So, man, its going to be crazy tomorrow if the Rocks hang on to this 6-1 lead.
Padres will need to lose, and if Mets and Phillies both win, craziness ensues.
I think if I understand it correctly, Mets and Phillies would play a playoff game Monday to determine the winner of the NL East. Then, the remaining 3 teams will play a round robin with the Rockies getting 2 home games, and I guess who ever wins the most games gets the NL Wild Card spot.

I understand it a bit differently... (but I could be wrong)

IMO, this would be the best scenario.

First of all, the Padres have to lose - and they would be tied for a WC berth if both the Phils/Mets win or the Rockies win. If Padres lose, and Rockies, Mets and Phils all win - there will be a game on Monday between the Mets and Phils to determine first in the East.

That would leave the other NL East team, the Padres and Rockies all tied. Team A (I believe from coin flips that will be Rockies)have the choice to skip game 1 or host it. If Team A skips, they have to go to the field of the winner of teams B & C. So in this case we should skip the first game as Peavey will be pitching for the Padres. Then we would have to play at the winner of the first WC playoff game - probably on Wednesday.

But if the Padres win tomorrow, this is all moot.

If one of the Mets or Phillies lose tomorrow, as well as the Padres - then we would have to play the Padres - and I believe we will get homefield advantage from a previous coin toss. But we will have to face Peavy. :(

I'm starting to confuse myself! :~ohyah!:

Well, its confusing, thats for sure. If Padres lose, Rockies win, Phillies win, Mets lose, Padres come to Denver for a game on Monday and Peavy will be pitching that game.

So I guess the best Colorado scenario would be the Padres losing (duh!), and Rockies, Mets, and Phillies all winning. That would give the Rockies a chance at avoiding Jake Peavy.

Can anyone remember a more action packed Saturday? The NL playoff race is crazy, then 5 top-10 college football teams lose, including the Buffs beating Oklahoma. And for those of us out there that care, the NHL season started today. Great, great day.

You gotta be shiiting me. THat started today?

And man its gonna be difficult tomorrow. Pads-Brewers starts an hour before the Rockies game, do you think they won't show the score to make sure our guys play hard the entire game and not dog it if the Pads win or something?

I don't think it's going to be shown outside of Denver, except if you have the MLB package. Does anyone know if that's true?

Melvin is already thinking ahead to the playoffs. He's resting Chris Young, Eric Byrnes and Chris Snyder on Sunday. He'll also start Yusmeiro Petit instead of Doug Davis, saving him for the postseason.

Don't know. Can't predict the future very well. Like herding cats, ya know?

Best case? Phillies, Mets and Pads all lose, Rockies win. That would be a clusterf*** but really, really exciting for baseball, I would think.

But, don't know. Have to wait until the globular broad perambulates to the stage and hums a bit, ya know? Since I don't pitch or bat for any of the teams, I can't really effect any of the outcomes, ya know?

Just don't know......

But I hope.

Drek
09-30-2007, 12:33 PM
So how many of you actuallu think that this scenereo will hapen?

Its got a good chance. The pitching matchups fall out really well.

FLA @ NYM, Willis v. Glavine
WSH @ PHI, Bergmann v. Moyer
AZ @ COL, Petit v. Jimenez (with half of AZ's better players benched)

And what it all really hinges on, SD @ MIL, Tomko v. Suppan.

Given lineups, home field, and pitcher matchups it'd seem like odds are in favor of the home teams winning throughout. Now thats probably not going to happen, any combination of a Padres loss and two of the other three winning and we got at least one play in game to look forward to.

Jori

Good luck Rox fans. Today will be incredibly nerve racking for us. I'm not sure how you will jockey the Broncos and Rockies playing virtually at the same time. Luckily for me, the Phils start at 1:35 EST and the Broncos start at 4:15 EST. I'm a bit nervous to say the least.

Here is to a Mets loss, a Pads loss, a Phils win and a Rox win. Best of luck friends!

