21. Broncos Aaron Ross CB 6-0 192 Texas
The tragic death of Darrent Williams gives the Broncos an urgent need at this position, but even if that weren’t the case, he has too much athletic ability and upside to let him pass. Ross was a gambling playmaker at Texas, but playing next to Champ Bailey could be a great learning experience.

From now until April, it's going to be "replace DW, replace DW." These scouting outfits know even less about the Broncos than I ever imagined. For years I've been listening to them say, "TE to replace Shannon." Now this. I wonder if any of these buttheads could even find Denver on a map.

Yeah, because Foxworth has proven so much as a starter and Paymah has been a nickleback extraordinaire.
C'mon, people, look at the position realistically. There are big questions marks there. Foxworth has only a handful of starts, and the only one that wasn't shaky was against Arizone. Paymah has barely played at all.

I'm sorry to say since Darrent was murdered, but Darrent hardly had a great season nor is it like having to find someone to replace a CB like Champ either. I'm sure they will draft a CB at some point in the draft for depth at least, but I find it ridiculous the thinking they just have to take a CB with the top pick to replace Darrent.
I wouldn't be upset if the Broncos made other moves to improve the DL like in free agency and then could take the best player at #21 and it was a CB on their board, but I just don't get this having to do it. If Darrent had a good year, ok, but I know I wasn't alone in my criticisms of Darrent's play last year and that doesn't change because of what happened to him.

I hear your point, but at the same time, poor CB play can be helped greatly with a D-Line that can get pressure on the QB and force him into bad throws. While we may need a CB, I think we benefit more from hopefully draft a stud for the D-Line who can generate pressure.

I agree with that general premise...the question is, "will any quality DL be available? will there be a CB available better than the top DL available?" We need playmakers...it doesn't matter what position they play. If that is a CB, so be it.

Aaron Ross is a play-maker. He was huge for the Horns in several games this past season. He is also a great punt returner. He sorta of reminds me of a better and faster Kelly Herndon. He likes to mix it up and is very scrappy.

Fair enough. We don't want to take a guy on the DL who is a second or third round talent in the first round just because we are starved for somebody on the line.
If the guy we take is legitimately the best talent on the board, so be it, but I'd rather us target a DLine guy above all else.

Arizona have not bad recievers... but I get your point.

And this mock has the Broncos taking Ross, a 2nd round CB talent, and leaving Carriker, Meachem, Spencer and Willis on the board? Right. Any one of those guys would have ten times more impact on the Broncos in their first season than Ross would. Could Ross even break into the lineup in his first year? Could he even beat out Foxworth or Paymah? If not, then it's a flushed pick. IMO, first rounder means, "Get on the field and play. Now!" IMO, any one of those guys could win a starting spot right out of camp, or at worst by week four. Could Ross? And they have AJ Davis right behind him. Did they even watch the Senior Bowl or the drills? That guy was getting toasted like an English Muffin and he's absolutely zero help against the run. He's a third rounder, at best. I see no reason why the Broncos won't bring in a CB in rounds three or four, but I'm sick of seeing these effin mocks puttin CB in the first round for the Broncos. It's just stupid.

So draft yet another corner, when we dont need one, in the first round. Foxworth will be fine, Paymah will surprise, our secondary problem is safety, not corner.

Ross was a thorpe winner and is a very good return man. He would push fox and paymah for the starting job. He's expected to run 4.3- 4.4 in the 40 at the combine.
I think we have more pressing needs but I would not be unhappy about this pick.

Im all for adding a CB but its certainly not our biggest need. DLine and RB first. Samuel would be a great FA pickup that would really open up what we could do with our draft picks. Of course Im a cap idiot so it may not even be possible.

Even though, in all probability, he would still be there when the Broncos pick in round two?

Boy, I agree with this:
IMO, first rounder means, "Get on the field and play. Now!"
but i would also extend it to second rounders too. enough with the frickn projects.

Whomever plays opposite Champ will lead the league in looks. So unless its Champ's clone, he's gonna get schooled. Fox and Paymah will do fine, IF we can pressure the QB. We need a DT and a DE - I'm excited to see Dumerville in his sophomore year.

Why is Denver's problem at Safety?
Fergusen, Lynch, Brandon and Cox are all returning. Denver is fine at safety next year. They can draft one in the 2 nd or 3rd round if they wish but there is no pressing need.

Sure he is the starter until they get someone better.

So, if I'm understanding the way people are looking at our team right now, Darrent Williams' loss was strictly emotional and we won't miss him one iota as a football player.
People act like a young starting player, suddenly being eliminated from the roster, doesn't weaken us at all.

Lynch and Ferguson are over 34, Ferguson and Brandon were put on IR because of leg injuries, at one point we had Foxworth starting at safety. Its a need simply because of the age concern. I would prefer drafting dline or a true SAM LB then draft yet another corner.

I never said that. But I don't think CB is our number one priority either, especially for a reach in the first round - which Ross would be. If Ross and Carriker were still on the board, I sure as hell hope the Broncos would take Carriker. IMO, his impact would be faster, and greater, than Ross's. There's plenty of CB depth in this draft anyway. And like I said before, if the Broncos really want to make a difference in the CB position, they should go after Asante. Structure a contract that includes more money based on the increase in next year's cap. CB became more of a need with the loss of DW, but the pass rush is still the biggest black hole on the team, IMO.
