You love this guy!
I think he looks very solid, could be a big time sleeper if he makes it to us at 3a. ;) I wouldn't mind having a sledge hammer back there.

Yeah, I want this guy on the team.^5
We all know our offense works much better with a guy who keeps the chains moving. That's really all we need for the offense to take it to the next level.

I'd take him!!!!!!! :P
I'd even take him in the 2nd round just to make damn sure I got him. I just wonder if he's a little too big. I wonder what he'd be like as a 230 lb RB? He came out of HS a 222 lb RB with 4.52 speed. I imagine he could get down to the 4.55 mark at 230. That would be a dream!

Yeah he weighed 239 and 6' 1 3/4" at the senior bowl I believe.
Good thing is that he can block, and he can catch the ball pretty well.
He is bigger then Brian Leonard as well BTW who only weighed 224.

Yep, and 240 lbs is pretty damn big. Right now most are saying that he's in the mid 4.6's as far as 40 times are concerned. That's about the same as Mike Bell. Get that weight down about 10lbs and work on burst. He can run a 5.3 if that first 10 is done in 1.1!!!

For people who have watched him what is his vision like? I personally think that is Tatums biggest downfall.

From what I've seen he looks like a poor mans Larry Johnson (but he can block better)
His vision is good, but not great. He is a jack of all trades IMO. He can do all things decently, but nothing really great.

Agree! Tatum would be a fantastic back. But his lack of vision is what keeps him from being the top back in this offense.

Sounds good to me.... now is there any chance he is there @ #3 :)

I'll take that anytime.

What about Brandon Jackson for all you Nebraska homers? He looks like a Rudi Johnson to me (but with Lundy type athleticism).

Maybe the first third rounder (washington's) but if we want we will probably have to reach in the second.
But IMO he is not worth a second rounder. This is a very week RB class, and I don't want us to reach when the depth at S and DE is incredible and both are positions that we need to address. Not to mention WR depth.

Completely agree! We need to focus on improving both lines and depending how the draft plays out we could land a steal at safety with any of our day one selections.

IMO we have a guy like him already in Mike Bell. But id love to take him for sure in the 3rd round.

He and Mike Bell are similar, but Hunt is bigger and IMO a better athlete.
Tony Hunt looked very good in the senior bowl... patient and effective but of course not the fleetest a' foot.
The south team couldn't blitz in that game. In the NFL I think Hunt is going to have a hard time being a feature back unless he picks up his foot speed... teams are going to be running games at him all day with the LB's trying to get TFL.
Still, in the 3rd round it would be hard to argue with the pick.

Unless he bombs at the combine, I don't think he makes it out of the 2nd round.
Like BM13, I wouldn't be disappointed if we took him in the second.

I like Hunt, but I would be surprise if Denver draft him. He doesn't seem to fit the profile of the guys that usually like coming out of college (Think Chris Perry out Michigan) . Plus I think he would be better suited for offense that runs a lot dives. Personnley I think he would be great for Gibbs and the skins or similar team.

That vid is made up of older highlights...he certainly looks lighter than he is now.

he seems like a boom or bust type to me...hits the hole nicely, but i wonder how he is when there is no hole, can he push the pile?
any nebraska guys out there, what do you think of his vision? personally i think vision is the #1 characteristic of a good RB in our system....tatum proved it doesnt matter how fast you are, its all about vision

I'd rather the Broncos got a quicker back than Hunt. Vision is important for a RB, that's for sure. Not to mention patience and waiting for blocks, which is also Tatum's problem.

Mike Bell only weighs like 215 I thought? MB has a great burst and great vision as well as being deceptively shifty. He may not juke anyone to their butts but he will make them get off balance and go past them.

Supposedly that is the RB that shanny liked best in that draft.

I'm not a big fan of Hunt. He may run in the 4.6 range, but he's not quick with his feet anywhere. Guys like TD may run a 4.6, but still be great because he had quick feet and burst. I don't see that from Hunt. He also deosn't seem to use his size as an asset to finish runs and punish tacklers.
There are a number of backs I like better in the 3-6 round range.

He punishes tacklers just fine. I don't think you've seen too much of him. When you see him pick up the blitz and clear is QB you'll see!

I think Bobby Turner could turn this guy into an animal, but I agree this guy needs to fall to us before he would be a "steal." If we get DT/DE taken care of in the first and second, this guy would be really exciting in the third.
I think the video clearly shows he has vision. He uses his cutback lane very well, breaks all arm tackles, and lowers his shoulders while covering the ball through the line. If he drops a few pounds and works on some agility, this guy could be special in the right place. He would be a great third round steal. Looks like we could trust him to block for Cutler also.
BTW - did you notice what number he is wearing??? That bodes well for his supporters.
Wouldn't touch him until our first 3rd. He runs with pretty good power but not what I'd expect from a 240 pounder. He also has NO burst. He's a downhill runner with no extra gear to kick into in the open field, is slow out of jukes, cuts, etc.. He's got tree trunk legs and is a decisive runner, but I don't know if he can offer any big play ability that you need from an every down back in the NFL.
Brian Leonard offers more as an every down back, better speed, much better explosiveness, and more versitile game. Despite being about 15 pounds lighter he runs with as much power.
I like what I've seen of Jackson's running style, very shifty with excellent acceleration out of a move, runs with better power than most guys his size and shows pretty good hands. I question if he'd hold up in pass protection at the NFL level though and I hate those narrow legs.
I don't think Hunt will be a top 5 back in this class and will therefore probably slide to the early 3rd. At that point I'd be ok with taking him as a Mike/Hunt :wiggle: power combo with Tatum as a speedy backup, much like we did in '05, is our best way to improve for the '07 season. He doesn't have the upside of a Leonard or Jackson though and we'll all be clamoring for a new franchise back a few years down the road again.

Hunt looks a lot like Anthony Thomas in his running styles, which only got him one good year in the pros.

Can't remember where I read it ,but Shanahan mentioned after the season that he would be looking for a power back. Hunt definitely fits that description.

Personally I'm not a big fan. A lot of his runs were a result of good blocking. Frankly, evey time I watched him he reminded me of Ron Dayne at Wisconsin. He's kind of fat, too. I did like how he did at the Senior Bowl, but there's something suspicious about him. Maybe it's because I'm not a big fan of power backs.

Being a Penn State fan and going to their games. I love this guy but he fumbles too much for my liking. He is pretty put together when you see him up close he is hardly what I would call fat. The one thing that I really like about him is you can see in the 4th quarter how he wears a defense down.
I would love to see him in Denver.

If he can get down to 230 and run a 4.5 soemthing (less then 4.55 though) by the combine I'd take him in the second.

I think Kolby Smith and Nate Ilaoa are better fits in the 230+ "power" category. Both show better feet in the hole and significantly more burst. Also, both can be had at least a round after Hunt. Smith in the 4-5th and Ilaoa in the 5-6th.

I really like Ilaoa, not only does he show the burst and top gear that Hunt lacks, he also has great hands for a guy his size. I think he could be an unholy terror as our every down back if he dropped 10-15 pounds.

I looked up Ilaoa's 2006 stats, and they're absurd. 131 carries for 990 yards; that's 7.5 yards per. And he had 880 yards receiving, averaging 12+ per reception. It's almost a certainty that he'll be there in the 4th, but I would have no issue if we used a 3rd on him.
