View Full Version : The Plummer-to-Tampa Bay deal might not be dead

The Texans wouldn't give up a draft choice for Denver quarterback Jake Plummer. They won't trade picks. They're interested in acquiring additional picks.

The Broncos thought they had worked out a trade with Tampa Bay for a fourth-round pick, but Plummer said he was going to retire because he didn't want to play for a team that could put him in another quarterback controversy.

The Plummer-to-Tampa Bay deal might not be dead, though. A person familiar with the negotiations said late Friday that it could go through

JMO, but this is all a pathetic negotiation ploy. If Jake retires, he is going to end up writing a check for $5-$7 mil to us after we go after his bonus. In addition he is going to lose another $3-$4 mil per season over the next 3 years that we hold his rights. I don't care how "different" Jake is, he is not going to piss away $15 million because he doesn't want to learn a new system or go through a possible QB controversy.

love to get that 4th. Hell, I'd take a 5. I hope Jake gives in.

And thats all i care about. If he wants to retire great. But we shouldnt let him keep his bonus and hogtie the teams Cap because of it.

He won't... we have a pretty solid history of going after players bonuses.

Boy, looking at Lelie's numbers he deserves #1 WR kind of money ... yeah, right ... someone gave him some bad advice when he was in Denver. He should have stuck around.

I wonder how many/much we've got back? Darryl Gardner comes to mind.

With Jake the presedence has already been set with both Ricky Williams and Barry Sanders...

Did they go after Barry's when he retired? I never heard that

Yes, I can't remember the exact amount but he did write a substantial check to the lions.

I still think we trade Jake.

He is relatively healthy and he just needs some time to simmer on this being retired stuff. He'll make a turn-a-bout.

Hopefully he does it in time for the draft.

Our friends and PewterReport.com and WDAE 620 tell us that the Buccaneers are holding a press conference at 1:00 p.m.

It's widely believed that the purpose of the presser is to announce the signing of quarterback Jeff Garcia. The team has characterized the event as "big", per PewterReport.com.

Stay tuned.

That's a great setup for Garcia, playing for Gruden in TBay. He'll have no problem beating out Simms for the job. Jake blew it. At every opportunity he just goes out of his way to prove what an idiot he is.
