View Full Version : Plummer Traded to Tampa Bay.
Just reported on Cold Pizza, getting a middle round pick that their guy believes to be a 4th rounder.

Link says its agreed to in principle, guy on CP said it was basically a done deal.
Tampa Bay picks 3rd in the 4th round, so if their source is solid we got some real good value for Jake if you ask me.

That's pick #98 before comp picks.
Nice deal if true, 5 picks in the Top 100.

Here's the story --
ESPN.com has learned that the Denver Broncos have reached agreement in principle on most of the elements of a trade that will send veteran quarterback Jake Plummer to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Under the terms being discussed, the Broncos would receive a middle-round draft choice, believed to be a fourth-rounder, in exchange for Plummer. The trade could be announced as early as Friday.
Tampa Bay re-signed Chris Simms to a two-year contract earlier this offseason. But with Simms coming off a 2006 season in which he underwent an emergency splenectomy, the Bucs have been shopping for a veteran quarterback to bolster the depth chart.
Veteran backup Tim Rattay became an unrestricted free agent on Friday and was not expected to return to Tampa Bay.
Plummer, 32, lost his starting job in Denver to rookie Jay Cutler late last season and the Broncos have been entertaining trade offers in the offseason. A 10-year veteran, Plummer has started 136 games in stints with Arizona (1997-2002) and Denver (2003-2006). He has completed 2,484 of 4,350 passes for 29,253 yards, with 161 touchdown passes and 161 interceptions, for a passer rating of 74.6.

I was pissed at first when I heard "4th rounder". But then I remembered the Bucs are horrible. It's basically a late 3rd rounder. Not bad.

I was hoping on at least a 3rd for him. And now in my mind this tells me that Shanny isn't moving up in the draft this year, he will trade away the first round pick.

So do I change my name now? Any recommendations?? Good luck to Jake. Seems like fair value to get essentially another third. It is interesting, however, that we got more for Lelie than we did for Plummer. let that marinate.

great trade. We wanted a 3rd rounder and got near vaule with the 3rd pick in the 4th round. Those picks are always very valuable because there's always some quality guys that slip into the 2nd day.
This also helps our chances to get Jeff Garcia. It's down to us and Oakland. lol

I have posted many times that Jon Gruden was probably the best coach Jake Plummer could possibly hope to find. He made an All Pro out of weak armed Rich Gannon. Its all a matter of how hard Jake is willing to work.

Anyone else seeing this pick shipped to Buffalo for Mcgahee since Buffalo was looking for a third? Or at least this being the next step in the plan.

It is a pretty early pick, and the thing I love most about it is that it's a fourth rounder where there's usually some good talent laying around. A la, Dumervil and Marshall last year. It's actually another good place to find a safety or defensive lineman in this years draft due to the depth at the respective positions. Maybe, just maybe we take a gamble on Marcus Thomas is he's there?
Anyone following this knows that it's great value. #98 for Plummer? Beat my expectations. Now let's get Graham/Kerney in today and call it an off-season!

Great trade...seems like Shanny just keeps stockpiling talent but for some reason the picks don't seem to pan out well. Hopefully we can start seeing some of our mid-round selections start to produce sometime here (I'm talking to you Hixon). I wouldn't be surprised to see Plummer challenge Simms for the starting job given Gruden's disposition towards Simms....that punctured organ story only gets you so far
Thanks for the memories Snake! You left your heart on the field.
Now Shanny needs to get Jay the RB!

Well its the end of a very turbulent era. Jake did a lot of good for us. Most of us took our pot shots but in the end I think we all will miss at least something from that middle finger yeilden, left handed tossin, porn star stache, road ragin, Element driving SOB ^5 . Thanks for the memories both good and bad its a shame it ended like it did. I am happy with an early 4th.

Another positive from this is that by not cutting Jake and taking most of the cap hit in 2008 it means we can structure any incoming players deals for bigger hits in 2008 with the additional room we'll have plus no dead cap space.

The plummer era, please......
The guy was a joke, think of all the coaching it took to make him a reasonable player. Kubiak had to work 80 hrs a week to keep him inline. Anything you need to know about jake was answered in week 17 against the niners.
After George Foster decided not to block a full speed 49er who concust Cutler. Plummer was summoned. Season on the line, great chance to win over the fans and lead us into the playoff. What does he do? Chuck up a hail mary INT.
Close the book, put the pipe down, the guy was horrible...............

What an idiot. Why don't you look up Jake's winning percentage with the Broncos. So let me get this straight, Cutler is drafted, then Jake is benched, then Cutler is put in because he gives us such a great chance to win and make the playoffs. then Cutler gets hurt and you expect Plummer to just happily come back in and lead us to the playoffs?ROFL! you're a QB wagon jumper. nothing more.
