Who is Lavrov you ask? He is Russia's Foreign Minister- despite this story, I'm still skeptical.

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Upon return from Washington Russian FM Sergey Lavrov briefed on the basic topics discussed during the meeting with President George Bush. “The Bush administration assured me that the U.S. is not planning a war against Iran,” the Russian Foreign Minister said, reports the BBC Russian branch.

“The U.S. assured us that the presence of additional forces and equipment in the Persian Gulf region is aimed at stabilization,” said Lavrov.

In his words, Moscow and Washington assume that talks with Iran should be held via the UN Security Council. Moscow rates U.S. sanctions against Iran as illegitimate and is also going to press for their cancellation. “We will press for cancellation of these sanction as in the case with “Sukhoy”, Sergey Lavrov underscored.

This confirms what I had thought.

Initially I was very surprised that China and Russia supported the UN Sec Council resolution (back at Xmas) that imposed sanctions on Iran. It didn't fit because neither country wanted sanctions.

But it's clear now this was a case of appeasement. In fact it's comparable to Chamberlain at Munich -- after (or was it before?) Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia.

No doubt Bush bullied and badgered China and Russia in private talks before the vote -- in essence, threatening war aganst Iran if they would not support the UN sanctions.

Obviously, from this source, Russia concluded the best chance to avert war was to go along. China probably did the same.

That's understandable, but even so, it was a mistake. Now Bush has a veneer of legitimacy. However thin -- it's all he needs. It doesn't matter that the UN vote is illegal -- since Iran is not in violation of the NPT. The IAEA has been all over the country -- and has found no trace of a bomb program. They are very good at sniffing out cheating. Of course, absence of evidence is not proof. Even so, you have conclude that Iran is basically telling the truth about its intentions. Does it matter? No, given the average American has a mind like taffy and can be manipulated at the drop of a hat.

What is a Bush promise worth? About as much as one of Hitler's promises in 1938.

I think we must conclude we no longer have a government. No, we have a criminal syndicate.

The ominous signs are everywhere. Israel has egged on Fatah and Hamas -- and now for the first time there is the prospect of a real civil war in palestine. And what has Bush done to make things better? NADA.

The stupid lame Democraps don't get it. They are going to be suckered into the next act. And since Congress has lamely handed over to Bush its Constitutional authority to make war - the next move is in Bush's court.

How can we change this equation? If anyone has any bright ideas -- I'd like to hear them. MHG

This confirms what I had thought.

I don't want to embarass you, but the only legitimate thought you ever had died of lonliness years ago.
