CLEMENTS BLOWS OUT THE CURVE
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the San Francisco 49ers have signed cornerback Nate Clements.
It's a mind-boggling eight-year, $80 million deal, with $22 million in guaranteed money, and it makes Clements the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history.
Clements was expected to be pursued by several teams. But he never got out of San Fran. http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm

Wow.
Champ Bailey's contract looks like a serious bargain right now.
On a bad note for Pats fans, the price tag for Asante Samuel just went up.

Wow, this guy isn't even on Samuel's level let alone Champ Bailey's. Good player but no where near 80 million dollars good.

well SF sure DID have money to spend. I still think they pursue Adalius Thomas and possibly settle for Joey Porter, Steve Foley, Donnie Edwards, etc. That team could be scary good if they use their cap space.

I was hoping we would give Bly a new contract before Corners started signing big contracts.

$22 million in guaranteed money is huge. This is a contact sport.

WOW way too much for a good to average corner. I can think of about 10-15 cbs better than him. That is ridiculous

Unquestionably the worst, short-sighted, mindless FA signing ever.
Do any of these people think about the ripple effect on the league...more like a tsunami.
This the same crap that has essentially ruined baseball...I mean, I enjoy the sport, but I've gotten beyond caring about who comes & goes at this stage.
...and to think, just 20 years ago, these players used to live in neighborhoods next door to you & me.
Now, you need a celebrity tour just to drive by their villa.
Nuts.

Clements might be the luckiest man alive.
