This is a surprise to me. He must have done something to piss them off.

I'm in shock, I thought Porter was one of thier best players?

3 time pro bowler, lead the team in sacks, gone.

I love his intensity. 3-4 LB though. Not our guy.

Is Pitt going with a 4-3 D? That would be a mistake in my opinion if that is what they plan on doing.

Retarded move by the Steelers. I see no reason why they couldn't have gotten a pick or two out of him.

ESPN says they felt loyal to Porter and didn't want to send him somewhere he didn't want to go...

LMFAO

Idiots.

Let's go 3-4 and draft Jarvis Moss and put him and Porter at OLB with DJ and Al in the middle.

Psyche.

He'll go to one of the newer 3-4 teams most likely. He had a pretty crappy year, but then again so did most of the Steeler team. He's probably got 2 decent years left in the tank.

BENGALS, CARDINALS EARLY PORTER FAVORITES

The early buzz in league circles regarding linebacker Joey Porter is that he'll initially explore opportunities in Cincinnati and Arizona.

In Arizona, Porter would rejoin former Steelers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt, former Steelers offensive line coach Russ Grimm.

In Cincinnati, Porter would have a chance to stick it to the Steelers twice per year.

Should be interesting.

They are both 4-3 teams if I'm not mistaken.

Honestly, I would think a guy like him has 31 teams interested in him. He has a motor - and a motor mouth - but he does have a motor. This is one of the more surprising moves I have seen in a while.

My understanding from a Steeler fan friend is that he wasn't happy with his contract and wanted more money. He had threatened to hold out before Tomlin was ever hired. I guess Tomlin talked to Porter's agent and he wouldn't say that Porter wouldn't hold out. It didn't come as a surprise to me since my friend had been telling me for weeks that he thought Porter would get cut. Even though Porter had been with the Steelers for a long time, he wasn't too concerned about him getting cut. He didn't think his play kept up with his mouth last year.

The main reason was that the Steelers were over the cap and needed to get under it by 12-00am Eastern Time.

Yes and no. Joey, along with Alan Fan, where upset that the Steelers went outside the franchise for the coach. Joey wasn't jumping up and down screaming for a deal last year because he loved coach Cowher so much and didn't want to do anything stupid or hurtfull to coach.

Once Tomlin took over many felt that Porter was done. He's a Cowher guy and his mouth would have been a huge distraction to the team.

Tomlin is a 4-3 guy and the word in the F.O. is they will make a gradual move to a 4-3 from the 3-4. Mixing both fronts in 2007.

It's really weird that they're gonna dismantle that defense. Hiring Tomlin didn't really make that much sense to begin with, though.

It's like the saying "if it isn't broke, why try to fix it?" The Rooney's wanted to go in a new direction for some reason.

Anything and everything Cowher has or will be removed so Tomlin can make this his team. A face lift of sorts is under way.

Anybody think he makes a move inside and replaces Donnie Edwards in SD?

That would mean we would have to do something in FA, which we've come to realise won't ever happen. If it did happen, i'd be stoked though

GAWD! I love your sig! Eddie Mac was the greatest - wore the fewest pads allowed by league rules, and a savage, viscious blocker!

We like to stay away from the bitchy overpaid has-beens. Matt Wilhelm already replaced Donnie.
