He got lucky. Hurdle should have yanked him, leave a pitcher in there too long in a critical game and it's going to bite you in the ass. Guaranteed.

10-02-2007, 01:00 AM
Why would they even put that headcase in there?

Disappointing that Holiday blew this game the way he did in the 7th/8th. That was an easy fly ball that should have been caught. It sucks because he has had an amazing year.

Actually, its my fault. I try to root too hard for the rockies because they always let me know... tried not to follow their improbable run but I had to watch today... and it looks like they are going to come up short. Sorry GUYS!

GDSOBing Julio. SOB should not have been put in, and that is Hurdle working on a "Gut feeling" as he is so fond of saying. Fug that, man. Go with the winners. Shieat.

Holliday is not a hitter, he is a swinger. And I think that non-play by him was the absolute pits. So, the Rockies lose a hard fought game, because of Holliday and Julio. And Fogg giving up the GS was also the pits....

Some think having Holliday back would be a good thing. Maybe, but I would think about that for a while and I would think about what price.....

Dammmit.

Now the rant is over. The Rockies gave us a gareat season. I will think about it more tomorrow.....

I first thought the hand was the injury....I mean, jamming it into cleats and having fingers pushed back cannot feel very good at all.

He grazed the plate and Barrett dropped the ball....and that's that.

They may be right. But you know what? Mcclelland spread his arms. So they're wrong. And you know what else? The hit in the 7th was a home run, too. So, it all comes out in the wash.

I was reading the Baseball thread and you guys had all givin up and were cussing out the closer. How could anyone give up on that team with the way they have played the past 3 weeks?

First things first. Gorge Julio IS NOT and WILL NOT be the closer. The guy is a head case. Statistically its over when Trevor Hoffman comes in to pitch. But you are right the Rockies never give up or give in. What an amazing end.

I actually think that Holliday's hand jammed itself under the Barret's cleat and grazed the plate. It was hard to see from the third base line and the view was blocked from the home plate camera. McLellan had the perfect angle on the play.

He needs to be left off the 25-man roster. Seriously, even if he had been pitching well, he showed tonight that he doesn't have the intestinal fortitude to handle the bright lights of the playoffs. Of course this game would finish exactly like their season did: Play and kind of hang around in there then give up some chances late to put you really far down against near impossible odds. Then, when all hope is gone, they make it happen. How romantic. I guess my brother in law and Dad both went to bed after the homer in the top of the 13th. I'm glad I got to see it end. :)

Bronco Billy
10-02-2007, 01:45 AM
I don't think they lack heart. Didn't you see them on the field at the end of the Buffalo game? Yeah, they're 2-2. Yeah, they could be 0-4. Two teammates passing away in the past year has brought this team together IMO - even though their record doesn't support that. What they lack is execution inside the red zone on offense to score TDs, execution stopping the run, and their entire Special Ed Teams.

With hope, they tie everything together during the bye week (thank goodness it's early this year.)

That homer in the 7th bounced of the ladies wheel chair. So its a wash if Holliday didn't touch the base. I agree now after Tivo watching it about 5,798.98 times, he skimmed the base. Then his mouth proceeded to stop his body by digging into the dirt. That was not pretty.

Your wrong. He touched it. The two angles they have don't show it. On the angle down the baseline you can see his hand hitting Barret's shoe and driving toward the edge of the plate, then you lose it in the dust. On the side angle, you can see Holliday's hand drove Barrett's foot back across the plate but you can't see his hand because his body is blocking it. Put the two angles together and there's no way he didn't touch the plate.

My daughter came and got me up and I am glad she did. Saw Tulo's shot, Holiday's shot and Carrol's shot. Great they won. Absolutely great. And it was Holliday that got the winning run. How about that?

As I saw it, the Ump was blocked out of a perfect view of the whole play at the plate. He saw the catcher's foot get kicked back - which was in front of the plate - and the ball rolled out. He gave the runner the benefit of the doubt in that play. Now whether Holliday's pinkie touched the plate will probably be debated somewhere, ala the patsies of a couple of years ago, but who gives F?

Wednesday in Phillie? I'll be watching, hoping that Julio gets thrown out of the plane on the way, and that Hoilliday decides to become a hitter rather than a swinger, and that Fogg doesn't have to play another game during the Rockies' entire Playoff run.....

I will re-think my rant later.....

Congrats, Rockies, and all their fans everywhere......

