would be one of their ace defenders. Odom is very talented.
Josh is an all-star type player as well, but he doesnt have near the gifts that Odom is blessed with. Josh is an overachiever. Lamar is biding his time until the Lakers really have a shot before he risks his health, IMO.

Would the unanimous MVP miss a FT to seal the game while his competition scores 10 in 50 secs?
Let me add in the Second OT got a loss of cool T and missed game winner. Dirk chokes again just like it was the finals last year. Mavs are best team in the NBA although.

Kobe is my second favorite layer to watch behind D-Wade so ill vote kobe.
It could go to Nash or Dirk. Either one and I wouldn't care either way. Kobe is good but let's not forget, his 3 rings came with arguably the most dominating big man the game has ever seen on his side. No Shaq, where the hell have Kobe and the Lakers been? Off the map.
It's kinda funny how Nash is not known for his defense but it was his defense that slapped the Mavs in the mouth last night. Steeling that ball from Terry. Man was that a game. That loss, along with getting punked by Golden State before that should shut the lama up for a little bit. Maybe not, he probably will comeback and say how it won't ever happen again. What you need to do lama is recognize. Just like in the Finals last year, any of the top teams can win any given night so lets knock the Mavs down off that high horse until they prove they can win it all. I know this, if the Mavs thought they were in the Suns' heads, they thought wrong. Cuban can go chew on that for awhile. I love it.

depending on who wins more games, Nash or the Yetti (dirk)
sidenote I am a huge suns fan
.......and what's up the ass of the little general? I think it was Diop (or however you spell it) diving for a lose ball on the ground, bustin his butt and the Suns got the ball from him and he's running back to defend and the little butthole is just scouling and cursing at his player. Gimme a break. I could see it if a guy was slackin off or something but when a 7 footer is diving on the floor to try and make a play, get over it little man.

T-Mac is not even the best swing man in the league (see Kobe, LaBron, Carter) so how can he be the best player in the league? He's in that REALLY GOOD tier but not GREAT. He's got the talent, just too inconsistant and injured.
While we on the subject of B-ball. Durant is maybe the best player in college I have seen in 3 or 4 years. He's gonna fit right into the NBA fast.
