Not of a huge concern given we have a great pass catching tight end in scheffler and a blocker in mustard (not to mention an all around solid one in alexander), but thought I would share given the large volume of chatter on this guy.

Never really expected to get him this offseason anyways

didnt want him anyway.

Franchise tag on Graham tho, that is a hefty price for an average TE....

link btw?

Means New England will use some cap to resign Samuel. Good DB's are hard to come by.

You think that a franchise tag doesn't count against the cap? Doesn't really matter, they have allready let too many players go and drafted poorly that the will slip back to mediocrity IMHO.

Tagging Graham is idiotic considering what VD is getting, and Gonzo.

If they had any sense, they would of kept Deion Branch.

they got a freakin first for him...branch has YET to reach 1k yards in a season, they got a steal by trading him cuz he was wantin WAAY more than he was worth

You should really think before you type. No **** a franchise tag counts against the cap, but considering how much it would cost new england to tag samuels, to tag the TE would be considerably cheaper.

True, but there's no guarantee he'll resign. Just because the Pats have cap room does not mean they'll use it. They are notoriously cheap.

Stats don't mean much. Deion is an incredibly talented reciever. He's one of the new breed of smaller, shiftier, yet very tough recievers. Besides, when's the last 1,000 yard reciever Brady has had? Has he had one? I dont think so. He spreads the ball everywhere.

That means Samuel's gone. From everything I've heard, he doesn't like it there and wants to leave and I have little doubt that other teams will be more than willing to meet and exceed whatever the penny-pinching Patriots end up scraping him off the table.

This is pretty stupid by NE. They've got Ben Watson and drafted two TEs in last years draft. They are hogging a lot of resources for that one position, which is particularly odd with Samuel also a FA at a thinner position.

They didn't last year for Branch.

Maybe it had to do with Branch being over-rated? Just because he was ok with them doesn't mean they should over pay for him. Lots of team should look into doing something like that.

Who really cares. The Pats will find some chump, if Samuel leaves, and that guy will probably have a career year next year. Stupid Pats always seem to have their players over achieve.

Not going to Happen. If they franchise anyone it will be Samuel's. They actually talked about this on the show Shadow and I were talking about. They will most likely franchise Samuel but for one year only (they won't use it to sign him long term) Graham is rumored to want to go to a place where he is more part of the offense like when he was at CU. Maybe the Broncos will be a good fit ?

And the fact that he's a damn good TE. Right now, he's better than anyone we have on the roster (And before any Scheffler fanboys get their panties twisted, I'm talking about right now, not potential)

Herc posted that he was told by a friend of his that the Broncos would be Grahamīs #1 choice if he hit the open market. Graham grew up in Denver and his family is still there, I think, so I can see why heīd want to come back home.

Franchising Samuel would be the smart move.

And would free a roster spot by making Alexander and Jackson expendable for only a small bump in the cap.

Are you sure it'd only be a small bump? don't get me wrong, I'd love to bring Graham in, but he'll probably sign for around $5 million per, whereas Jackson and Alexander probably don't combine for more than $2-2.5 million.

So what? Whatever deal Graham signs with the Broncos will be CHEAPER on the cap than Alexander/Jackon's cap charge this year.

Yes they both count around $2million. We cut both of them, save $2million worth of space and use it for Graham's cap charge this year.

Not only do we save a roster spot because Graham can block and catch better than both these chumps, but we get a locker room leader with great intanglibles and solve our TE problems for a couple of years with Schef/Graham.

I mean you DO realize that Alexander is a FA after 2007. We'll have to sign another TE then anyway. Why not do it now with one of best blocking TEs out there and actualy make our two TE set a threat rather than a joke?

I've had enough of this team carrying 5/6 TEs every season and all of them sucking.

The window for NFL teams to designate franchise or transitional players opened yesterday, and closes on Feb. 22. But there was no news on which player the Patriots might tag. CB Asante Samuel and TE Daniel Graham are most likely to be designated as the team’s franchise player. However, Samuel and his agent Alonzo Shavers, are on the record as saying that the fourth-year corner would not be happy if he were to be franchised. As for Graham, there are rumblings that he wants out of New England, but neither he nor his agent, Jack Mills, have said anything publicly.
