What time is the game guys?

6:37 pm.

The time allows for five minutes of ads and 2 mins of introduction:

"The Diamondbacks have their backs to the wall but have their work cut out for them, but they need crayons. Can they do it? In Center Field we will watch the electrifying Eric 'the Buffoon' Byrnes as he throws the ball and does a forward gainer with a 180 turn for a difficulty rating of 7. And at SS we will watch the electrifying play of ....of.....whasisname as he roams to his right, picks up a sharply hit ground ball and throws it to Left field..... wait, that's supposed to be to the first baseman. Who wrote this crap?

And we will witness the Diamondbacks' epic effort to win four of the next five to win the invitation to the World Series against the ALCS winner, probably the Indians in 6 games.... (I'll bet a Yankee fan wrote that piece of garbage...)

The game is being played in Denver. The other team will be the Rockies....."

I can hardly wait......

I love this site,

Joe Buck, bottom 6, Red Sox' diminuitive caucasian 2B Dustin Pedroia at the dish:

"He's a lot like David Eckstein -- he makes the most out of what he's got."

Finally. Someone pointed out the superficial/wrong.

Pedroia, in 2007, his 23 year-old rookie year: .317/ .380 /.442. .292 EqA.
Eckstein, Cherry Picking Best Ever Result in Every Category Throughout his Entire Career: .309/.363/.395. .274 EqA.

Eck's career SLG is .362. His career high in doubles is 26. Pedroia had 39.

But hey. They are both short. And white. So that's something.

It's a good article, however Byrnes and the Dbags can't have it both ways. One they tell us to ignore the stat sheet and look at their record and now they tell us to look at the stat sheet to show they are outplaying the rockies?? Haha.

Anyway I'll be in line next monday to get WS tickets @ Coors.

What really would worry me if I was a Rockies fan is that the World Series doesnīt start till Wednesday next week.

Last season the Tigers swept the Aīs in the ALCS and had a week off before the World Series whereas it took the Cardinals seven games to knock out the Mets ... and the Cards then made quick work of the Tigers in the WS. A possible 1.5 week lay off could potentially be terrible for a team as hot as these Rockies.

You may be right, but Helton would be able to go hunting once......

It gives you a chance to rest up and set your rotation the way you want it, but the Rockies have been so hot lately and have been playing more or less non stop since April that I hope they donīt lose their sharpness during such a long break.

Nobody wants them to start losing games to avoid this and I hope they clinch ASAP, but it isnīt a perfect situation they are in.

A layoff traditionally hurts the hitting and helps the pitching. Rockies pitching has been great, but the big guys aren't hitting right now. Need to get Helton, Holiday, Atkins, Hawpe and Tulo hitting.

No stats, but every baseball manager alive would tell you that is the general trend. Pitchers get to rest their arms and batters lose sharpness by not hitting live pitching

Ah here we go.

Here's where we go with this:

1) You're going to make some condescending statement about how stupid this is;

2) You're going to reference some Baseball Prospectus study that may or may not actually exist;

3) When you are asked to reference the study specifically, you will make some off-hand remark about "not wanting to do the work for him." (What I'm guessing this means is, "I read an article once where a Baseball Prospectus study was referenced. I can't remember where I saw said article, and I am too cheap to pay the $5.00/month for a Baseball Prospectus membership of my own.")

4) Everybody reading your responses will say to themselves, "Self, who is this douchebag?"

Please show me one post where I did either of these things.

I'll be waiting...

I paraphrased.

http://www.orangemane.com/BB/showpost.php?p=1749749&postcount=4531

And speaking of statistics, here are a few to consider.

Taveras career numbers:

.293/.338/.350/.688

Spilborghs career numbers:

.299/.355/.464/.819

Taveras being 'better' is at the very best, subjective. That's certainly giving him the benefit of the doubt. That .137 difference in the OPS is quite significant.
Way to cherry pick stats. How about you throw in Runs, Stolen Bases, Fielding %, EQa, VORP, WARP, etc... Just drop this one, bro, you are way out of your league.

Feel free to present your case.

I just did. Look up any accepted metric of a players worth, and you will find Taveras ahead of Spilborghs. Add that to the fact that Hurdle, who for all his shortcomings has probably forgotten more about baseball than you ever knew, also agrees with me. But hey, keep being bitter, I'll be enjoying the Rockies game tonight.

I didn't reference any "study" just statistics that are commonly available.

Here (http://www.orangemane.com/BB/showpost.php?p=1749648&postcount=4522), you reference your Baseball Prospectus "statistics." What you are actually referencing is statistical studies - the most recent I've seen were composed by Baseball Prospectus' writer Nate Silver - that indicate time off for players (his study referenced both time off between playoff series and time off for a player due to injury) doesn't necessarily affect their performance when they return:

Ah yes, the old "rust" myth. Go read some Baseball Prospectus, and you will find that this old wives' tale is about as valid as "chemistry" and "clutch hitting" (not at all). Statistics have proven that time off doesn't affect players performances negatively. If he's 100% healthy (which he claims to be) then he is a better player than anyone else the Rockies have in CF. Period.

Of course, you only speak of it in vague generalities - that seems to sort of be your MO.