I can't believe Matt Holliday slid head first into home plate with the season on the line. You never slide head first into home.

Holliday is the biggest guy out there, he should have planted Michael Barrett's ass 10 feet into the freaking dirt. Holliday is a football player, too, which makes his slide even more pathetic.

Sliding head first into second got Holliday injured earlier this year against the Dodgers.

Oh well, the run still counts.

Sure, Josh only went four innings. But the Rockies wouldn't have been playing tonight if it wasn't for Josh Fogg. I haven't heard yet, but I would assume the Rockies would throw Francis, Morales, Jimenez, Fogg, and then Francis.

So, Hogan - here's to you, and your Pirates contribution to this team: Josh Freakin' Fogg!

You Go Hogan!

No self respecting baseball player should ever have "Be Sweet" be the music he comes up to the plate to....no matter what.

Hey, Hogan has a deep fondness for Josh Fogg. He may not admit it, but he really does! So Hogan was, in a way, a part of this game tonight.

When he left the Burgh....he was one of the very worst pitchers I had ever seen. The Rox made him into a servicable starter who was even, at times, very good...that's no mean feat. I respect them for that...not everyone can turn garbage into something useful.

I TOLD you he had a deep fondness! Why, you could almost feel the fondness in every word that he typed! :D

Should be fun for fans in Philly to watch AI sit in the stands pulling for the Rocks...

"Yoooooou are our last hope"

"Look around you, can you construct a rudimentary lathe?"

 I love that f'n movie.

Oh and Sassy, its 14/15 for the Rox now ;D

Just saw Galaxy Quest again. Great flix. I just hope the Rocks can keep this going and the Angels vs Rockies for the WOrld Series. It will get sucky ratings but who cares. I have season tickets for the Angels and then I will be out in Denver for the Packers game and it just happens that the WS is going on at the same time. Nothing like MNF and WS colliding in one stadium. COngrats Rockies on a great last few weeks. And Holliday, TG he was the one to score the winning run after blowing it on defense in the 8th. BUT NEXT TIME SLIDE WITH YOUR FEET SO YOU CAN ACTUALLY SCORE! It still would have been tied with guy on 2nd two outs. Next guy probably hits a gapper. GO Rockies! Sincerely, BCJ the Anaheim Angels fan.

The sickest thing about this game was Ortiz, the former wimpy Angel, who won this thing. Scratch on his nail would pull him out of a start. But when you are running out of pitchers, Ortiz then is your man.

I am such an a-hole. After the 2-run shot by the Pads, I figured it was over. So I flipped over to Showtime to watch tonight's episode of Weeds. Right after that, I flipped back on the chance the game might still be going, and Hurdle is in a postgame interview wearing a wild card t-shirt.

I missed all the drama. Saw the highlights on ESPN this morning though. I can tell you, lesson learned. I will never turn a game off, in any sport, until the final buzzer has sounded.

The crowd was great as well. Fans on their feet almost every time there were 2 strikes on a SD batter. There was a bit of a lull in innings 10-11, but overall a knowledgeable, loud crowd.

This is a good baseball town - hopefully the "right" people are taking notice.

At the Raider game a couple of weeks back some guys went and stood by the concourse when the Fade was attempting their field goal. They wanted to make a quick exit if they made it. I'm pretty sure they left after the first kick (didn't realize there was a timeout) as we never saw them again.

Their bad.

Did the other two Rockies threads get combined? I can't find them.

I've bled Dodger Blue since I was six. The day the O'Malleys sold that team was one of the darkest days in my life. The Rockies became my second favorite team when they started up here in Denver. We went to some of the games at Mile High. Remember EY? I was at the game when Charlie Hayes got beaned on third base. After they dumped all my favorite people (Bichette, Vinny, Gallaraga, etc.) I lost interest.

I was at the game where Hayes got hit too - about 30 rows behind home plate. You could hear the bones shatter. Made me sick. I attended every game of the opening series at Mile Hi. It has been tough to sit through the last few years but I am glad i have hung in there. Go Rocks

I can't get that song out of my mind - the one they play during late-inning pitching changes and rallies.

It's like after the Broncos won the first one. On Channel 9 that night, they did highlights to The Outfield's Winning It All. To this day, I get chills when I hear that song. It'll come on, and I instantly get them.

THAT was the best sports day of my life. A year later was the second best. Tonight might well be the third. Just incredible!

The song "simply the Best" brings up images of the 97-98 Broncos to me! ^5
