For a few hundred thousand dollars Hillary Clinton has obtained the highly pursued endorsement of an influential South Carolina senator who also happens to be the pastor of the state’s largest black church.

Clinton’s main rival for the Democratic Presidential nomination, Illinois Senator Barack Obama, also fought for Senator Darrell Jackson’s endorsement but evidently Clinton offered the highest bid. The former First Lady signed a contract with Jackson’s public relations firm for $210,000 and days later the legislator, who is also the pastor of the Bible Way Church of Columbia, vowed his support.

Besides holding public office, Jackson is considered a prized political consultant who pockets lucrative sums from his public relations firm named Sunrise Enterprise. Several presidential candidates have been fighting for Jackson’s support because it will undoubtedly translate into a lot of votes on Election Day.

In fact Jackson has bragged that his coveted endorsement has been sought by almost all Democratic candidates, including Obama, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson and North Carolina Senator John Edwards. One newspaper printed an electronic mail exchange between Obama’s campaign and Jackson that reveals how close the popular Illinois lawmaker got to obtaining the highly sought endorsement.

Evidently, Obama didn’t offer Jackson enough money. According to one reliable report, a senior strategist for Obama was on the verge of sealing a contract with Jackson’s Sunrise Enterprise for $5,000 a month beginning in mid March.

Clinton, a fundraising machine who began her presidential campaign with millions in the bank, doubled it to $10,000 a month.

The gentleman in question, has a different twist on it as far as his public statement on this article. Basically, in a nutshell, he said he couldn't hook his wagon to Obama because he won't get elected anyway, ergo, his desire is to associate with the one who will be the democratic candidate and potential pres. of the US, Hillary. This is interesting though, however, I'm thinking there is a bit more to it than the money. But, we'll see...dman

they ALL do it GB, this is at the root of the problem with respect to supporting candidates. Money does talk, and it definitely changes the road many walk down. Pretty sad sacrificing principle for money when it occurs, no matter who does it...dman

I think the reasoning behind this is obvious , electing OBama wont get Bill Clinton back in the white house , and interesting enough Hillary could pick Bill to be her running mate as VP ..........
Now I know the right wingers here hate this news , but America still loves Bill , and as long as Hillary , is with him she can ride those coat tails ...........

Yep, it's looking that way presently, I think it's findly sinking in and some are scrambling to find "the" candidate. Heard Redford wasn't doing anything, they may want to give him a call...dman

Most of the media loves Bill and Hillary, so like they did with Bill, they'll do all they can to get Hillary elected. Scandals will be excused away as right-ring hatchet jobs regardless of evidence.

Slick Willy wouldn't be vice pres. If she did get elected I could see her putting him in charge of something big though.

I just can't see that really. For one vice president doesn't do a lot. I would think he would rather tackle some project like healthcare etc. Don't be surprised if he hangs low and does nothing.

This does not suprize me in the least. I boo her tactics and wonder why a party who likes to use lines about how Reps. throw money around for influence now apparemtly condones the same thing. Oh but I guess it's ok since thier dems afterall dems get passes on things like this every election. I recall vivdily a townhall meeting MTV hosted with Al gore in late 2000. During Al's biographical intro they mentioned that Al had been in Vietnam where he smoked marijuana and "did inhale".

Now at the same time the press MTV news included had been bashing George Bush because he admitted using coke a time or two, drinking and smoking a little pot while he was in collage. WTF? How does the dem candidate get a pass?

It's a matter of IQ of the candidate and IQ of the voters.

Regardless of political philosophy, all I've ever seen out of Hillary Clinton is calculating, personal ambition on a Machiavellian scale. On a lesser scale, I see the same thing in Obama. Of course, when it comes to selling out your soul in the name of political ambition, nobody in this race comes close to McCain. I sure hope somebody can get Gore to toss his hat in the ring. As far as I've seen, he's the only one amongst all of these little persons, whose ambitions run more toward what kind of future do we want for ourselves and our children, rather than, what kind of glory can I pad to my own name.
