DAVIS GETS BIG MONEY

Adam Schefter of the NFL Network reports that the Cowboys have given offensive lineman Leonard Davis a seven-year, $49.6 million contract, with $1.875 million in guaranteed money and $24 million paid out over the first three years of the contract.

The contract bests by $100,000 the deal signed on Friday by Eric "the Skipper" Steinbach in Cleveland.

The payout in guaranteed money falls far short of the $23 million that we heard Davis wanted But it's a great contract for a guy who has gotten no all-expenses-paid working vacations to Hawaii in six NFL seasons.

And Davis brings to four the total of lineman who got huge money in the past three days based apparently on potential.

None of them -- Davis, Steinbach, Kris Dielman, or Derrick Dockery -- have ever been to the Pro Bowl

Ridiculous money for Offensive Linemen who've never sniffed the Hawaii experience.

I would prefer Steinbach out of that group. Also, a probowl does not determine if a player if good or not, all that is is name recognition and media driven BS.

That is big money. I expect to see more BIG contracts dished out soon.

that's pathetic - too bad the rest of us can't get a gigantic raise for being average or below average, eh?

I'm less concerned about his lack of probowls and more concerned about the fact that he got cut from his own team - the cards pretty much said, we like you, but not for those kind of dollars.....

Dallas must know they are overpaying for him? I didn't think they were one of the teams with lots of cap space?

They had about 19 million before signing Davis. And the Cards aren't exactly master talent evaluators.

Olinemen go to the pro bowl on reputation a lot of times. Those who are on the rise are usually the ones who are selected as pro bowl alternatives, even if they do play better than the ones who do go to the pro bowl. Once you get picked as an alternative, your name is out there and people start to pay more attention to you. Then if you continue your play from the previous year, you'll more than likely go to the pro bowl.