As for an "ad-hominem parting shot" - well, calling you a religious bigot is hardly ad hominem. I would have no idea about your religious feelings if you hadn't made the "Mormons are worthless" comment. There's a discussion of baseball taking place; and when you disagree with something said, you make a disparaging comment about.....a person's faith? Do you understand what ad hominem means?

I recently checked out the Arizona Fall League and here are some of the Rockies prospects who are participating:

Dexter Fowler

Fowler was only limited to 245 at-bats with Single-A Modesto this year due to a broken bone in his hand. The Rockies sent him to the AFL to make up for lost time. He's fun to watch in center field, he covers a lot of ground and glides to the ball effortlessly. He posted a .397 on-base percentage this year, but he's yet to develop his power with only two round-trippers and 14 extra base hits in 245 at-bats. At 6-foot-4, 173 pounds, I do believe power will come in time with a little more muscle and experience. 30-30 upside.

Corey Wimberly

A slap hitting, switch-hitter who batted .268/.323/.348 for Double-Tulsa and stole 36 bases in 45 tries. Eric Young Jr., who is three years younger, has surpassed him as the organization's best second base prospect.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v437/BroncoLB56/ArizonaFallLeague162.jpg

Darren Clarke

Big boy at 6-foot-8 whose fastball hits the high-90s. The only thing holding him back are injuries. He threw two shutout innings for the big league Rockies this year.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v437/BroncoLB56/ArizonaFallLeague183.jpg

Jarrett Grube

Went 7-3 with a 2.53 earned run average in 52 relief appearances for Double-A Tulsa. Threw 67.2 innings, fanned 61 batters and walked 21.

Anyway, we're getting geared up to head down to Coors. Rockies are going to finish off the D'Bags tonight, with or without an offense.

To the bottom left of the post you want to rep., there ius a little "cloud" thingee. Put your pointer on that and click. A little box pops up. :notworthy

Edit: Actually, those are scales, aren't they? I just see them as clouds because I give a lot of negative reps to boob.....

That's completely ridiculous. My son is just starting to get into sports. He's 9, and has school (fortunately, Wednesday is his last day). So far, out of six games, two were during the day (I actually took him out for one of them - priorities, and all of that :) ), and two ended so late, there was no way he could stay awake. There's no way to avoid two LCS games in one day in baseball, but they should at least try and accommodate fans with these start times. The nine-year-olds will be MLB's, most important customer base in fifteen years. Writing them off now is pretty short-sighted.

I keep hearing about TBS' ratings being so bad for this series. Well, when a game goes 4-5 hours, and it doesn't start until 9 or 10 PM in the most densely-populated portion of the country - well, it's not hard to figure that one out.

On an Injuns' Board, I read several rather arrogant poopheads or teh Flathead Tribe describe their team as being the best since the 1909 Sagamore Sycamores - or sombody. Those guys were a bit slow, but they were dolid as Oaks. Seems the current Injun's pitchers and BP are "objectily judged" to be among the most elite of the elite, and they are "great and humble" to boot. They see their teams as prohibitive favorites to win it all since they say they are the "Team of Destiny." I didn't know that Cleveland and Destiny could be legally used in the same sentence! Besides Injuns have lost nearly every skirmish they have joined in, particularly when the opposition had repeating rifles.

Maybe they mean Destiny, Ohio, which is near the Erie Canal, downstream from Bootscrape, Ohio. That's near the Boston Harbor, I believe, where a bunch of "Injuns" took it upon themselves to ruin a load of perfectly good tea by polluting the Harbor for the first time - but not the last. They were protesting the time honored traditions of the white man to tax and screw the middle and lower economic classes (read scumbags) in the thirteen disenfrancised and fratctious colonies. Happy to say that tradition now continues unabated. But we digress..........

The story is that Injuns are gonna be picketed again tonight for using the Injun Chief Wahoo as their mascot without paying a heavy Users' Fee to the Red Arrow Foundation of the Kahuna Tribe, Ohio Branch. Actually, the Sack and Fleece Tribe of Iowa also get some of the proceeds as well. Seems they are unable to get their casinos operating in Iowa becasue the Amish have the francise (they operate mobile OTB salons in those buggys, you know), so they, the S&F folks, need cash flow. Their pension plans and health care costs are skyrocketing.

In sum, I am not now a fan of the Injuns. I just really wanted to give the Sawx fans a hard time, and now I have seen the Light. I now have an official position of IDGAF. I am, however, steadfastly a Rockies' fan. I believe the pitifulness of the two AL teams will become more evident as their post season "play" (read ploy) continues to generate more apathy throughtout this great land of ours.

Yep. Absolutely killer! Everybody can talk about how lucky we are. In one sense, it's true. But our defense is what's gotten us here in this series. The D-Backs are in this game if they don't boot that one.

And even with them - if they said they saw this coming, they're liars. I predicted here somewhere in the spring that they'd win 85 games. I remember thinking wistfully about how great it would be if they could do that well - how it would be a great stepping stone for next year.

Everybody has been pressing this game since the 4th/5th. Evidenced by the 10 K's in like 4 innings.
But that was a nasty breaking ball to K Tulo.

I said the same the other night. That is just weird when they had the 1-9 road trip and had the lead in the 9th or extra innings 4 times and lost.
