Was on for an hour, but not a ton of Bronco talk. A large chunk of it was talking about how much free time the players have in Hawaii this week, and what goes on when they're not practicing.

Bronco stuff

Running game
-they are looking to upgrade
-He is not sure which of the Bells the team likes best
-talking about Rhodes being an FA is how they got on the subject of the Broncos running game, does not think he will be high on the Broncos list of guys they are looking to bring in

If you had to pick one big-time FA to go after, who would it be?
-Lance Briggs
-the team has to get bigger upfront
-wore down in the 2nd half of games and the 2nd half of the season overall
-would probably be at the expense of Gold
-thinks it's irrelevant, thinks Briggs will be tagged

Shanahan thinks the team is close because Indy won the SB
-they beat Baltimore and won @New England
-they were up 24-7 in the 3rd against San Diego, and 14-6 at the half against the Colts
-toughest jump to make is from a very good team to an elite team
-thinks they are probably 3 players away right now

Is this 2006? Doesn´t Shanahan say that every year?

As strange as it may sound, I think Denver might actually be in better position going into 2007 then they were 2006 (even coming off a AFCC berth).

were always on the verge with Shannaha as coach, but the players gotta improve and take us to the next level.

They can't get rid of Jake and Gold in the same offseason and have any kind of cap room to make any FA signings.

They need to get some DT's. They only had three last year and that is undoubtedly what led to them wearing down. Plus Myers may not be back. They need a four man rotation at the least. So at least one rookie, and at least one FA (Myers or somebody else).

At least they talked about SOME football. All the sports shows here lately have gone to crap. These fools will sit there and talk about themselves for an hour straight, laughing and making jokes at each other. WHO THE F_CK cares man. Talk sports or get of the MF air already. Damn some of these hosts are wankers. They must not realize they don't play professionaly any longer (Ron Wolfley). Get a clue.

It's that old Broncos scenario once again. Normally they take the route you're referring to. Cut the players in question post June, clear some cap this year then end up back in the same cap hell next year when there's $10m plus hitting the cap for players who no longer wear Orange and Blue.

I'd like to see the front office take a different route this year because I think expecting this team to go all the way with Cutler at the helm in his 2nd season is far too much. Trade both players for what you can get. Swallow the cap hits and make a major push in the market next year and continue to do something this team was useless at between 2002-2004, draft well.

I wasn't referring to that route, but I agree with what you said.

I'd just assume to take the bullet this year and get it over with.

The defense definitely needs better conditioning. They collapsed in the 2nd half towards the end of the year. I'd hate to make they playoffs and not have a fresh defense.

Well part of that rests on the coaching, ie shanny, for not having more then 3 DT's.

Sure they can. The Broncos can focus on drafting, and signing quality, reasonable FA's. The team is in transition. Yes the Shanny must win now mantra is what everyone will reference to, but this team is nowhere near 3 players to win the SB. If memory serves me correctly, the Broncos didn't make the playoffs.

I'd like to see the team bite the bullet, sign quality, reasonable FA's for the future, and be fully ready to go in 2008 for a SB.

Not with Shanny's mantra of win now, which is exactly what will happen.

He won't bite the bullet. I wish we would though as I agree that we are more then 3 players away. Lynch and especially Rod may not be playing in 08, and Lepsis as well as Wilson are on their last legs.

Anyone know the full details on Gold's contract? I know its 5 years, $25M with an '05 base of 540K, cap number of 1.69M, and a signing bonus of 5.75M, that his base last year was $670K and that its going to $2.3M in '07, but without cap numbers for those years.

The early reports were of a 5 year, $25M deal with a $8M signing bonus, but several sources (USA Today and Fox Sports) have him listed as getting a $5.75M signing bonus last year, making me assume the remaining $2.25M is roster bonuses. If thats the case we paid $1.3M of $5.75M in '05 and probably some portion of it in '06. If it was another $1.3M payment we'd be looking at a cap hit of $3.15M as opposed to his '07 base of $2.3M. In that scenario cutting him isn't entirely out of the question.

I don't think we will and I'd personally rather make him and DJ swap spots, play Gold another year and then cut him then when he'd be freeing cap room instead of costing it.

Not sure bro but I think he got a 2-tiered signing bonus. $2.25m in 06 and $5.75m in 2005. Means that if we cut him/trade him we're looking at a $5-$6m cap hit instead of a $4m cap hit.