Fuentes had to do his Dramatics, and Corpas was so tight, I thought he was squeaking when he walked! Darn near lost it. Hurdle hangs on to guys too long sometimes, it seems to me. Frankly, I thought the Rockies won in spite of Hurdle....

I don't have a problem with Fogg. He is not the best possible, but I think Morales would be the only alternative, really. Saves Francis for Wednesday if they get that far?

Way to go Rockies! Now that's entertainment.....

It'll be Fogg for maybe five, then Herges. Some experience there..... Other issue is going to be getting to Peavy somewhat early. Took the Rockies too long to get to Webb, and they need to beat Peavey with several runs early....

I don't mind going with Fogg. The guy has been a bulldog for us the last two years. He's not all that talented, but he's almost impossible to fluster, and he just gets outs.

Plus, he'll get the hook early if he shows any signs of trouble.

Anything can happen, but I have a good feeling about this. We really have the feel of a team of destiny right now.

It's going to be intense. Fortunately, I work from home, and my office is literally a wall away from my home theater. So, I'll work during the day like a crazy man, so that I can get everything wrapped up by 5:30. Then I'll wander about twenty feet to my motorized recliner to watch a dream baseball game in 100-inches of pure viewing pleasure! :)

I'll defend myself a little on that one. I and a handful of other Rockies fans were posting through most of the year on the Rockies-specific thread I had started two years ago. About the middle of August, I asked TJ to kill it, because it was bad, bad luck. Everytime someone would post on it, something bad would happen. Anyway, once he closed it, a few of us started posting more over here. (And lo and behold, that thread gets closed, the Rockies start winning. I KNEW it was cursed!)

As for my fandom, there's nothing in need of a defense. I've stayed loyal to them every year since 1992. ("But," you say, "that couldn't be true! They didn't even start playing until 1993." Eau contraire! I followed their minor league clubs the year before the major league club started!) I've cursed ownership, and followed players that did very little to hide their disdain for having to be here. I and a lot of Rockies fans here and elsewhere deserve this. We haven't suffered as long as some, but we've still suffered.

In defense of us "frontrunners," our defense gets wrapped up in 1 word...Monfort.

Personally, since '01 I vowed never to go to another game until I was convinced that they(ownership) were committed to winning a title, and I vowed that the next game I watched on TV would be a playoff game. I held out till last Tuesday.

Really have enjoyed the last week of baseball, and I will continue to root on the players. But if ownership does not do what they need to do to keep the core unit together...the boycott is back on.

So sorry if me and others are being "frontrunners." I just want an ownership that is committed to putting the best possible product on the field as possible.

With this miraculous run, the players have built up a level of good will with the fans...and management should get credit for that...now the offseason will determine how much that good will will carry into the next season.

I didn't mean you Dom, I have seen your sig and it has a Rockie logo on it. So I know you follow the team through good and bad. The ones I am talking about know who they are and they just started posting a week ago when things all of a sudden started to look good for the Rockies. I don't like that, and frankly and leaves a bad mark on real rockies fans. Never be ashamed of rooting for the team you like, hell I root for one of the worst hockey franchises in the NHL. That being said, should the Rockies win tommorow, it will be SWEET for you Rockies diehards, going up against the best pitcher in the NL. Stage doesn't get any bigger. I am not rooting for anyone tommorow since you are both divisional rivals, but if you guys win it tommorow I will be happy for people like yourself.

Look, I fully understand your position. I know all about crappy ownership. I've lived through several years of crappy ownership in the NHL and with the Dodgers with Newscorp. Doesn't mean I stop following them through the TV and internet. I went to a couple Kings and Dodger games but maybe not as many as I would have had they had a clue on how to run the franchise then. Now it figures that I am here in Denver and they both finally get their **** together. Anyway I guess my point is that even though you have crappy ownership, it shouldn't prevent you from keeping track of the team completely.

Now it figures that I am here in Denver and they both finally get their **** together. Anyway I guess my point is that even though you have crappy ownership, it shouldn't prevent you from keeping track of the team completely.

You know, when they first came here, every game they played I made sure to either watch or listen to. I remember sneaking the walkman in my ear during school or work trying to make sure i knew what happened on every pitch. I went to every game i could.

