LONDON -- Prime Minister Tony Blair will announce on Wednesday a new timetable for the withdrawal of British troops from Iraq, with 1,500 to return home in several weeks, the BBC reported.

Blair will also tell the House of Commons during his regular weekly appearance before it that a total of about 3,000 British soldiers will have left southern Iraq by the end of 2007, if the security there is sufficient, the British Broadcasting Corp. said, quoting government officials who weren't further identified.

Didn't the Poles already pull out of Iraq last year?

Whoops, I stand corrected. Poland still has 900 in Iraq, in non-combat roles.

Good for them, I sure would like to see our country follow suit... Then again, Blair's politically at the end of his friggin' rope.

Their presence in Iraq was largely a symbolic one anyway. They've got only 8,000 troops stationed in Iraq. That's only 5% of the 152,000 troops that we have stationed there. Less than 5% when you factor in the troop surge.

Hard to believe that Britain half-assed it so bad if they really believed it was such an important war to be involved in. I don't get it.

(Getting into a Fox News voice) That doesn't matter one iota...it's a policy of retreat! Some ally they are! Ha!

No, they are in the middle of bull**** that they should never have been sent too. Dont even dare to try and misconstrue my hatred for this president and its administration to not supporting our troops. I used to be one.

CBS's take on it is basically the various Shia factions fighting amongst themselves
in Basra have basically taken over and the British were rendered to the point
of being useless. So that's why they are being taken out. They are serving
no useful purpose anymore and are just making matters worse.

500 more of the "willing" are leaving....less numbers = less strength...not a good thing. It's never a good thing when your side is diminished in a conflict no matter what the number may be.
