View Full Version : Bledsoe as Cutlers backup?

The cowgirls released Bledsoe today. He was a decent QB in his younger days before being displaced by Brady. With 14 years experience could he be of benefit to Cutler as his backup? Much like Buerline was a few years back. What do you think?

I don't know, Bledsoe is a freaking statue behind center. I'd like a guy with at least a little mobility.

If you can't protect him, then he's a waste of money.

He'd get killed behind this O-line's pass protection.

I'd rather just stick a RB at QB and just dare the D to stop you every down rather than have The Statue back there.

No way. I watched him with the Vikings...he was horrible...even worse than Jake at his worse.

Bring in John Beck in the 4th or Drew Tate in the 6th. Sassy is right...Brad J. sucked chocolate balls. Even tho Garcia is a flamer, he would be the logical backup as well as far as a veteran. Beck might not make it to us in the 4th . Bledsoe is DONE.

Hell, I'd take Rod Smith to be the No. 2 quarterback over Drew Bledsoe being the team's backup.

Bledsoe is an immobile boob.
Brad Johnson knows how to check down, read defenses and he actually won a Super Bowl. Give me some Brad Johnson, please!

Brad Johnson is a move that makes sense - he has experience, has had success, and has been a backup without crying about it. Bledsoe wouldn't make as much sense.

When Cutler goes down (not if) we need somebody who can win a game or two. Will Brad Johnson be that guy? I'd actually feel better with BG back. (ewww I can't believe I just said that....i threw up in my mouth alittle)
We should get Anthony Wright, he's the cheapest, healthiest, most mobile, and closest to his prime. Why bring in a QB who's spent more time as a punching bag than a passer in their recent history?
Wright in FA or Orton through a cheap trade (our 6th?) is my hopes. Why overspend on a washed up vet?

Unlike some I think Brad Johnson would be nice addition to this club. Yes the offense would change a little - but for short time/ a couple of games- he could come in a gets you some wins. He understand defense and still has the ability to move a team down the field.
Plus I heard that is decent mentor to young QB on the team. Wright is garbage....
hopefully brad johnson will be signed before the sun goes down tonight....i want backup qb off the priority list. we got enough other stuff to worry about and brad is the man. i live in minnesota and think he is exactly what jay needs.

Mock please tell me you weren't serious about drafting a back-up QB! Having a rookie backing up a sophomore just doesn't sound like the best option here now does it?!

If Bledsoe signs for the minimum I would take him, otherwise I would go with Brad Johnson for the minimum. Cutler won't need a backup anytime soon.

My policy for backup QBs is they need to be mobile. Because they do not know the offense as well and do not have the tools of the starter they must be able to make plays when things break down. AKA: Senaca Wallace type guy. Thats just what I like and Bledsoe stands back there like a rock!!! NO!

Just how is Bedsore going to run the part of the offense which asks the QB to move?
Can you say "sitting duck"? I thought you could.

Whatever happened with Anthony Wright? I think he'd be an ideal back up in our system.

why the hell do you have a "policy"??? are you running some team no one knows about? a backup needs to be smart more than anything and in our case you also want someone jay can learn from. hopefully this guy will stand on the sideline all year and look pretty, but that isnt the important part....the important part is finding someone that jay can turn to with questions, ask for help between sundays, that is where brad johnson would make his money. and he can still sling it if he has to...anyone that says otherwise hasnt watched him.

He's been pretty impressive as a backup...especially for Baltimore a couple of years ago. He's shown a lot of poise is pretty mobile. Why do you say "no" without giving any reasoning for it?

lol I am secretly owning the Denver Broncos....actually I use the so called lame "policy" for Madden:D I still dont agree with you and would rather have a veteran mobile kind of guy who makes things happen with his feet because of his lack of chemistry with the team. I say SCREW YOU!..jk

Who do you want as our backup then...Peyton Manning?

Out of the three, I'd take BVP.
Brad Johnson's arm is dead. He was terrible in Minn last year. If he can read a D, it doesn't matter.
Bledsoe would be the worst. He simply can't move. The OL is not a pass protecting line.
BVP would certainly bring some excitement if he had to go in. For better or worse.

it'd be nice and we should definitely see if he's available, but brad johnson is my choice.

i say no because you are choosing based off talent alone, and when looking at a backup qb when you've got a young gun like cutler you need to look at two things: 1. can he play if he has to 2. does he have anything to teach jay. Please God Jay makes it through this season healthy, this backup doesnt even play...that means his only contribution would be mentoring jay between games and i dont think wright has anything to offer, he's never been successful or a winner. Johnson has won a super bowl and was a good starter at one time, he'd have a lot of advice/experience to share with a learning cutler. In the event jay did go down, both of these guys can play. Admittedly wright may be a little more mobile, but brad can still throw the ball around and manages a game better than most which is what you want from a back up qb. Rarely do backups win games for you, you just dont want them to lose the game, brad wont lose it.
So, in a nutshell, I like Brad much better because he has leadership, experience, great character, can manage a game, knows how to win. Wright may be more mobile, younger, but that doesnt outweigh what Brad brings to the table.
I've said all this before so just read the thread if you want my take....

You obviously didn't watch too many games...he may not throw it 80 yards anymore but he can still sling it around in a WCO. Minnesota was terrible in Minnesota, very different from the situation he'd be in here in Denver with talent around him and a D that could protect a lead. And the fact that he can read a D is important, what isnt important is if he can run a 4.5 40 like a lot of people seem to focus on. Backup qb needs to be smart not fast.

Shanahan is there help Cutler learn. I want a backup QB who can come in and give us the best chance to win. Putting someone with limited mobility behind our line is a very bad thing...this has been proven time and again ever since Elway retired.
And btw, you are really coming off as an arrogant know-it-all with your tone. There's no reason to get belligerent...it's a message board.

im not trying to be cocky or anything and definitely not hostile, so i dont where the belligerent comment came from. You just said "well if you dont want wright who do you want" and i have already posted between 5-10 times throughout different threads including this one why i like brad so i question if you even read it before posting.
I live in Minnesota and have watched brad for through the years here so i am merely trying to vouch for him, because i think there are other people that maybe saw highlights on sportscenter and are ready to say he is a terrible qb. Brad was never a scrambler but he has pocket presence similar to peyton manning in that aspect. Shanahan is great but has not won a super bowl as a qb....it is a unique experience only johnson can bring, and if you dont value that, thats a personal choice but i think its important.
hope taht wasnt arrogant......

Brad Johnson? HELL NO! You guys didn't see him play in Minn. last year? **** that! They put in a rookie with ZERO NFL experience and benched Johnson in his favor. Sounds a little familiar doesn't it? Tarvaris Jackson was no better than BVP last year. He only has more upside.
Brad Johnson is done. Enbalm his arm. If we sign him, I'll be pissed.