But when I realized the scam that was the Monforts. When I saw that their payroll was towards the bottom once they got rid of Hampton, i got it. I figured out they the ownership did not give 2 SHlTS about winning games or competing for a title. And its fine, I agree that it is a business and they are out to make money. But put a damn product out on the field! I am not going to waste my time and follow and cheer on and give money to an organization that doesnt give a damn about the product they put out there.

And its like Ive said...you keep em together, maybe add a piece here or there, and convince me that you as an ownership WANT to compete for a title, and you will win me back. If you don't, you will return as a boil on my ass and I will do everything in my power to avoid you.

I completely support the Broncos through thick and thin, so long as Bowlen, or an owner like Bowlen owns them. And I have shown my loyalty and support by being a season tix owner and going to all the games (except this year...personal issues prevent me from going).

I support the Buffs, Nugs and Avs by watching all their games, following them, and going to as many games as I can. Because I know that Kroenke wants to win. And I absolutely love the moves that Bohn made since becoming Cu's AD. Hell, Im even planning to go to a few CU BBall games, cuz I know that Bzdelick will turn them around.

But as for the Rockies, I feel like I didn't leave them. I feel like they left me. And if they really want me back, then they have to earn me back by ponying up and showing their committment to winning this offseason.

It's pretty comical how people can get all high and mighty about how people follow sports teams for crying out loud. It's entertainment, not religion. Yeah I know people don't treat it that way a lot, but hell I'd give the people who don't treat it as religion credit for keeping a proper perspective on things. I will follow the Broncos, Avs and Nuggets through thick and thin and I consider that no great virtue. The Rockies, even though they may very well be the current most well rounded team in Denver and the team with the best chance to win a championship, will always be a distant 4th to me cause I'm not a baseball fan, period. And if someone is going to think I'm committing some great sin because I'm willing to let myself be entertained by watching playoff games and rooting for the Rockies to do well when I'm not interested enough to follow an entire 162 game season, all I can do is laugh in your general direction.

Paladin
10-01-2007, 02:22 PM
Boy, those Sox players looked stupid. Hope the Rockies don't need no stupid dance like that to feel good.....

To 24: I am one that had badgered the Dodgers this year, and I am glad I did. For far too long the Rockies had been the butt of jokes from the Dodger fans. I remember the first time the Dodgers played at Mile High. The players taunted the new Rockies unmercifully, and there was a small brawl because of it. That's where my charges of arrogance comes from. Now that the Rockies took them 7 straight, I think the smugness has been knocked out of that organization and players towards the Rockies.

I think the "magic" of this season was that none of the left coast teams dominated the Rockies consistently. There were periods where one had the upper hand on the other, but by and large, the teams were about even in talent and skills. So, my hazing goes back a fair piece of time. Nothing personal, but I just don't like the other West teams.

As far as the Monforts go, I really don't have much hope for them, and, as I said earlier, I think the Rockies won DESPITE Hurdle and the Monforts. If the Monforts pony up, and keep the team together, then I think we can expect many more years of solid, competitive baseball.

Lastly, I think the humidor made a hella difference. Coors Field plays a lot better than the old days, and that makes for good baseball. The East Coast will never give the Rockies their due until they win the big one. They blame the field, the altitude, and everything else they can to avoid admitting that the Yankees and/or Mets got plunked legitimately.

Through it all, I don't much care who thinks I am or am not a "fair weather fan." My sons and I have seen a lot of games there. Sometimes I go to see the Rockies, sometimes I go to see the other team play. But I root for the Rockies. When Andy Van Syke played for Pitt, I'd go to as many of those games as I could because I like to watch the Pirates. I'm a Pirates' fan as well as a Rockies' fan. Clemente was the best player I ever saw play the game, and I still get chills thinking about when Maz hit that homer, and I like Adam LaRoache as a player and hitter....

I sincerely hope that the Rockies bring me that same kind of entertainment over the next bunch of years, which they will, providing God smacks the Monforts up side the head or they sell out......
