Its great to know we got a guy who gets it this well. Although after hearing the stories of him and his bond with his Vanderbilt Offensive line it doesnt really suprise me

Answer: The Tri-State Hot Stove League's eighth annual Night of Memories is Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Vanderburgh 4H Center. The autograph session is from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and features seven signers: Don Mattingly, Bob Feller, Bobby Allison, Bobby Plump, Clint Barmes, Preston Mattingly and Bo Hart. The fees: $30 per item for Don Mattingly, Feller and Allison and $15 each for the others.

Hot Stove League vice-president Paul Gries said Robertson informed him this week that he will be unable to attend. Two other invitees, Bob Griese and Jay Cutler, had previous commitments.

Griese, who has attended most of the previous Nights, accepted an invitation to play in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am golf tournament on Feb. 8-11. Cutler, the Denver Broncos rookie quarterback, is taking his linemen on a vacation to Costa Rica. Gries said "there's a really good chance" that both Griese and Cutler will be at next year's Night. Admission to the autograph session is $20 per person. The ticket also is good for admission to the adults-only Night of Memories program, which starts at 6:30.

This just shows you what kind of bright future this kid has. Hopefully this will help earn him that protection we lacked this season. Either way though it shows the great leadership and great selfless charecter this guy has, especially for such a young guy.

Glad to see it. I'll admit that I was somewhat worried if this kid had the leadership skills that a top flight NFL QB has, but he's showing me that I have nothing to worry about.

I wouldn't be surprised if he came along. They've been hanging together since camp and I know they go out together a lot.

I hope he didn't invite Foster.

This kid is a knight in gleaming armor...I'm sure Scheff got a ride...he obiviously knows how to keep his back...I'm sure Gerorge was invited...

They can knock back some margarittas and enjoy the local fare..heh...and bond...This is much like bowling night that Shanahan does at the end of camp each year.

Kudos to Cutler, he's pretty damn big...his line is going to protect him like a crown jewel now. He can afford it...I'm sure the guy chipped in on other items...this bodes well bronco friends.

Excellncy.

Eh, I'm not ready to "crown his a$$" yet.

He's just another rookie to me who got through his first year ok.

I've got more respect for Erik Pears at the moment but I'm OL guy so I'm biased.

A lot of my praise for Cutler was boosted by the comparative stink of Plummer.

Jay's got to earn my respect damnit!

Just by the by ... in that video you can see Hamilton, Nalen and Carlisle moving in classic zone-block unison to sell the fake-left to Tatum ...

Only thing I'm waiting to hear now is that Cutler and all his receivers are practicing and getting their timing together during the offseason.

I still marvel at how amazing it is that we picked up Cutler, Javon, Kuper, Marshall and Scheffler - all on the same weekend ... they're all decade-long starters. Plus Eslinger, and then Mike Bell the day after. That could easily be SEVEN long-time starters on offense in three days....

Exactly!

Great teams build through the draft. Thats how a team builds a strong foundation for the long term. Teams that rely on overspending during free agency to build their team don't fare well in the long run. Good teams draft well and a high percentage of their draft picks remain starters several seasons later.

Shanny had a few poor drafts earlier but I am glad he got it right last season! If we have a similar draft on the defense this time around, we'll be set for many years!

It's just great to see Cutler has his priorities right. A little fishing, knocking back some cold ones, working a little on taking the snap from center. All good things. But, as some else said, I also look forward to reports of voluntary practicies with the QB, RB, and receivers working on timing and routes. Just head out to the yard and toss the old pigskin around boys.

While Foster is still strugging in the backfield and leaning over instead of having his feet set right under him.

Kuper and Eslinger haven't played a down yet, let's not get ahead of ourselves. But it still looks to be a fantastic draft even if those two don't pan out.

I actually go to this charity event every year. It is a pretty good time. Mattingly is one of the nicest guys you could imagine. Bob Griese is usually drunk and anything but a nice guy.

They drag in some pretty big names every year. Previous years have had Harmon Killebrew, Yogi Berra (he too was ass), Scott Rolen, Tommy John (very nice guy), George Foster, Johnny Lattner (53 Heisman from ND), Whitey Herzog, Mattingly supports it every year. Brad Wilkerson usually comes. Jamie Carroll and Clint Barmes who you guys probably know for being with the Rockies are both very good guys and show up every year.

You guys will probably take pleasure in the fact that this is the second time Brian Griese was slatted to be there and this will be the second time he has no showed. Last year he blamed it on the snow delaying his flight.

I don't think being impressed but Pears is an OL bias. He replaced an All-Pro level LT for 2/3rds of a season and no one bitched once about his play. Thats damn impressive. Jay's steady improvement at the end of the year was impressive but he was replacing Plummer who had been horrible and still went 2-3.

I think Jay getting back on the field and getting us to OT against the 49ers was big for the team as a whole though, moreso than a trip to Costa Rica. Any time your QB comes back after getting his bell rung to rally the troops builds team unity, its even better that he did it as a rookie in only his fifth start.

It really does take an Orange Mane-calibur fan to realize how important something like this is to the team. It all starts on the line. Receivers are going to make plays because that's how they get paid, and the same with running backs. But if your line doesn't respect you (Griese), do you really think they are going to give it that extra 10% every single snap? Sometimes that's the difference between a ball getting out clean and a sack, fumble, or interception.

He made the right move, but he still has to have the right personality to be able to communicate with them.

I expect good things from him next year, but i am hoping for great things.

Cutler's demeanor reminds me of Joe Sakic. Seemingly quiet, reserved, even-keel. Not the most firy guy you'll ever see, but someone you respect the hell out of and want to play for.

If Cutler turns out to be anywhere near the leader that Sakic is, he'll officially be worth his weight in gold.

Also worth mentioning that Pears was coming off a full season in NFLE so he probably wasn't at full strength (physically or mentally) when he took over. Given a full off-season to rest, train, and drill with the O-line and we could see substantial improvement next year.

Cutler is one of the most fiery QBs I saw last year. He showed some serious balls in the 49ers game talking **** to the D....of course he payed the price....but still a badass.
