MIAMI - Eventually, it will all be clear, but just when you think it's safe to talk about the Denver Broncos assistant coaches, the picture gets a little murky.
Broncos coach Mike Shanahan has made no public announcements about the reshuffling of his offensive staff, but word around the league for weeks has been that several coaches will have new jobs.

The only departure on the offensive side came when tight ends coach Tim Brewster left to be coach at the University of Minnesota.

However, plenty of other moves are expected to be made public at some point as the team approaches the scouting combine later this month.

Several league sources said in recent weeks they were told Broncos assistant head coach Mike Heimerdinger was expected to oversee receivers as well in the upcoming season while Jeremy Bates was expected to coach quarterbacks.

However, it appears now Heimerdinger could oversee the team's quarterbacks while Bates would handle the receivers.

Either Pat McPherson or Steve Watson, the Broncos' former quarterbacks coach and receivers coach, still is expected to coach tight ends while the other would be an offensive assistant.

Shanahan has formally announced the hiring of the team's new defensive coaches and special teams coach Scott O'Brien.

they can hire, re-hire, re-organize the staff all they want, but until they get some better players in here it won't matter much.

That is very true.

It is also common for teams to shift the duties of asst. coaches so that they gain broader experience. Some of these moves get blown out of proportion.

Well said. The driver is important, but eventually, you have to have the horsepower.

No, but I hear he is developing a new Bronco discussion board :)

I still think Denver's problems lie with the Coaching and Scheme, more on the defensive side than anything.

Agreed. Our defensive schemes and lack of adjustments were our achilles heel last season.
